Does anyone know around when does the trickle of acceptances increase? March or April? Sooooo shhhhlllowwww :yawn::yawn:

Yes, they send them out as fast as it takes lake Superior to evaporate.

Just found out that I got into UMass!!!!! I interviewed in mid November. Soooooooo excited! Good luck to everyone who is still waiting!

I interviewed mid November as well. Does that mean that I'm not going to get accepted early and will have to wait until March?

so I'm im guessing I have the campus to myself tomrrow? Anyone interviewing tomorrow???????😉

I interviewed during the first week of non-early decision interviews and other ppl who interviewed during the same slot were accepted a couple of weeks before I was accepted.

I don't know how many of the 120 slots are filled so far, but my guess is the umass adcom is going to be very picky with who they accept until ppl start to withdraw in the spring. Many of the current students I talked to on interview day were accepted later in the cycle after being waitlisted.

Hey I have an interview tomorrow and am also from Springfield! I'm so nervous but definitely excited at the same time. haha

I guess I have to leave earlier than I had planned to meet with the diversity office.

Yes. There was no follow-up letter in the mail, just a lot of attachments to the acceptance email.

Yep, I got the same envelope. It had all the attachments that were in the acceptance email.

Congrats on the new acceptances!

thanks moki!!! my stats are much lower for the school, so i was FLOORED when i got the email! it's definitely my top choice school!

Has anyone heard anything from UMass lately? I interviewed there in mid-November and was hoping to hear from them soon.

I interviewed in october, and not a peep yet. I think they might start rolling more acceptance in jan

If they are true to form, our next chance to hear is January 22nd. December was off the regular third Friday of the month pattern, so who really knows. . . ?

Is anyone else who interviewed relatively early (9/29 for me) tired of waiting? Presumably, we hear in about four months, no? Which means I will have been waiting a total of 7. Booooooo.

I interviewed even earlier than that, and yes, I am very tired of waiting. What choice do we have though? UMass could be a very attractive option for me, depending on what pans out with my other schools, but waiting half a year for any feedback whatsoever on our applications post-interview is a bit ridiculous.

Hi Guys!

I am totally new to posting and using SDN although i google it all the time, but I joined because I have an upcoming interview on the 12th and wanted to know if anyone else was interviewing that day. I'm a little nervous but super excited at the same time ... UMASS is my number one choice!

Best of luck to all that have interviewed and are waiting for results! :xf:

Ditto. I interviewed in September too, looks like we're in for the long haul. Does anyone know how receptive the adcom is to letters of intent? I'm trying to decide on an appropriate time to send one.

Good luck and welcome as a poster. 🙂

I figured it's about time to make my first post...

Just heard from UMass today via email! Accepted! I interviewed on 12/9.

Good luck to everyone else!

Congrats! What are the odds that you attend?

Does anyone know if UMass provides merit aid? If so, when would we hear about this?

Thanks folks!

Odds of attending? I'm definitely going to seriously consider it. UMass is one of my top choices.

As far as I remember, UMass does not give out institutional merit aid. I believe their aid is all need based.

they warned us of this when we interviewed. something about state funding... they can't over-accept like most other schools do.

I remember that, but I do wish they were a bit more transparent about the overall process. I would love to know where exactly I stand with the adcom.

My best guess is that once the 125 cap is filled on the rolling basis (by March 15th) the rest of us are waitlisted. This site http://www.eduers.com/Medical/Massachusetts/University_of_Massachusetts_Medical_School.html claims that when there were 100 spots in 2007, UMass accepted 177 people. If you scale that up for 125 spots, about 220 people will be accepted in total.

My hope is that some of those acceptances pre-March 15th are from early interviews that are reviewed again. I would really like to avoid the waitlist if possible. On that matter, does anyone know what the movement off of the waitlist is traditionally like?

SaturnGirl, could you perhaps shed some light for us?

In the meantime, happy waiting everyone! 🙂

May 15th?

May 15th?

The way I understand it, the AAMC requires all schools to offer as many acceptances as they have spots in the incoming class by March 15th.

May 15th is the date that applicants can no longer hold on to more that one acceptance.

Ahhh, I see. Didn't know that. I learn something new here on SDN every day!

Oooooh, is this true? If so, that answers TWO questions for me. Where did you read this?

By the way, FrenchFries PMed me and he(or she!) has Superstar stats so I am not expecting to hear anything soon!

From the AAMC website:

  1. By March 30 of the matriculation year, March 15 for MD-PhD programs, each school or program have issued a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and have reported those acceptance actions to the AAMC Section for Medical School Application Services.
I guess it's actually the 30th 🙂. Still, a LOONNGGGG wait. At least we have each other to commiserate!

Thanks folks!

That's too bad, I vaguely remember reading that someone last year got merit aid but I could be mistaken. Granted the acceptance letter made no mention of it whatsoever so I'll take your word for it.

The financial aid packet we received on interview day makes no mention of merit aid. Despite this fact, this place looks like a bargain compared to private medical schools. Do any of you know if Umass has a second look day?

Why is UMass so obnoxious...accept people already! Although, seeing someone got accepted today might mean that they are off of their crazy 1 Friday a month schedule...?

I will definitely try and post feedback as soon as I can! I really learned a lot from what other UMASS interviewees posted... and to Moki, thank you I will need all the luck I can get!

... If anyone is at the UMASS Med campus on the 12th I'll see you there! 😀
