According to your theory, today is the D-Day, let's wait and see what happen😀
I forgot to wish everyone else good luck... I hope everyone else gets the good news this week too!

A friend of mine said that he just got an acceptance email today, so maybe more are on the way.
So I couldn't take it anymore and I called the admissions office (I don't do well with "waiting patiently"). They said that my file was currently under final review so I probably wouldn't hear anything until January.
That sucks! I was told 4-6 weeks like everyone else and for sure by the end of December. Worst...Christmas...Ever.
Especially frustrating considering I moved my interview back two weeks because I was assured that I would still find out by Christmas.
Interview on Monday! Wish me luck, friends!
I will wish you luck, mostly because you have an MCS quote. One of many reasons I love MN.
God I hope they call me next week, 8 weeks already? sheesh...
anybody receive any other decision besides acceptance post interview?
Aka.. If it is a waitlist, don't stress too much, they had a ton of waitlist movement last year
True that. I have it on good authority that they went through pretty much the whole thing last year. I even know someone who was rejected, then called in September and asked if he still wanted a spot. I can't say it will be the same this cycle, but it's not a bad sign.
I don't know if I believe that about the rejection, I have a friend who interviewed on the very last interview date and was waitlisted. They told him he fell "10 spots short of acceptance" off the waitlist after multiple phone calls. Wouldn't they have offered that spot to all the waitlisters before randomly calling up someone who was flat-out rejected??
But yeah I asked on my interview day about waitlist movement and it is "quite brisk"
Does anyone know when the waitlist begins to move? Do we have to wait until May?
Got the waitlist letter in the mail today. :/

An acceptance email? I'm pretty sure the dean said he was calling us, at least at my interview...
No need to be skeptical... I know the guy. It is indeed true.
I hope he doesn't mind me saying that...
Does anyone have any more knowledge on waitlist movement from last year? I, too, find this hard to believe. I failed to uncover a thread for last year's application cycle.
Three years ago, the UofMN accepted too many applicants initially. They accepted somewhere in the range of 300 applicants directly after interviews. 183 accepted, which was 13 over the desired limit. Thus, the waitlist did not move at all this year.
Two years ago, the UofMN made an effort to prevent this from happening again by accepting a much lower number of applicants initially directly after interviews. They accepted 242 applicants and proceeded to take 43 from the waitlist.
At least up until two years ago, the retention rate for acceptances had been increasing. I don't know if they had ever accepted less than 300 applicants for the 165-170 spots in the class. That's why I'm curious how they could have exhausted the waitlist last year. I wonder if they gave out more than 285 acceptances.
Any insight?
I haven't talked to my friend (to whom this happened) a lot about this, but I know that it did, indeed happen. I don't believe it was a mistake rejection that was fixed later, and I don't think he asked why or how, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was, because he was most definitely qualified.
I sure hope that your numbers are accurate and still generally applicable to this application cycle though! Unfortunately, I don't have any additional insight (per your question), but if I discover anything significant I will let you know, haha.
Ditto. When they say they don't want more information... does it mean that they don't want new transcripts?
Ok seriously, are you sure he just didn't refer to his waitlist as a rejection, because I really just do not believe that they would call a rejected student up and offer him a spot unless someone pulled some MAJOR strings on his behalf.
I'm nearly certain. I'll talk to him soon and see if he actually wants me talking about him at all first, haha, then if he doesn't care I'll get his take on it (or as much as he is willing to allow me to share). I mean, it IS his life and all, and I don't want to make his life a spectacle, especially if it's none of my business. He's a good friend of mine, and I just want to respect him and his privacy, you know?
Needless to say, your surprise equals mine when he told me (I was in Seattle, haha).
Anyway... Guys (and gals), it's only been a day and a half and I already have the urge to call them and ask them if my application has gone through the final review... This is bad. Haha...
😍
Cool. Sorry, it just seems super-crazy that that would happen and I would be angry at the U if it did.
HA, be patient little grasshopper, I'm almost at 6 weeks and I am just going to wait until after the holidays....Good luck, though!
How long after we interview do we expect to hear? Really excited about this school.
Haven't been reading the thread at all, huh?🙄
They keep telling everyone 4-6 weeks, most are waiting 9-10+
...unless you have a 4.0/40, in which case it seems like they call you within a week.
Haha... Dr. White suggested that, for those of us who interviewed in mid-December, it should be 6-8 weeks, with the "official" timeline being 4-6 weeks (he said if we're really lucky and they get through a lot of final decisions, it would be 4-6, but he said not to get our hopes up).
What I would really like to know is how much the waiting list has moved in the past, and how much they expect it to be used this year... I know the numbers were approximately detailed before, but I'm curious how accurate they are.
