😀 Wow, just got an interview invite here today for 1/20. Was pretty shocked to see it in my inbox this late in the game. Couple questions for those paying attention: Am I interviewing for the wait list at this point? Anyone have any opinions on how much they like this school and why?

OOS (contigious), Complete around 10/10.

You aren't interviewing for the waitlist. MU is "rolling" but really they only admit a limited number each month. I mean, very few. They typically fill the class in late Feb or early March so everyone being interviewed is still in the game so to speak. From my (extremely, very limited) understanding, once you get an interview you stand about a 50/50 chance of being accepted. Congrats on making it this far, particularly being OOS.

I love the school and MU is my number one choice. I am from MU and have gotten to see lots of students go through MU SOM and just have a great feeling about the program overall. I can't explain it but I think MU and I would be a good fit for one another. Pingouin and Captain Fantastic in this thread are current students and will probably be willing to answer specific questions for you next week. (This is test week for MU-SOM and the med students are out to kill right now.) Good luck and PM me if you have any more questions I can try to answer for you.

Hey, I just interviewed here on Monday, and one of the staff presenting said that they still had like 70 seats open. So no need to worry 🙂

I got a phone call today offering me admission to the school. First acceptance and definitely a huge relief. Now I can actually be cheery this holiday season 😀

Hey does anyone have any idea as to how many MU accepts/year as opposed to how many actually matriculate (96)?

MU accepts 192. 96 matriculate. Of this 96 there are several pre-admittance spots already taken, though this will change somewhat in the future. Congrats to DocHnyBrwn on his acceptance as well!

That's not entirely accurate. They accept 96, and waitlist another 96. In the last few years, the waitlist has gone into the 50s and 60s before the class is filled by the start of school in August. A few years ago, they only went to the mid-20s. Although a getting a waitlist spot is certainly encouraging, it's not a guarantee of matriculation.

I phrased it the way I did because the waitlist at MU is ranked is a "conditional acceptance," i.e. if we get to your number you are in. Yes, my phrasing could have been improved but for the purposes of these boards the 96 accepted isn't correct either, as there are really only 80 or so available by the time AMCAS opens for submission in June.

FWIW, I think the year I was WL'd (Pingouin's year) the waitlist was in the late 60s and I think the current M1s got into the 50s or so. As pingouin said, it's not an uncommon occurrence, though IIRC there was a year not long ago that only went into the the twenties.

I'm half African half Hispanic, I don't think it gets any more diverse than that.

I was complete with my secondary REALLY late... like, November late. Got an invite last week for 1/25... I think the only reason I'm getting an interview is because I'm in-state, but hey, I'll take it 🙂

Anyone else interviewing that date?

Congratulations

Adding diversity to an area like Columbia is always a good thing

Forgot to ask you: Do you think you will be attending MU?

Just interviewed yesterday. Pretty relaxed. They said there's about 70 spots left. This year they are strongly expecting to accept 104 since they're planning to build another PBL lab. They said they have the money for it, it just has to get done, and there's no reason for it not to. In year's past it's been 96 accepted, 96 waitlisted. Dunno how the 104 will affect the waitlist.

I just got the e-mail today! ACCEPTED 😀

IS, 3.93, 31P, interview: 10/2/09

Haven't said much on here, but in case people are wondering if this month's committee meeting decisions have been made...

I just found out (13:42 CST) that I was accepted! I received two rapid-fire emails, one from the dean of admissions (Rachel Brown, MD) and one from the director of admissions (Allison Martin).

My stats: 3.6/3.6, 35Q, OOS (IL), non-trad. Interviewed 11/10.

I love Mizzou. This is the best Christmakwanzakah gift I could have gotten. Every interaction I've had on this campus has been a positive one, and every single person I've spoken with there I've sincerely enjoyed. The PBL curriculum is a perfect match (and hey, starting PBL skyrocketed their Step 1 scores -- well, that, and other confounding factors), I love the location (partner is from nearby St. Louis; Columbia's a cute town), and their students seem smart, well-adjusted, and likable. (What clinched it was checking out their student videos on YouTube. Look up their film/skit exhibition, "A Review" -- especially "Next: PBL Edition.")

Despite other acceptances, I'm 90% sure I'm attending here (barring another school offering me a full ride, or some other form of divine intervention).

Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear, and happy holidays!

Congrats to you as well, JP!

Congrats!

ETA - I'm still waiting on my email. With my luck, it'll be another weird, silent month (or hold or rejection) from my alma mater. 😡

Thanks for the congratulations!! I am soo excited! I love Mizzou (am an undergrad there now) and the new clinical sim lab is amazing 😍 I will probably end up here, but can't be sure until the spring. Congrats to everyone else already accepted!!

I interviewed 12/16. Got the status unchanged e-mail this Monday as well. Really looking forward to hear something soon because I'm trying to lock up an HSPS scholarship with the AF. Last year they ran out apparently. Anybody else going that route?

checking your e-mail like 3 times everyday, hoping to hear some news?

Anyone else care to contribute some tips or remember some questions that they were asked? I have an interview here on Wednesday and I'm starting to get nervous. Any additional help would be appreciated!

I know it's useless to say, but I do mean it: don't be nervous. While my interviewers asked the standard pointed questions, even the hard questions were posted in a friendly way. Other interviewees I spoke to that day reported the same thing (although, of course, who *isn't* going to say that on Interview Day)?

I had two open-file interviews, both with faculty, and got the "standard questions" ("why you, why medicine, why now"; "tell me about ____ in your application"). Thing is, both of my interviewers were un-standardly awesome. One of them asked me the old favorite, "what's the biggest problem facing medicine today?" and we ended up having a fantastic, maybe even *productive* back and forth about scientific illiteracy. Another interviewer asked me what I would have done, had I faced a moral dilemma he had to face once. It was a great experience.

The standard advice applies: re-read your primary and secondary applications. be thoughtful and real, and consider your answers before you respond. More than anywhere else I've interviewed, my interviewers really wanted to get to know me.

Best of luck tomorrow -- hope to see you in July!

Hey guys, I interviewed on 1/13. Any clues on the date that we are going to hear some news?

Reading last years thread it looks as if they sent out a round of acceptances on Sunday Janaury 25th, and then they put out all the acceptances/waitlist for everybody on February 28th.

Hopefully we'll hear back in the next week or so. However, if you get a "status unchanged" e-mail then I imagine late Feb/early March will be when you will know something.

AHHH That's getting so close! I interviewed back in November, so I figure I will hear with everyone else at the end of February! Can't wait!

I got in!! Found out today. Guess I'll be seeing you july after all!

That was fast! You must have good stats and killed your interview. Is Mizzou your first choice?

I had a good MCAT score but a blah gpa (though I went back to school to take extra upper-level bio classes and aced those). I felt like the interview went very well. Mizzou is tied with UK for first choice right now, although the instate tuition at Mizzou is very, very tempting.

Interviewed 1/19. Amazing! I was blown away by the quality of the simulation center, the curriculum is great, and the students seem to really work together and are very supportive. I really, really loved the interviewers. They're both people I'd love to sit down and chat with over coffee sometime haha
My 3rd interview and a very wonderful experience. 😀

Wow dude, you interviewed the same day I did. How did they let you know? Couldn't have been snail mail.

I got a phone call from the Director of Admissions, followed by emails from both her and the Associate Dean for Student Programs. I'll get an actual letter in the mail next week.

Anyone else get accepted after interviewing the 18/19/20th? Also, for those who interviewed those dates, when should we expect notice?

Anyone know if you can get IS tuition after a year if you're an OOS student? Thanks in advance!

Apparently you can, if you work during the summer between your first and second years. They mentioned that there are paid research opportunities which would fulfill this requirement.

Anybody have any ideas on when we'll here something for this month? Hopefully this week...?

I just called the admission office. The lady I talked to on the phone said they were hoping to have something out the first week of Feb.

I haven't heard anything back yet at all either; I interviewed the 19th. Amazing that they got back to you TheMan21 in just over a week!!! Congrats!

No, but I just got another "status unchanged" email. C'est la vie. The class will be filled in March so we only have one more of these things to live through. Good luck everyone.
