are ppl who interview in jan interviewing for the waitlist?
judging from the previous decisions on this thread, who isn't? 🙄

but really, no. I highly doubt anyone is interviewing for the waitlist because pitt has given out so few straight acceptances.

does the application status tab show ur status is under review? mine doesnt even say that and rather just says letters are received. where is the app status supposed to be?
has anyone that interviewed on 11/3 heard anything?

Zimbunaou, i think this must be a mistake on their part. You should definitely have a status, even if it just says under review. You should call, I think they have probably made a decision about you already, seems they're up to the 6th now. Or you could just wait for the letter...I'm pretty sure they send snail mail. That's a bummer, sorry!

Waitlist here as well, definitely expecting that. Interviewed 11/9. Anyone know how the waitlist here works and/or how many kids they accept from it?

Does anyone know when Pitt makes scholarship offers? Does that come with the acceptance packet or will that come later in the spring when they know what other schools you've gotten into?

It didn't come with my acceptance packet, but I know for some schools it does. I dunno if it is just me or this was the case for everyone who got in so far. But, i'm thinking it will probably be after they see where else you got in.

I got a snail mail following my waitlist status update, which said that this year they are giving out much fewer straight acceptances and putting many more people on the waitlist, with the intent of taking more people off the waitlist than they normally do... i don't know how many they normally accept off the waitlist, but it seems that a large number of their acceptances will be from there this year. also, I can't tell if the letter is actually true (in that this is a NEW thing this year) or if it's just to make us feel better lol

They started doing this last year. They overenrolled two years ago, so they're playing it really cautious with their acceptances so it doesn't happen again. They never explicitly stated so last year, though.

? Does AMCAS give them that information?

Acceptance!!!!! I am psyched!

Congrats!

? Does AMCAS give them that information?

After March 15th, each school that you are holding a spot (acceptance) at can see where else you are holding a spot. It is said that schools may look at this info to see what they need to do to win you over (more scholarship money).

Anyone's heart leap into their throat if they got the following e-mail today?

Dear ____:
Pittsburgh is a city with a rich multi-cultural past. A long standing Pittsburgh tradition during the holiday season is to visit the Nationality Rooms at the University of Pittsburgh. These 26 classrooms in our Cathedral of Learning display the rich ethnic heritage of the Pittsburgh area, each decorated in a style that exemplifies the country they represent. While these rooms are open all year, they are absolutely splendid when decorated in the country's traditional holiday décor.
If you are interested in visiting 26 countries in one day, you can take an on line tour of the Nationality Rooms at http://pittsburgh.about.com/gi/dyna...&bt=0&bts=1&zu=http://www.pitt.edu/~natrooms/
Additional information about how Pittsburgh celebrates the holiday season can be found at http://pittsburgh.about.com/cs/holidays/a/holiday_events.htm
On behalf of myself and the entire Admissions Staff, we wish you and your family a very joyful holiday season.

Ya don't have to convince me of Pittsburgh's greatness, you guys are the ones who put me on the waitlist to begin with! Yeesh, rub some more salt in the wound why don't ya! haha 🙂

Yeah, I was so disappointed by that email, especially since it says it's from admissions. I'm expecting a decision in the coming weeks, and my heart skipped a beat since I love Pitt so much!

I was like 😱

I wish they wouldn't have "admissions" send that! Give us waitlisters a break.

I bet they're reading this thread, loving it when we get all riled up 😛

Even knowing that it's usually 1.5-2 months after an interview for a decision, I read that subject line and took a few deep breaths before I opened it.

Brutal.

So, (aside from Darragh Street) where do UPitt medical students live?

Just wanted to post and jump on the "I am on the waitlist and UPitt almost made me pee my pants with that email" bandwagon. C'mon Pitt!!! lol

hah same here. Then I went and checked the status page even tho there was not really any chance my decision would have been posted 🙂

It's just such a formal title. What was wrong with 'Season's Greetings from Pittsburgh?'

To achieve this:

PittMed adcoms: :meanie:
Us: :scared:

LOL I totally agree. And I got that "seasons greetings" e-mail and the snail mail wait list letter at the same time!! This was probably strategically done to torture me.

lol did anyone even think about replying to that message?? I thought it was really nice. My other schools did not do anything like this.

Dear Pitt,

You owe me a new pair of underwear.

Sincerely,

I read the first couple of lines and then stopped. I did not consider it to be nice (or mean), but I just wasn't really in the mood to read anything from a school that will probably be rejecting me in a couple of months anyways.

when you're waitlisted and on the happy ol' "updates about how great Pitt is" mailing list, it's a bit like:

salt--------------->wound

No kidding. I mean, do I really want to read a bunch of cool things about a school that probably won't want me anyways? Nope. Plus, it is way more expensive at Pitt than my state school, so I don't know if I could rationalize going there anyways.

great interview day. sold the school well. seem to be really about the students. like the flexibility of the required scholarly pursuit.

The way I understood it, Pitt is one of those schools that waitlists the majority of interviewees, accepts very few during the 'rolling' period, and then accepts the majority of their class in spring, and then later as people withdraw.

Am I mistaken?

This is a new development in the last 2 cycles, but yes, that's what I understand

You are correct. Too bad that I interviewed in early September, and my excitement about Pitt has diminished significantly. That is probably because I have gotten excited about the schools that I have ALREADY been accepted to. Oh well, maybe it wasn't meant to be for me and Pitt.

That's why there's second look! Although I'm not sure Pitt has a formal second look...

Yeah, this is true. I wish Pitt was more intentional about who they wanted, so we don't have to make last-minute decisions if we ended up getting accepted in April.

So, (aside from Darragh Street) where do UPitt medical students live?

Besides the Pitt owned housing for medical students it is these neighborhoods for the most part.

Shadyside
Squirrel Hill
Oakland (Home of the university) (I personally would not choose this)

Some people also live in these other city neighborhoods-

Friendship
Bloomfield
South Side
Point Breeze
Highland Park
Lawrenceville

Hope that this helps!

Why wouldn't you choose Oakland? I would think that being closer to the university would be better?

I heard Shadyside and Squirrel Hill were pretty nice and not very expensive. If I matriculate, I would probably rather be close though (Darragh St., which is good from my experience with a student host)

Just to reiterate: write letters. If you have tiesto Pittsburgh mention them. Waitlist moves pretty far (hey they even let me in!).

Chin up!

Thanks Chuck's! I wrote my strong letter of interest a month ago and sent it in there! Hopefully it is well received 😀 Also, if we've already sent a letter of interest and have no major updates, should I be writing again next month to show maintained interest? Or should I just sit tight?

Does anyone know if there's a "typical" turn-around time post-interview for decisions? I know that they say 6-8 weeks at the interview info session...but is this really true? I'm three weeks post-interview as of today.
