i interviewed on 11/4 and just got waitlisted. guess they put up new decisions?

but really, no. I highly doubt anyone is interviewing for the waitlist because pitt has given out so few straight acceptances.

Zimbunaou, i think this must be a mistake on their part. You should definitely have a status, even if it just says under review. You should call, I think they have probably made a decision about you already, seems they're up to the 6th now. Or you could just wait for the letter...I'm pretty sure they send snail mail. That's a bummer, sorry!

Does anyone know when Pitt makes scholarship offers? Does that come with the acceptance packet or will that come later in the spring when they know what other schools you've gotten into?

It didn't come with my acceptance packet, but I know for some schools it does. I dunno if it is just me or this was the case for everyone who got in so far. But, i'm thinking it will probably be after they see where else you got in.

I got a snail mail following my waitlist status update, which said that this year they are giving out much fewer straight acceptances and putting many more people on the waitlist, with the intent of taking more people off the waitlist than they normally do... i don't know how many they normally accept off the waitlist, but it seems that a large number of their acceptances will be from there this year. also, I can't tell if the letter is actually true (in that this is a NEW thing this year) or if it's just to make us feel better lol

They started doing this last year. They overenrolled two years ago, so they're playing it really cautious with their acceptances so it doesn't happen again. They never explicitly stated so last year, though.

After March 15th, each school that you are holding a spot (acceptance) at can see where else you are holding a spot. It is said that schools may look at this info to see what they need to do to win you over (more scholarship money).

I read the first couple of lines and then stopped. I did not consider it to be nice (or mean), but I just wasn't really in the mood to read anything from a school that will probably be rejecting me in a couple of months anyways.

No kidding. I mean, do I really want to read a bunch of cool things about a school that probably won't want me anyways? Nope. Plus, it is way more expensive at Pitt than my state school, so I don't know if I could rationalize going there anyways.

The way I understood it, Pitt is one of those schools that waitlists the majority of interviewees, accepts very few during the 'rolling' period, and then accepts the majority of their class in spring, and then later as people withdraw.

This is a new development in the last 2 cycles, but yes, that's what I understand

You are correct. Too bad that I interviewed in early September, and my excitement about Pitt has diminished significantly. That is probably because I have gotten excited about the schools that I have ALREADY been accepted to. Oh well, maybe it wasn't meant to be for me and Pitt.

Yeah, this is true. I wish Pitt was more intentional about who they wanted, so we don't have to make last-minute decisions if we ended up getting accepted in April.

Besides the Pitt owned housing for medical students it is these neighborhoods for the most part.

Squirrel Hill
Oakland (Home of the university) (I personally would not choose this)

Some people also live in these other city neighborhoods-

Friendship
Bloomfield
South Side
Point Breeze
Highland Park
Lawrenceville

I heard Shadyside and Squirrel Hill were pretty nice and not very expensive. If I matriculate, I would probably rather be close though (Darragh St., which is good from my experience with a student host)

Thanks Chuck's! I wrote my strong letter of interest a month ago and sent it in there! Hopefully it is well received 😀 Also, if we've already sent a letter of interest and have no major updates, should I be writing again next month to show maintained interest? Or should I just sit tight?

Does anyone know if there's a "typical" turn-around time post-interview for decisions? I know that they say 6-8 weeks at the interview info session...but is this really true? I'm three weeks post-interview as of today.
