For a general overview of health care policy, I recommend the book, "Understanding Health Care Policy" by Bodenheimer. It provides a good overview of the subject. I do not have any recommendations for the current state and country-wide issues, other than the internet; that's where I am researching. Sorry I cannot be of greater help.

Thanks for the advice 🙂

I was unable to find that book at the SPL, but I've been doing extensive research on the internet. I've found a lot on national health care...not a ton on WA-specific issues, but I'm hoping that a review of malpractice and the death with dignity law will suffice. Other than that, just had my husband ask me questions from the interview feedback page to get an idea of what I'll need to know. Tomorrow is the big day for me - gah! So excited, yet so nervous.:scared:

Good luck to everyone else, as well! :luck:

Just accepted by email after getting turned down for TRUST. Feeling 100 feet tall, totally bulletproof, god,

what a beautiful feeling

wow that's exciting!

Anyone who's been under consideration for a while hear anything today?

Ive been under consideration for a few months... still no word ... if that makes you feel any better 🙂

haha surprisingly that does make me feel better lol

guess we might all have to wait for the final excom meetings...

Ditto that...anyone else feel like time is moving slower that it ever has in the past?

Been under consideration since 2/08 here.

Double Ditto, we must have interviewed during the same week.
Hey at least we will know this month 😳. Wish I didn't spend every other minute contemplating whether the news will be bad or good.

Man, I feel for all of you guys. I guess the only upside to being scraped from the bottom of the barrel for the second to last interview date is not having to wait long for a decision. Har, har, har... and now we transition to self-pity. 🙁

I wish I was as optimistic as you. From reading last year's thread, most people found out in the first week of April what their status was. I'm worried about getting put on a low rank in the alternate list and having to wait another 2-3 months to find out, the waiting period would be brutal. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one going through this, we'll all just have to hope for the best as it is out of our hands at this point (except for those who have yet to interview to whom I wish good luck).

I've also been waiting for a while. :scared: I interviewed back in November and have been under consideration since 12/18. It sounds like I have another month to wait, but yeah, I'm glad I'm not alone!

Good luck everyone. 😍

Still waiiiiiiitiiiiiiing.... interviewed 10/29 and been under consideration since. Seems like there's a good amount of ppl who are SU. God help us all. And remember....

EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON 😀

I'm hopping on the bandwagon here. Interviewed on 12/1, got the email shortly thereafter.

Interviewed late October, under consideration since mid-november. I am anxious. Very anxious.

yeah, interviewed 11/9 and been under consideration since later that week. It's been such a long time! And I second the fact that I almost don't want to be on the waitlist, cause it's just more waiting! ugh!

Well on a positive note, at least UW has a ranked alternate list. I am on the alt list for University of Cincinnati and their's is never ranked, and we don't hear anything about movement until May 15th.

Interviewed 2/18, rejected 2/23 🙁 First choice.
I wonder what went wrong, b/c it seemed like it had gone well.

Is there any other way to get feedback besides the focus group meetings?

Good luck to everyone else. I hope to join you the following year barring admission elsewhere.

Sorry to hear about your bad news Tritown. I dont know the details but I read on last years thread that you can request an exit interview with UW to determine how to strengthen your application.

My future is uncertain as well so I applied to DO programs last week, many of the top DO schools have a deadline of 4/01. I know that doesnt appeal to everyone but I like to encourage people to look into it as DO degrees are virtually identical to MD degrees.

This is my first cycle and MD is my first choice, and I applied late, and I still have a lot to learn. If I'm in the same situation next year, I will definitely give DO a shot.🙂

Im in the same boat, I took an August MCAT so all my applications were pretty late. I got 15 pre-interview rejections, one alternate list and one under consideration at UW. Im keeping hope alive though.

Interviewed at UW on 2/21, rejected 3/1. This is my 3rd rejection post-interview from UW. I am in-state (accounts for 90% of accepted students), majored in Physics and Biochem with 3.8 GPA, my MCAT is 34R. I called to get some information and the lady on the phone said she had never seen someone interview 3 times and not get in. She's worked there for 20 years. FML

I just wanted to post this here to hopefully help other people feel better about where their applications lie.

Good luck to everyone else!

CMasterB, I'm very sorry to hear that. UW is a hard school to figure out. A friend of mine was accepted to pretty much everywhere else he applied to, but is still under-consideration at UW. A few others I know where outright rejected, yet accepted other top tier schools. Where you accepted anywhere else?

Wow, that's harsh. I'm really sorry for you!!! In my opinion you deserve a medal for your perseverance. I just don't understand how they could not have taken you considering your stats. It's obvious that you have a strong preference for UW but did you apply elsewhere? With your MCAT and GPA (especially as a Physics and Biochem major) there should be plenty good schools out there who would love to have you.

Apparenlty UWSoM is all about keeping applicants informed every week, even if it's no change. I remember when I was doing the secondary -- which I procrastinated until days before submission deadline -- "Incomplete Application" notice emails abound. Until just recently, it was the FAFSA reminders. Ha.

I haven't been accepted anywhere else but I do have an interview at Wake Forest in March. Due to my work being short-staffed because of a layoff I couldn't get time off until Wake's last interview date, March 19th .... not a good sign but I'll take any chance I can get.

Application Status at each school:

Boston University - Denied
Creighton - Waiting
George Washington - Denied
Georgetown - Denied
New York Medical College - Waiting
Rush - Waiting
Tulane - Denied
University of Rochester - Denied
University of Washington - Denied
Wake Forest - Interview invite

At this point in the application season it is most likely Wake Forest or bust so hopefully they have a seat reserved and waiting for me! Thanks for the encouraging words, they are much appreciated.

Did any of the Idaho applicants who interviewed this week hear anything interesting?!

Nothing here. I was sure hoping to hear something today but I am starting to think that maybe next week will be the week.

Anyone know if the MT excom will meet on Friday or Monday?

Anybody who got interviewed on the 25th of Feb. already had an email update? Thanks.🙂🙂 I interviewed in Seattle, in-state.

CMasterB, I wish you the best of luck. It's not necessarily a bad thing to be interviewed on the 19th. I'm sure you'll wow them and get the spot you desire.

I interviewed 3/2, got the email today... still under consideration. Seems like a lot of folks are in the same boat.

Hi Ronin. Are you an Idaho applicant, an OOR or in-state applicant?

I am wondering if the Idaho apps and in-state apps are being evaluated all at the same time during Excom meetings.

I am pretty sure all the Idaho decisions went out today.

As for me - alternate list

For those of you who have been accepted, how did you rank your choice for first year sites? Did anyone only select Seattle? It's seems like a gamble to only put one choice because then it could be a toss up between Spokane and Pullman.

I can second that the Idaho decisions were released 3/8. I'm also on the alternate list. Anyone have any idea if the Idaho specific wait list ever moves? I'm not too optimisitc...🙁

Did anyone this cycle relocate to WA and obtain WA residency just before applying?

I noticed that for MD admissions, residency can be achieved in 6 months.

I am considering a permanent move to WA.. I realize my fresh residency will be obvious to adcoms, but my intentions are to live and practice in WA.

Any thoughts?

I have lived in 3 states and traveled to almost all of them at some point in my life, but I love living in Washington it is hands down my favorite. If you can get past the rain and overcast skies, it is a wonderful place to live.

UW is the only allopathic medical school in WA so moving here to obtain residency may be somewhat limiting if you are coming from a state with multiple medical schools. That said, only about 6% of UW students come from out of region, so it would definitely be favorable to have in state residence.

Keep in mind that there are tons of residency programs in Washington, and the residency program you attend is a better predictor of where you will practice than the medical school you attend. With that in mind if you get accepted in your home state but not at UW you will likely still have opportunities to come to Washington when you graduate.

If it were me, I would be afraid that I would move to WA and then end up going to a medical school in another state and have to move again. I am not a fan of moving.

I am counting down the days until the final EXCOM meeting. I feel like I am a kid again waiting for Christmas, Ill either get something awesome or something utterly disappointing.

Haha, I think this sums up how a lot of us feel!! 🙂

I have good news for you, CMasterB. I interviewed at Wake recently and had an amazing experience. While they do start offering spots during the fall, they told us they intentionally leave enough spots open in order to be able to offer acceptances to good applicants they interview late in the cycle, emphasizing that interviewing later does not reduce your chances of being accepted. They also do not reject interviewees. You are either accepted or waitlisted. That means they only interview people they are truly interested in since a large portion of the interviewees matriculate and a large portion of class is taken from the waitlist (~50% for both give or take).

I am telling you this because I've struggled against UW for the past two years. Despite good numbers, great experience, and a friendly personality, they are not willing to even place me on the waitlist. You're not alone in your frustration. Best of luck and enjoy yourself at Wake Forest!

Did you mean this for WA specifically or for all states? Can you post a link to that page? Thanks! That's an interesting point.
