Do they typically accept students first and then notify you of a scholarship afterwards? Or are there instances where they accept you WITH scholarship? just out of curiosity

So I could use some advice... I sent a letter of intent to Vandy post-interview and ended up getting waitlisted....

Should I still send an update letter after the fall semester is over? My overall gpa will be almost exactly the same, but by sGPA will probably improve because i think I'll get an A in biochem. Also, I'm going to work at a volunteer fire department next semester, and have submitted a paper to a conference (although no word on whether it's been accepted yet).

Are these things worth mentioning to them in late december if I've already sent a letter of intent telling them why I love their school so much? They are real updates to my file, but is this overkill?

The scholarship was full tuition, a named scholarship that they give to 4-6 students each year. As it was explained to me, it's merit based, which includes past performance and future potential, both broadly considered. I believe that there are other scholarships as well, but I have no idea how much/how many.

I called the admissions office and I should be hearing back within a week (two weeks max).

I interviewed 10/22. Hope that helps ppl

Congrats on the invite! I just scheduled an interview 3 days ago for Jan 12. That was the earliest available..there are lots more in Jan

They typically say that it takes 6-8 weeks to hear back after your interview. I bet you'll hear back from this week. If you don't .. I would call them to see the status of your application.

I actually interviewed on 11/5 and will hit the 6 week mark this coming week. I guess I shouldn't expect a call back since it seems like they are back logged at the admissions office right now o.o

According to this post, the admissions office said people from as late as 10/22 would hear within a week, two weeks max. That was on 12/1. So if they keep their word, this Tuesday should be the day?

The wait sucks, and knowing how often they call makes me wish I never found SDN, haha. At this point I'm almost fine with getting waitlisted, just so I know what their decision is haha (not really, I'd be crushed, Vandy = <3). But it's now been 4 weeks since they made any calls, whereas the previous rounds were always two weeks apart. I figured Thanksgiving break would set them back a week, but it appears to be longer than that. The last day to report a decision in this thread is 10/6 I think, so it's been over 9 weeks for some people...

I called back again because I didn't hear back. And someone else on the phone told me I should expect to hear back mid-January..

So.. different people telling me different stuff.. I don't know..

No, I haven't written mine yet. This procrastination thing follows me even when school is over.

I'm going to write one to Baylor first, I feel I have more of a shot there since I'm not already waitlisted.

Is it just me, or does Vandy's waitlist seem extra hopeless and brutal compared to other schools?

This happened to my cousin last year who eventually didn't go, maybe they reviewed his app twice, I don't know. But don't lose hope, they look at WL'ers every go-around.

I interview there comng Jan..Im pretty sure nterviewing this late is a disadvantage thoughhh

Actually, I was browsing their website adn it looks like they send out 250 acceptances and about 105 ppl end up being enrolled..now they do interview like 900 - 1000 odd ppl..so then there is a 25% chance of being accepted post interview ..! So WL's dont lose hopeee

Thanks! And yep, Dr. Zic called me at around 6:30 (EST) on a Friday. Lol I had no idea who on earth would be calling then with a 615 area code, so I let it go to voice mail. Good thing, too, bc I was out with a buddy on his birthday. I don't think answering a med school acceptance call in a bar would be the best idea.
