🙁 I wish I could go.

I guess you guys will just have to try to have a good time without me. I'm sure it'll be tough, but I have faith in ya'll.

You will be missed, though I don't think you'd even tell me that you are you, so maybe I wouldn't notice. And you misspelled y'all. 😛

woops, how embarrassing 😳

This just goes to show that maybe I wouldn't really fit in down in the south anyway 😛

So is it safe to say the initial round of acceptances are all out? Will us WLs now have to wait until mid-May to hear anything (potentially)? Thanks.

Hey guys,

When does waitlist movement begin again? And typically how much many students are taken off the waitlist?

Thanks!

the waitlist was technically moving the whole time

BUT

I'd say the majority of movement (if there is any) would be after financial aid is awarded (when people start dropping) or May 15th (when people start dropping)

Vanderbilt over-accepts, so it may be the case that the class trims down to size and there is no need to pull from the WL. I hope that's not the case, but I'm planning as if it was.

crap, i wish i had something to report to dean zic. i've been doing nothing but working the same old crap. sent a worthless letter of intent a few weeks ago, but i don't expect it to help.

i'm hoping maybe 30-40 people decide that vanderbilt is not the place for them and drop out. unlikely though.

you should probably hope maybe around 50-60 people... second look at 158 people alone..

have all the scholarships already been given out? if someone with a scholarship withdraws, how long does it take for it to be re-awarded?

thanks!

Yes, they have all been given out, and I don't know the answer to the second question, but I'd imagine they'd do it pretty quickly.

Are they ever going to give us an official waitlist notification or is their 'you're on hold' letter the only correspondence we'll get?

aww ok haha...anyone with a scholarship offer plan on withdrawing? 😀 haha :xf:

Hey guys I withdrew today. I am rooting for you waitlistees, Vandy is great

Does anyone know whether if financial aid comes via email or snail mail? Either way, it's suppose to be sent out today no?

has anyone heard from financial aid yet? my mom decided this was the perfect week for her to go on a cruise. my mail would obviously go home and that is 4 hours from where I go to school. i asked my grandma to go check my mail at home to see if anything had come, but don't want her to go everyday if there's no reason. i still can't believe my mom decided this was the perfect week to leave the country! haha. good luck as everyone makes final decisions in the next few weeks! 🙂

Yeah, I got my financial aid package in the mail yesterday in California. I'd assume that if you had your stuff in on time, yours would be at home too.

You could call them and see if they've sent it if you want to be sure. Their office seems pretty nice.

how does vandy's aid work? is it all loan? or is there any need-based aid (instead of loan)? any data showing how many people get need-based aid?

like a lot of other schools, it's a mixture of grant money and loan money (with how precisely it breaks down being heavily dependent on your level of need)

and i have no idea what the breakdown is on how many get grants

Sorry, I'm oblivious as to when "on time" is... I an international student so I couldn't apply for the federal loan so I didn't apply through need access until late March (after second look)... is that late?

So now that Nashville is in a state of emergency, any of you thinking of turning down an acceptance?

i think EVERYONE should withdraw because of the flooding.....and let those on the WL decide if they want to live in the aftermath of such a disaster.

lol

I have heard from 2 sources, one of them being my advisor (I'm a VU undergrad) that Vanderbilt definitely will be taking people off of the waitlist this year. Here's to hoping...

is this related to the flood? (honest question)

....because i honestly wouldn't be surprised if people decided to withdraw from Vandy and go elsewhere because of what happened.

how badly is/was Vandy affected by the flood? I saw images/vids of Nashville on the news but they didn't show Vandy

Children's Hospital was flooded! But that's about all I know

Actually I heard about that before the flood. To answer your question, the Vanderbilt area was not badly affected, most of the damage occurred downtown near the Cumberland and farther out by the Harpeth river. Surrounding rural areas also got it pretty bad. I hope these people get the relief they need

before the flood? really. wow. any ideas why they will have WL movement? IIRC, their WL rarely moves more than a couple people at best.

and thanks for the info. i was rather curious.

So about the flood:

it was a big fat mess. It's true that the Vandy area wasn't nearly as badly affected as a lot of the rest of Nashville and the area around it, but there definitely was flooding in the Children's Hospital, some hospital paging systems went down, we had a water shortage, and one of our parking garages was basically under water. But yeah, it's all fixed. Thankfully most of us who live around here were ok, but there were a couple of kids in the med school who live farther out and they were really badly affected (one of my classmates lost most of his possessions, his car, etc- we all rallied and we helped him put stuff back together as well as we could). Anyway, for the area this was a HUGE deal, despite the lack of national attention. Lots of people were displaced (I myself had to host a couple of friends who couldnt get home the night of the flood). They moved the first years' finals and some of the second years' presentations and tests and stuff because a lot of us just couldn't get to campus.

But it shouldn't affect you guys in any way, except that I think it brought us closer together as a class and as a community. It's always nice to know we have each other's back.

From what I have heard talking with a 2nd year med student here at Vandy, WL movement is typically ~ 5 people max per year...and the number of individuals accepted at Second-Look this year was typical of most years (give or take a few) so I would expect the same amount of movement....anywhere between 1-5

Good luck tomorrow (and onwards) for those waiting to hear off the waitlist..hopefully things work out for some of us!

when does the school officially stop accepting students off the waitlist?
