I just recently interviewed at WFU. When we first got there in the morning a very nice Dean came out to talk to us. Anybody remember her name/official title at the medical school? I think I recall her being a cardiologist. Thanks!

It could have been Dean Nelson. I was lucky enough to have a very nice Cardiologist interview me a few years ago, and only later did I find out that she was the Dean. Good luck!

i bet it was her too. if you're talking about the super nice blond lady who just got made dean of admissions this summer, it's dr. wells.

Anyone know when the acceptance/rejection/waitlist letters go out. Should be soon right?

At my recent interview they said that the committee meets December 2nd, and we would hear within the week after that

Yeah I thought she said she was Dean of Admissions. I thought I would write her a thank you letter as well. Figured it couldn't hurt.

I was complete around September 1st, but have not gotten an interview invite.

I have an interview at UNC (OOS) 12-18 would the "I'm in the area" phone call do any good?

My grandparents live in Winston-Salem and it would make their day for me to stop by.

Stats 3.7/370

Definitely wouldn't hurt to try so I'd say go for it, the people there were very nice to me when I interviewed so you're chances are probably pretty good. Also good luck at UNC, got accepted a few weeks ago, and I'm currently an undergrad there so suffice it to say I'm a little partial to the Tarheels.

just called the office of admissions to check apps status. My application has been reviewed but no decision has been made as of you, or so the lady told me. Seems its a rejection here.

That's exactly what the lady said to me... and a week and a half later I got an invite - don't lose hope! 🙂

Anyone else interviewing this upcoming Monday (11/21)???

I've got an early flight out of Greensboro on Monday (5:30), so if anyone wants to share a cab with me to save some $$ please PM me

hi guys,

accepted to wake, looking forward to talking with any of you guys considering on attending. hit me upp

Just got the email that I'm waitlisted.

Sorry to hear that. Just out of curiosity, approximately when did you interview? I'm just wondering about how long it takes them to get back to interviewees... thanks

I just called the school to check on my application and was told that "my file is complete and has been reviewed" and if invited for an interview they would let me know by email...what does this mean? am I in the wrong "pool"?

not sure... I've called twice so far

The first time she was really friendly and said I was "top of the interview pool" and made it sound like I was definitely getting an interview... I was super stoke and anxiously watched my inbox for the invite... about a month or so later when I still hadn't heard anything, I called again. The lady who answered that time was not as nice and she just told me that if I was getting an interview, I would get an email. So THEN i e-mailed them with an update and a reminder of just how interested I am in attending Wake Forest, I got a response saying thanks for the update.

ARRGGGG!!!! I had heard that Wake Forest is big on applicants showing interest, but other then driving up there to kiss their butts in person, I'm not sure what else I can do!!!!

just got accepted today! i wasn't suppose to find out until dec. 9 so this = awesomeness. interviewed beginning of november

I interviewed November 13th and the wait is killing me. I really liked the school and I thought my interviews went well (even the stress test) but I guess time will tell.

Is their website any use for checking status?

Yep! I got an email, but my online status also changed. Good luck!

Hi again amt 🙂 Actually, I think the only way you can find out which "pool" you are in is to call. I called about mine when I got that status a long time ago and I guess I got lucky because when I asked about these different "interview pools", she told me I was in the "2nd interview pool" and that they were "not taking applicants from it at this time, but you should check back after the 1st of the year". It sounds like if the person doesn't want to tell you you may have to call back on a different day or a different time to catch someone else. However, even from the "2nd pool", I got an invite from them just a little bit ago!!!!! So don't give up hope whatever they tell you.

Stress test?? Can you elaborate? My interview is coming up soon and I keep hearing vague things about Wake's interviews being a bit rushed and stressful.

Thanks for the suggestion Kira! I am going to try and give them a call later today and ask about the pool...hopefully the same lady doesn't answer! congrats on getting an interview!!

Don't worry about it. The interview style is different than most schools - 3 interviews with faculty members lasting 20 mins each, and supposedly one of them is supposed to "test" you. It's really not that bad though. At mine, he asked a few tough questions related to my personal statement, but I just stayed calm and quickly thought through my answers and it was fine. The rest of the "stress" interview was relaxed and I thought the faculty member was actually very nice. The other 2 interviews were a breeze. Good luck and enjoy your interview, it's a fun day and Wake Forest is a great school!

Oh, that doesn't sound so terrible. Thanks for the info zeagle!

Btw, 20 min is pretty short--are they usually familiar with your file? It seems like if they hadn't read it very well it'd be so hard to fit everything in...

They are familiar with your personal statement, secondary, and I think activities. They just don't have access to your numbers. All 3 of my interviewers had highlighted/written notes on my personal statement, so they definitely did their homework beforehand. And I know 20 mins does seem really really short, but I honestly felt like I was able to answer all of their questions and convey a good sense of my motivations for going to Wake, becoming a doctor, etc. I think they do a good job of really stretching those 20 mins and delving into who you are, more so I would say than at other schools where I had an hour long interview. And everyone there is super friendly so it really keeps you relaxed!

My application was complete August 3rd...still haven't heard a thing, but I guess I'll see

stress test? that's odd- i didn't have one. all 3 of my interviewers were super nice and relaxed.

Lucky you. One of mine was definitely a stress test. Mean, interrupted me, questioned everything I said, told me my opinions were wrong, and just downright rude.

That guy said I don't value art because I would be interested in learning about the psychology and neurology of music

  That's worse than telling me I'm not diverse because I like LSU.

lol if the interviewer was a jerk and I had your stats I would have just stood up and told the interviewer HE was rejected😀

And besides LSU is the best school anyways. Although Les Miles needs to be fired...

Capitol One Bowl vs Penn St??? *Sigh*

So back to WF (although UNC is headed to the stupid Charlotte bowl again ugh, and have to face LSU to start next season) have they sent out letters of acceptance yet this month?

Anything pressing I should know for my interview day, other than that I'm likely to get grilled by one of my interviewers? How was the tour-- worthy of something besides semi-comfortable heels?

Just fyi, at my interview, none of the interviewers were "mean", so you might get lucky. And the tour was pretty far-ranging, but I think this depends on who you have as a tour guide. No walking outside, but the medical center is huge. I'm not a girl, so not sure what "semi-comfortable heels" really means, but I think you should be fine.

None of mine were mean either, so I think that's luck of the draw. I really enjoyed my tour (even in my heels), but I think it depends on how much you ask about and what year your tour guide is. The MS1 & 2s don't really know the medical center much better than you do, so they can't go very in-depth on that subject. Definitely ask about the roof playground though.

I could've sworn it was Dec 18th. Plus, I am pretty sure they meet every other Friday, and the 18th is Fri.

I called a couple days ago and the lady that answered said that the committee meets on the 16th, with letters going out around the 18th or so.

I'm not applying this cycle, but WFU is one of my top schools and I figure I can ask this here --

Where, exactly, do WFU medical students (and grad students) live? Do they congregate near WFUBMC, or are they spread out throughout Winston-Salem?

From talking to students on the interview day, it seemed like they live all over the place.. there is low cost housing very near the medical complex, but students also live in nicer housing elsewhere. It sounded like the cost of living is pretty low.. between 5 and 600 a month for the average place.

As far as interviewers go, all three of mine were very nice!! I didn't feel put on the spot at all, and had a pretty cool talk with one about shared outdoor interests.

Really liked the school 🙂 Didn't at all get the vibe that students weren't happy - everyone I spoke to seemed elated to be there.

Has anyone seen, or know where we can access, last year's match list?

I officially withdrew from the waitlist here. I ain't sittin' around and waiting. Good luck to everyone!

Upon calling to check the status of my app, I was told that it has been reviewed and waiting to see any update on it whether I get interview or not. Upon further questioning about the pool I was in, I was told that its "waitlist" at the moment. I guess its a pre-interview rejection here since I am not in any "interview pools."

At my interview, they definitely said the committee was meeting on the 16th (I assume so they can go home for the holidays). They said decisions will be sent within a week at the latest, and I believe she said they accept around 16-20 students per committee meeting and the rest are waitlisted.

Here's hoping for some good news from my top choice.
