Sorry it took so long to respond. I had a big pulmonary exam last Friday and am working in a family practice clinic all week. Let me answer a few of the questions that have come up:
To jackson1 - I wish I could help with your waitlist situation, but keep in mind that the fact that you were pre-screened before interview is a good thing. I know they tell you at your interviews but a BIG percentage of the class (I think about 50%) ends up being from the waitlist! What other school gives you such good odds?!
I love the school, period. The vast majority of the instruction is excellent. Most of the students are of excellent caliber and a pleasure to have as colleagues. I think that the admissions committee does a great job at picking good people that are enjoyable to be around. What don't I like about the school? Well that is tough, especially because I dont have any other school to compare it to, but I think that it would be nice if the pace were slower so that you could enjoy life outside of school more. I realize that this is likely how any student at any med school would feel though! 🙄 Wake's curriculum is also very user-friendly and well organized. This is a great advantage that not all schools have!
To zeagle63 - I personally enjoy being in W-S, but keep in mind that I wasn't looking to live in a big city, and I'm no party animal. I'm young and have a family, and I think that W-S is an excellent choice, being a very family friendly community. That being said, I dont hear any complaining from the single, young, and somewhat more boisterous of my class either. I think that W-S isn't lacking in terms of things to do in free time, and most people really enjoy living here. The weather is also quite mild, which for me is a plus!
To JimmerJammerMrk - I personally wasn't accepted off the waitlist. I was fortunate enough to get into Wake and as well as a few others and I chose Wake mainly on the facts that I loved the school, the curriculum was organized, great clinical reputation, nice community, and low cost of living. I've not regretted this decision in the slightest, in contrary I'm really glad I didn't end up in a colder/more miserable place! I said it before, but remember that LOTS of the class comes from the waitlist, perhaps more than most or any other school. Just remember to show continuous interest in Wake, or you'll be more likely to get lost in the pile.
I hope this helps, let me know if any other pressing questions arise. In all honestly, this is a great place to go to med school. Best of luck to you all in this stressful, expensive, and exhausting process.
