Is the "hold" status just... "Your application is complete. Interviews are by invitation from September to March. If you are invited, you will receive a e-mail or phone call to schedule an interview"? I am so confused...

If you just got it, give them a few days to review your application. If you've had it for a while(mine had that message 7 days ago), then definitely give them a call. Someone said a few days ago that they have more people in the top pool than they have interview slots, so if you don't call, you may never receive an invite even if you're in the top pool!

And yes, this is the exact reason for why I called. I had the hold status for 3+ weeks.

had the same status, just called and found out that I didn't make the top interview pool. Thats tough this school is one of my top choices. She did say that they review the pool I am in a lot but I think she just said that to make me feel better. Well I guess ill just hope for the best

I just called. The lady said that I was in an interview pool and they will be pulling people out of it as they go. She didn't mention though if I was at the top or bottom of the pool-- She said just wait.
Same thing when I called.

so the website is down, and the phone call keeps saying call failed. umm...
Soo, ya I am in an interview pool, but not the pool they are interviewing right now. And the lady told me it would be best if I checked in after Jan. 1st of 2010, so I am guessing its the hold pool. GREAT......FML

Per the good luck in this thread, I just called and I was in the top interview pool. I am scheduled for the end of October! I had the hold message for a couple weeks and was complete about 3 weeks ago.

Well I called too and asked what my status was, and the lady on the phone basically repeated what my status page said. I tried to ask how competitive my application was, hoping she would let me know what pool I was in, but she kept repeating my status page...

Honestly, I called without intention, and the lady said I was in the top interview pool without me having to ask anything.
actually, i got invited to come to interview just last week, and im interviewing this upcoming wednesday. however, i'm a canadian student, so maybe they're looking at foreigners now?
can anyone give me some tips for interviewing at an american school? this will be my first one and im not sure if theyre similary to canadian ones.

Eh, I debated on whether or not to post my experience to SDN, but eventually I decided to because I feel those who care enough to lurk the SDN>Wake Forest thread deserve to have an upper hand 🙂

I think they interview like 3-4 days a week. When I was offered the invite, my options were two Weds, a Thurs, and a Fri.
From what I understand interviews here are much more laid back than in Canada. There is an interview feedback page here on SDN that I perused before all my interviews and found it to be pretty accurate.
Everyone else: If I remember right, when you call it basically depends on who answers the phone on how much info they will give you. I believe if you are going to be interviewed it doesn't matter who answers, but strictly for info it does. Check out last years thread for particulars. This lasts through the whole application season, so if/when you get on a waitlist if you get the right person on the phone they will tell you what part of the waiting list you are in and sometimes how far down in particular third you are in.
My biggest advice to everyone is to keep showing interest. I called them a few times last year up until the point of interview. After my interview and waitlist position I sent letters of interest pretty much monthly all the way until a couple weeks before my acceptance. They LOVE to see your interest, so show it. The calling thing didn't work so well for me. I asked to check on my status, and they said "What does your online status say? If you get an interview you'll get an email and the status will change." I didn't even get to tell them my name 🙁

Me too. When they looked up my file, they just read off what it said on my status page. I guess that means I'm not in the interview pool, or they've stopped handing interviews out by phone. Hope its the latter. Anyone else tried calling recently?

Yeah when I called last week the person said that I'm in an "interviewable pool, just not the pool they are inviting from at this time" lol. Round about way of saying "you are good, but not that good" lol.

I would imagine it's the latter, since I didn't even tell them my name. It could also be an individual thing, depending on who answers the phone - Some people are probably sticklers for not giving out info via phone, and some are probably more lax.

i called at around 10:30 this morning. i asked if my status meant i was on hold for a second review later. she looked up my file and just said something like, "you're file has been reviewed, and you'll hear from us if you get an interview." she didn't even mention anything about interview pools.

I'm getting kind of tired with Wake Forest. They take forever to process everything and now their interview hold process is a bit ridiculous. They have people in top interview pools but unless you call them, they won't tell you? And now they seem to be giving responses suggesting they're exasperated by all the calls and stressing to people to just check their status online, but apparently the only way to get an interview these days is to call. Okay Wake Forest, a little transparency in your admissions process might be nice. This might sound bad, but honestly at this point, I'm just praying I get an acceptance on Oct. 15 so I can withdraw my application and not have to worry about them anymore.
You could tell them you're going to be in the area or that you have time limitations for interviews, so they'll tell you whether you're getting an interview or not. It worked for me, although in my case it was true, and this was over a month ago.
Which is weird in and of itself, because that means that they've had this "top interview pool" for over a month and are still holding on to invites for some reason. wtf wake? 😕

Aren't we all? A lot of schools have their quirks. I'm pretty PO'd at Mount Sinai, for example. I called last Monday and they told me they haven't printed out my letters(how hard can that be?), I called last Wednesday and they said they haven't printed out my secondary(geez), I called today
and they told me, again, they haven't loaded my letters and that I should call next week(...).
Don't forget that people are applying all the way till the end of the year or something. In other words, more qualified people will be applying and I am sure the admissions office knows that and may have something to do with the scheduling of interviews. I actually thought that Wake was one of the more efficient schools that I applied to. Alot can change in a year though.

try emailing. it takes a little longer, but the response that i got from email was more informative than the response that i got from my phone call (i sent an email last week, but because it was taking awhile for them to respond, i called them yesterday. they replied to my email this morning. sadly, i got the much-feared "you have been placed in an interview pool").
I got that as well.. then it says
your interview status could change but we won't know that until after the first of the year
anyone know what they mean by "first of the year" ?

well i read it differently... i didn't take it to mean first date of the Gregorian calendar; first acceptances of the year, first rejections of the year; first walk on the beach with the adcom staff... was hoping it was something sooner so i don't have to keep checking my status/withdraw/ or whatever
