Anyone hear anything about interview invites anytime recently?

I've been complete for a while and I still haven't heard anything back either. Are we allowed to email for a status update?

😕

I tried and it didn't really work. First I sent Ms. McCormick an email about an update on my application (new LOR on AMCAS)... she responded like 2 weeks later with one word: "Thanks"

Next I emailed about a status update and a question about what happens if the snail mail letter of invitation for interview gets lost in the mail. That was about 3 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything. 😕

i think she was pretty clear on not asking for status updates, and that the only update they give is an email for the online submitted part and an interview invite in the mail...

my guess would be that if you asked for an update she'd sigh and ignore it... but that's just my guess...

Finally received my interview invite! Had been complete for a long long time. Since late July/early August, I believe.

Do you mind sharing the approximate date of your interview? A few weeks a way? A month or more? Just trying to figure out how much notice they are giving before the interview.

Thanks and congrats.

Thank you. I'll just say sometime between the upcoming holidays 🙂

Mine was about a month in advance.

Still no decision from them yet. Nothing but silence. 🙁

Stinks, because WVU is probably my top choice right now. I loved my visit there.

So, if we haven't heard back yet, should we pretty much assume waitlist? I interviewed about three weeks ago...

No, I wouldn't assume waitlist. I just interviewed this week and Ms. McCormick tried to give us an overview of what would happen to our applications from that point on. She said the admissions committee only meets once a week (on Tuesdays) and that for the last couple of meetings they haven't offered any acceptances. She emphasized that they are slow, they like to review applicants several times before making a decision. As of this week, she said the class was only about 1/4 full. By Christmas it will probably be 1/2 full and most spots will have been filled by March 15th. Hopefully this means that by Christmas some more acceptances/decisions will go out. I really wouldn't worry if you haven't heard anything from them. It sounds like the standard 6-8 week turn around might apply, or that it might take even longer. Hope that answers your question a bit. 🙂

Based on last year's thread and my phone call with Beth Ann, I would assume so. 🙁

I've visited a few other schools, and honestly WVU is the most appealing. Their campus and surrounding area was awesome and everyone was really friendly. I really, really hope I get in. I'll be happy with some of my other choices, but I gotta say WVU is my #1 choice right now.

Yeah, I really liked WVU's facilities. The only downside of it is the out of state tuition.

i got my interview invite for Dec 10th. Very excited. It took a really long time, completed around Aug/Sept. I'm OOS

Now I'm nervous to check my mailbox... I hate that they send them through snail mail!

Do they give you any choice about your interview date or at least instructions on how to change it in case they schedule you for a date that you can't make? I've got a few OOS interviews in December that I've already bought plane tickets for... would really suck if they schedule me on a day I can't make it!

The letter basically just tells you to come on a certain day. No instructions and I am not sure if they would accommodate, but most schools would. Best of luck!

You can call and ask for a later date, but don't expect anything close to when your original date was. At least, that was the case for me.

So, I have an interview coming up in December and I am having a really difficult time getting plane tickets to and from. Unfortunately, I am OOS and my interview is scheduled for the middle of the week, meaning I would be missing a LOT of class if I want to make it at 11 AM sharp. I am wondering if anyone has arrived late to the lunch thing starting at 11 (with advance notice, of course) and if this would be an acceptable thing to do. It would probably save me about $200 and I would be missing two classes instead of seven. I plan on calling Ms. McCormick either way, but I figured I would ask here first.

Anyone heard any news? Any Acceptances? Wait lists? Rejections? If so, how long from the interview did it take for the snail mail to arrive? If you couldn't tell, I am anxiously awaiting to hear from WVU too! 😀

You should be okay, but definitely call! The interview is the last part of the day and everything before it is for your own benefit, so I don't think they'll object.

I interviewed Oct. 12th and still no word from them. 😱

I'm assuming waitlist at this point.

Got a waitlist email today...bummer. I already have an acceptance on the table from a M.D. school in my state so that takes some of the sting away. I really liked this school though. I guess its better than an outright rejection 👍

Got an interview invite a couple days ago and I was excited to go until I read this :

OOS admissions data
2666 applied,
218 interviewed,
39 were accepted

that's only about 18% and I'm guessing some of those people have some sort of ties to West Virginia. Is it even worth it to go to the interview if I have another acceptance?

Those are miserable numbers. I don't think it would be worth me flying from Alaska for that

Yup. I got it, too. 🙁 Guess we can only try and think positive!

Hey more than anything, its flattering that you got an invitation to interview. When did you send in your snail mail secondary application, just out of curiosity? I am still patiently waiting for some kind of feedback...

waitlisted as well, interviewed with VTBuc. The letter says they will update every month. Sounds different than the whole wait until March scheme. Does anybody know if this is not the semipermenant waitlist?

I didn't think it is. From what I got out of the admission director's info, the first week your application comes up in the committee there is some voting and you're then placed on the waitlist. From that point on your application can be reviewed every week for an admissions decision. Basically, it sounded like everyone who interviews is automatically placed on a waitlist for the time being. Ms. McCormick mentioned the monthly updates, just so we know they still have our application. Not sure if that helps. Sounds like they're not going to be rejecting anybody for awhile.

Dang bud, was hoping you'd get in! Oh well, keep me updated and hopefully we'll both get in.

Well my understanding was that the first week you are either rejected or waitlisted (no acceptance). Then they vote on you every week after to pull you off the waitlist. This lasts 4 weeks. After that you are on the waitlist until March.

It has been 4 weeks for me, but the email said I could be pulled off after a few weeks or it could take months. So I have no idea what waitlist I'm on. It sounds like the preliminary one, but it has been at least 4 weeks so it could also be the March one. I am very confused.

Regardless, congrats on getting into somewhere VTBuc, I too have recieved a couple acceptances and it really takes away the pressure. However, WVU was amazing. It is perhaps the most impresive school I have seen.

about a 1.5 months ago. Maybe a little more.

Actually, still no acceptances. 🙁

sorry, I guess I confused you with trep. well don't lose hope man, it is still early and I don't think this is the March waitlist because we would have heard of at least one acceptance by now.

Dec 3rd and still no acceptances from WVU. Is anyone else taking this as good news?

I dunno, but it's getting closer to when I should be hearing something (about a month post-interview) and I really hope it's good!

Took me 6 weeks to hear anything post interview, and it says I'm waitlisted, but could be pulled of in weeks or months. I don't know if this happens to everyone if they eventually get accepted. Well my theory is that WVU is waiting until Christmas to send out their acceptance letters to all of us.

Well that's a bummer... I was sure that getting the secondary meant that I would also get an interview 🙁 sux.

Me too. Post-secondary rejection email today 🙁

Good Luck All!

sorry 🙁

I was under the impression (from the wording in the secondary email and from my US news Med Schools Application 2009-2010 Book) that only those who were going to get interviews got secondaries.... they should really be more clear and not get people's hopes up!

Anyways, when did you submit/were complete? Also, are you IS or OOS? I did not get that email today, so I'm hoping that means they are still intending to send me an invite :xf:

Again, sorry for the rejection... Good luck elsewhere!

I'm OOS no ties to WV and my file was complete on 10/6..hope that gives some insight!

That sucks. I, like futureNCmed, thought secondary meant interview, also from the wording, and from what was said earlier in this thread. I got so excited when I got my secondary earlier, but I have yet to hear anything since WVU received it first week in September.

Rejected today as well. Completed 9/23. I think I was a day or two late on two weeks though.... definitely thought I would get an interview with what everyone was saying about people who has secondaries sent to them. 3.5/32 OOS no ties.

Sorry to hear that. They mus really be looking for people with strong ties this year, because those stats are above their averages.

Looks like they're still sending out interview requests - got one in the mail today for early January. I'm OOS.

I called Beth Ann like 3 months ago and she told me "YES A SECONDARY = YOU GET INTERVIEW"

Yep no invite yet! Grrr...but I could care less since I got 5 invites since then. Stupid WV needs to decide if I'm interviewing or not 😡
