Felipe, give Beth McCormick a call and see what's up.

Hi s2thindi, I'm interviewing on the 18th. However, I'm taking a rental car from Columbus to Morgantown. So I'll see you there🙂 ...Are you planning on taking the bus?

I think I'm just going to rent a car... seems easier. See you there!

Looking through this thread only one person said they have been accepted

I called a few weeks ago and Beth said less then half the class was filled at that point, i don't really understand this school's admissions process

I think it's partially because they waitlist a lot of OOS applicants at first and then accept them later on in the cycle.

I just interviewed on Monday. i was told that the admission committee meets once a week. Everyone is waitlisted at first, and your file will be considered until acceptance. the class is less than half full, but they are expecting to fill the class by March 15, tentatively. In the month of January, they only accepted 4 ppl... hope this helps.

Just to add to that...next year's class will be composed of 115 students. Beth Ann said 70-75 spots are for in-state and 40-45 are for out-of-state. They added more spots this year, specifically for out-of-state students. Good news.

On the 18th how many people were interviewing? All OOS? Was your interview for MD only or for a combined program?

Hey Redbud,

Interview went well. It was pretty relaxing. There were four of us total - all out-of-state. Typically at West Virginia, they interview four people at a time and they offer interviews four days out of the week. As for the actual interview, we had two people interview us at the same time for 30 minutes each (though one of them was training to become an interviewer). They simply asked questions stemming from the primary and secondary applications - asking to elaborate on experiences (tell me about your research experience, volunteer abroad experience, MCAT preparation, grade in a certain class, etc.).

Hope that helps.

Applicants for MD program only. After leaving, I wondered about the DO students. I'm curious if they have a separate school or if they come in contact with the MD students at all. Do you happen to know the answer to this question, docgirl?

Thanks Golf Shoes. Did they still have snow in Morgantown?
If March 15 is the big day, next two weeks should be busy for the Admin Committee if class is less than 1/2 full. Seems like all those ?marks will magically disappear soon. At least those of you who interviewed recently won't have to wait months like Felipe.

Yep, they still have some snow, but they have it under control.

You're right. Beth Ann said they need to have a "tentative roster" by March 15 so I imagine the adcom will hand out at least 115 acceptances by that time. She said they meet each Tuesday. After an interview, you are automatically placed on the waitlist. From the second Tuesday on, you may be awarded an acceptance.

Are you an MD/PhD candidate at WV?

Anyone send thank you letters to their interviewers.... ?

I wonder what less than half full means? Based upon this thread it could be <10

DO students as in students at the Osteopathic School? Or am I just not familiar with the abbreviation? I may be able to help 🙂

s2thindi, I am planning to send a short thank you letter to my interviewer. I am putting it in the mail today.

redbud, I interview 2/18 and Beth Ann said the class is now 3/4 full! So its getting fuller and I'm getting more nervous haha

Yes, I'm curious about the location of the osteopathic school. Is it separated from the undergrad and medical school campuses? Do osteopathic and allopathic students ever interact?

Are you sure you interviewed on the 18th? That's when both s2thindi and I interviewed and I'm pretty sure I didn't see you there (all OOS applicants). 🙂

As far as I am aware, the only osteopathic school in WV is WVSOM, which is in Lewisberg and is not related to WVU.

Ah, I see. Thanks. That's what I would have guessed. It doesn't seem like those schools would exist side-by-side.

You are absolutely correct Golf Shoes, I interviewed the 2/19. My mistake 🙂

Has anyone who interviewed the 18th or 19th gotten an e-mail regarding a background check? I got one on Wednesday.

Nope, no email. Do you know how they notify of acceptances/waitlists at West Virginia? I didn't catch that part of Beth Ann's speech on the admissions process. I just remember hearing that candidates would be automatically waitlisted the first Tuesday with the possibility of being accepted any of the following Tuesdays.

hey docgirl, I also interviewed on the 19th. Where you the other WV resident there?

I have not gotten a background check email yet, but I'm surprised that you received an email, because up to now I have only been notified mostly by mail (other than the secondary request). Does the email specifically say its from WVU, or is it a background check request that AAMC asks for?

I believe the CBC (criminal background check) signifies an acceptance. Can anyone confirm this? It is sent through AAMC and not the particular school. If this is the case, congrats Docgirl! I predict you'll receive an acceptance soon. Either of you know if acceptances are sent through standard mail?

I agree, it usually means acceptance, but I believe WVU wasn't one of the schools that uses AAMC's background check system.

I have already completed AAMC's background check for other schools, and I noticed that WVU wasnt on their list. So, I dont know if they send their own or they use AAMC. Which sucks, because WVU is my number one choice school as well. Regardless, getting a background check usually = acceptance (to some school, the AAMC doesnt specify which school is requesting it).

Any news of movement from the waitlist? I haven't heard much outside of an email a month ago or so that said I was still on the wait/deferred list and was still under consideration.

does anyone know if WVU mails, calls, emails you if you are accepted? Any input from those who have already been accepted would be very helpful.

Yes, I am the other in-stater from feb 19th interviews. I was accepted at Marshall Medical School a few months ago so the CBC could be from them. WVU is my first choice however so I hope it is the result of an acceptance from them, but I'm not getting my hopes up! It didn't state a school, it was just the generic CBC from amcas.

WVU sends their acceptances through the mail. I have a few friends who've been accepted already and they all received letters via snail mail. It would be nice to receive a phone call or an e-mail just to expedite things. We should be hearing something by the end of this week since the committee met today and will probably send out letters tomorrow. Good luck to everyone!

Docgirl - what you said is exactly what I was going to say. WVU is also my number one choice, and I too was accepted by Marshall back in November. I also did the same AMCAS CBC. I totally forgot that you were docgirl during the interview. How did your interview go, because i thought mine went so-so and was extremely short (only 20 mins)? Well best of luck to ya, and hopefully I will see you at WVU this fall 🙂xf🙂, but like you, I also am not keeping my hopes up. Let us know if you receive any good news in the next couple of days, as i will too. Best of luck again, and hopefully the committee has made their decision yesterday, and not pushed it back another week. The wait is horrible.

just called beth, they are 25 short of a full roster and are hoping to fill them up until "after next week"

Has anyone been rejected from WVU? Or do they just put everyone they interview on the waitlist/alternate list. When do they give out rejections?

I got the impression that they either accept or waitlist. Then they have a pool of applicants to select from when someone withdraws. Beth Ann said this list is not ranked, but arranged in alphabetical order so calling to get your rank will do no good.

huh? there is no way that it could be reasonable to offer seats to people in the order of their last name. I am assuming you are not implying that people get accepted in alphabetical order?

If thats the case, I appreciate the information and I apologize for you having to be the bearer of this bad/ridiculous news...

thats not how it works at all, they put you on the list in alphabetical order but they look through all of them each week and pick out the ones the they like the most

Felipe has it right. I forgot to add that part. That would be hilarious if they went by last name, though.

So if they are taking 115 (pervious post) and today there are 25 open spots the class is 80% full. I have to believe they have finished the in-state selection, now it's all OOS. So if they want to fill it by 3/15, it could be a long meeting next Tuesday. It would be interesting to know how many are on the wait list. The waiting continues...

I just interviewed on Feb 19th so this past tuesday (March 2nd) was the 2nd time they reviewed me. That means they had to have made some kind of decision on me (either waitlist/accept/reject) at that meeting, right?

I am patiently awaiting the mail today hoping something will come. Would it be inappropriate to call and ask Beth Ann my status today if I don't receive anything in the mail? Mail runs at 3 so I could call before 5. Or should I just wait? I just wanna know what they decided about me at that last meeting!!

Mine was short too, around 20-30 mins. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. A few friends of mine who've been accepted had 15 minute interviews. The wait is killing me too as you can probably tell from the post above! I live in Morgantown now and my lease runs out at the end of April so I am getting nervous. If I get waitlisted and don't hear anything by mid-April, I will be forced to accept at Marshall and find an apartment there. Best of luck to you too! Keep us posted 🙂

Today is the last Tuesday before 3/15. Lets hope we all we are discussed at today's meeting and are going to be given acceptance letters!

keep us updated everybody. if anyone hears anything (acceptance/waitlist/or the other that I will not mention) let us know. I want to know when to be expecting some good news 🙂xf🙂

redbud - I applied to the MD/PhD program and interviewed in mid-November. I heard about three weeks ago that we would get biweekly MD/PhD updates and haven't heard anything since 🙁

They also said the MD program would send periodic status updates and I've gotten a grand total of 1 email telling me I'm on the waitlist.

When I interviewed though I heard they like to stockpile OOS and that a lot of OOS people don't hear until April...

Wow...mid november. How did you hear about bi-weekly MD/PhD updates? Have you been accepted anywhere else (MD or MD/Phd)? It does sound like OOS's have to wait until all IS are interviewed/offered spots. I wonder how the next step rolls out? 25 spots left, do they give just 25 acceptances and keep others on waitlist until those 25 say yes or no then pull from the list for the open number of spots? We'll never know the process, but just alot of waiting.

Unfortunately no acceptances yet... I've had 5 interviews (4 MD/PhD, 1 MD) and so far 1 rejection and 2 waitlists and still waiting on the last 2. I went to a small private school and all of who applied to med school are having issues. Did you apply MD/Phd too?

A friend of mine interviewed yesterday (WVU's very last interview day) and his interviewers told him that they weren't promising anything, but that he would probably hear something by next Friday. Soooo maybe that means we will all hear something by next Friday. I would assume so at least. Let's hope this means the wait will be ending soon!

Judging my last year's thread, there was a good amount of waitlist acceptances the week after 3/15, and also after 5/15.

Removing myself from the waitlist today. Good luck, yall!

Just talked to Beth Ann. Told her I interviewed the 19th of Feb and asked when I should expect to hear about my status. She said "probably later this week." Hopefully 'probably' means definitely 😀
