Has anybody who interview in January heard back yet? I interviewed 1/21, am out of state, and what I do next year kinda depends on my Baylor status.

I interviewed on 1/21 and no word yet.

Does anyone have info on when financial aid packages will be released?

Congratulations to all accepted! Longhorn and Kenqi1, are you in-state or out of state?

I know 70 percent of Baylor's matriculants are in-state, by law, but do they accept in-state and out-of state applicants together? Do they fill all the in-state spots first?

Just to clarify something...the rule is that 70% of the accepted people have to be in-state, which is not the same thing as matriculants. My class (2014) apparently is a little less than 70% in-state, some classes could end up with a higher percentage.

As far as financial aid, I know that the financial aid office has to wait until the tuition/fees figures for next academic year are official, and then the packages trickle out as they work through your paperwork. So don't delay in sending in any supplemental information they need. The sooner you get that stuff in, the sooner you'll hear back.

Good luck to those still waiting!

For those admitted: Did you ever get an e-mail to release the background check info to the school?

Also, anybody with a merit scholarship from Baylor so far?

No merit scholarships, only need-based.

I'm from New Mexico. Close but still technically out of state. 😛 So nobody out of state has heard anything recently? I'm guessing something might happen this monday...

I plan on attending the second look day, and my parents will be flying in with me. Is anybody else going to have their parents there at the second look day, or should I tell them to do something else that day?

Are you embarrassed by them? Let them check out the school you're possibly going to. It'll make your day a lot more fun. Count on 'rents being there.

When is second look? Also, does anyone have any idea how many more acceptances are going out?

I hope soon. :scared::scared::scared:

Edit: I should learn to read. I hope a bunch. Sheesh.

keep in mind that there are a TOOOON of current MS1s who are on that group

just out of curiosity, could someone post the match day results? btw, congrats to all the MS4s!

So I guess no acceptances went out this week bc of Spring Break???

We weren't on Spring Break, but it was a pretty busy week at the school with Match Day and all. I did hear that at least a few went out though.

lapidary, I don't have a match list to post...but I can tell you that the 4th years had a very successful match day. I did hear a few things I can tell you off hand. All ophtho applicants matched, all plastics applicants matched, all urology applicants matched and I believe 9 of 11 ortho applicants matched...just a few of the more competitive specialties to give you an idea.

Step 1 scores continue to be astronomical here at BCM...successful residency matches should therefore continue to be the norm.

sorry for the ignorant question, but what happens to the ortho applicants who didn't match? Did they apply to other specialties as backup?

I did hear from Dr. Greenberg the Tuesday of Spring Break. Totally unexpected. I am glowing--this school is my number one choice 🙂

Keep your fingers crossed, it's still early by Baylor's standards. Good luck to all !

Hi Cabrera,

Would you mind letting us know when you interviewed?

If this were facebook, I would "like" this post👍

I don't know firsthand what those 2 did. Typically, I'd think you'd scramble. And 9 of 11 isn't bad for ortho--it's highly competitive, and 11 is a lot of applicants for a class of ~170ish.

Congrats cabrera!

To those who are asking about when acceptees interviewed hoping to deduce your own status---remember that interview date doesn't matter at this point. Everybody is on one rank list now. They accept the person on the top of that list...that person might have interviewed in August or January.

Good luck to those still waiting!

I'm surprised they still just seem to be be sending out a handful of acceptances at a time at this point. Since all of the interviews are over and the ranked list is (I assume) finalized, I don't understand why everyone isn't informed of their status (accepted or waitlisted). What am I missing?

probably just b/c they notify those accepted by phone, so Dr. Greenberg has to find time to actually call...imo...I really wish they'd just notify us all at once though waiting is so hard 🙁

I'm not involved in the whole acceptance/notification process, but I imagine some of it is what doctor freak refers to. Also, it's worth pointing out that this is a dynamic process. As some people decline seats (insanity!), they accept more students. You certainly don't want to end up having accepted too many people. That obviously creates a huge mess. I know that some schools do this differently, but it is what it is.

Unfortunately, this is the way it's been done for years. Look back on threads past and you'll see students lamenting over the insanely long wait and trying to keep it together until June.

This is a good assessment. It is a very dynamic process and the deans have to be careful about overshooting. A lot of applicants hold on to multiple acceptances and you end up seeing a lot of movement when they have to pick just one school (on May 15th, if I remember correctly).

This plays a part as well. Also, you get a lovely personalized acceptance letter that takes time to write. Additionally, remember that those involved in the process have other responsibilities and not all of their time is spent on admissions (i.e. last week was a big week for the MS4s)

Yes, our class did amazingly well in the match this year! We started off with 174 and will graduate over 200 this May (due to people joining our class after doing MBA, PhD, MSRT, MPH, etc). Despite the increase in our class size, we had very few people that had to scramble for positions.

Here's what I remember off the top of my head (based on my friends/what I heard on match day/what I remember from the list we got)

(Just a sample of the Class of 201🙂
--> 12 (i think) going into Anesthesiology (including the Brigham, Emory, Duke)
--> 4 (maybe 5) going into Derm (including Denver)
--> 12 (i think) going into Emergency medicine [including a former AdCom co-chair that couples matched with his wife (going into Derm) at Vandy]
--> A ton going into Internal Medicine, including Hopkins, Emory, Mass Gen, the Brigham
--> 12 going into Ophtho (which is ridiculous! including UCLA, Wash U)
--> 9 going into Ortho (including UAB, U Wash, Vandy
--> 4 in ENT (including Hopkins!)
--> [what seems like] a million Pedi people (because Texas Children's makes everyone want to do peds) all over the country (only remember UTSW, Vandy, BCM, UCLA, Miami, but I know they are going all over)
--> 5 in Plastic Surg (so awesome! including U Wash, Michigan, UF, and 2 at BCM)
--> 10 radiology (including UCSF)
--> 2 in Rad-Onc (super competitive field!!)
--> 4 Gen Surg (including 1 in integrated Vascular at Michigan)
--> 7 in Urology (Northwestern, U Penn, UTSW, etc)
--> don't know specifics about Family Medicine, Med-Peds, OB/GYN (although I know one who got her #1 at Hopkins), Neurology, child Neurology, Neurosurg.

(note: even though I didn't list it.. there is at least 1 person staying at Baylor in almost all specialties)

Ya, reckon no news is no news. Still holding out for Baylor fo sho.

I heard from the adcom this week that they still had 40-60 acceptances to go out. Wish they would do it all at once! A quick email is fine by me.

Does anyone else remember on interview day when they told us we could call them at some point to see if we have a chance at coming off the waitlist? In my head I remember late March, but maybe that's just what I want it to be...

I think Dr. Eddins mentioned that you can start doing that around late May. Honestly, there's no harm in making a phone call to the admissions office.

absofreakinglutely.

Keeping my fingers crossed - 40-60 plus some turnover around May 15th - hate to wait but its worth it!

I'm gonna get the call in a couple hours! today HAS to be my day!! 😀:xf:

Who is planning on going?

Also, does anyone know what you're supposed to wear to this? Khaki/polo ok? Or should I be a gunner and go with the suit to get a leg up on AOA...?

I'm going! And under no circumstances will I be wearing a suit. I'm planning on going the biz casual route at the max, unless told otherwise. It is a Saturday, for pete's sake.

I found an email saying that BCM would prepare a waitlist during the first week of April. Think the 40-60 acceptances are before the waitlist? If so, there should be quite a few calls this week :xf:

(the more emoticons = the better chance at acceptance)

Yeah I just noticed that one of the earlier emails indicated that the waitlist would be compiled by the first week in April... I think I read in last cycle's forums that there was a big pause in acceptances from mid-March until April ~20th. WL didn't get made until early May, iirc. Wonder if they're planning on speeding things up this go round?

oh, and :luck::luck::luck::xf::xf::xf::luck::luck::luck: 😀

The email I received said: "[FONT=Calibri, sans-serif]The dress for both Friday evening and Saturday is business casual."

Sadly, I won't be able to fly out to Houston for second look 🙁 I'm from out of state, and it would be a bit difficult, but my heart will be with you guys . . . Can't wait to meet you all at orientation!
.
