How are you folks going about finding roommates/apartments when you are OOS? I would post this on the fb page but I haven't been approved to join yet... I am looking for female rommate(s)... PM me if in the same situation 😀

shoot, called yesterday. I'll wait until Friday and hope they are in a good mood, would like to know where I am in the top 1/3.

Did you call this morning? I called earlier this week and I am trying to find a balance showing my interest with multiple calls vs calling too much. I always seem to speak with the same disinterested female.

Top 1/3 is such a tease.

I call about once every Monday to admissions and send an "update" email once every 10 days, give or take, to Dr. Solhaug. I'm sure they are disinterested because of the volume of calls they are receiving, but i'm always overtly courteous. We are barely a week past the May 15th deadline, so I'm still having some hope. I'll start making other plans if I don't hear anything by July.

Hang in there Sufernuke!!! You will hear good news soon!

I called yesterday and the lady said that Dr. Solhaug and the adcom meet about once a week to make decisions. Hopefully we all get in! Good luck! :xf:

i think they meet around the end of the week.

got the call today, accepted to EVMS! male, OOS, non-trad application. See you all in august!

Congratulations, surfernuke! I'm still patiently waiting...

I was wondering if you guys got any confirmation after sending updates to Dr. Solhaug. Does he reply to your emails? I emailed the same update to the admissions office as well and they added it to my file. Thanks.

I didn't the first time. Two weeks after that I sent him an email asking why he didn't respond and saying that I was still interested. He responded "thanks for your interest in EVMS"
Two weeks after that I sent another update, no response.

Accepted a monthish later. Sent him an email saying thanks for accepting me and see you in August.... no response. I think he deals with so much e-mail he doesn't respond to most of it.

Thanks, hoya! I've sent him 2 emails and he hasn't responded. I'll try emailing him again.

Same here, sent him two emails with no reponse 🙁

I doubt it's a bad sign. He's probably getting bombarded with emails and as long as they are being added to our file, I think we should be ok. Hopefully we both get in!

Accepted and now will be declining..., weird cause I got into 2 schools simultaneously on the same day after 3 admission attempts...

Congratulation on you acceptances and thank you for declining 😀

looking for a surfing buddy during hurricane swells this fall, any shredders coming in this year?

Withdrawing today. Got off the waitlist at Hofstra and am going to go there.
I really liked Norfolk, though.

I've heard interesting things about Hofstra, isn't it true the tuition is free for the first class?

Giving up my spot. Good luck to all those still waiting. 🙂

male IS waiting here too. back to the mcat grind.

constantchange1, are you male or female? I'm also looking for a roommate, female, though..

Okay lame question. Can someone post the link to the FB accepted page please. Just searched 8 pages of forums after giving up and getting accepted off the alternate list (upper 1/3 second yr in a row, IS male). Definitely going and need to figure out if I've missed anything!

Long time lurker here. I received the acceptance package in the mail today. :soexcited::banana::soexcited::banana:

Acceptance letter was dated 6/6. I'm IS female, cGPA(undergrad):3.41, cGPA(Grad):4.0, MCAT:31. I was in top 1/3 and sent update letter 5/17 and an LOI on 6/2. I hope this is helpful.

Best of luck to those still waiting:luck::luck:

Super happy for you munchkin.

I am OOS, but your acceptance gives me hope.

Congratulations!!!!😀
I'm still waiting for that day still.

Just got accepted off the top 1/3 WL!!
Here are some of my stats/advice that may be helpful:

Stats:
- IS, double major GPA 3.6, I actually forget what my MCAT was but it was less than 30, I took it a few times which apparently worked in my favor (it showed commitment)
- I am a EMT-B, I volunteer at a childrens hospital every week and judge a middle and high school science fair every year that many of the local colleges including MCV and EVMS are involved in.

After I found out I was on the WL:
- I contacted physicians I shadowed to write recommendations
- I did not call every week, when I did call/e-mail I made sure to talk to the same person every time (I kept in contact with Ms. McLendon, who was our guide on interview day)
- I sent a letter of interest in February-ish to Dr. Solhaug, and met with him around the same time
- Most importantly, I took every bit of Dr. Solhaug's advice! The week before I got in I had a meeting over the phone with him, where he indicated that taking the advice he gives works strongly in any applicants favor. And despite me spending the whole time babbling when he said that my chances looked good for admittance this year, I got in!
- Dr. Solhaug is teaching a class this year, so his schedule is even more hectic than normal. He did not answer several of my e-mails when I first tried to contact him, I had to go through Ms. McLendon to get his attention. However, I do know that while he does not always respond to e-mails he always reads them.
- I sent thank you notes to the admissions office and to Dr. Solhaug before I was admitted.

Also, the first time that I met with Dr. Solhaug, he said that the adcom committee has about 30 files open for serious review from the WL at a time.

So basically my advice boils down to: mind your p's and q's and don't let them forget about you!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Received my acceptance off the WL on Saturday - postmarked 9 June. IS male. Good luck to all, looking forward to seeing my future classmates in August.

what were your stats and ECs if you don't mind me asking? Congrats!

Thanks!

MCAT: Originally 30R (12v/9/9), retook 38S (13v/14p/11b) (Dr. Solhaug told me that they would not accept a new MCAT this late, but I figure that it had to play a role)
cgpa: 3.38
bcpm: 3.24
Ivy-league undergrad
EC: shadowing/volunteering, 4 years in the military post-college

Thanks!
