Definitely congratulations!!

But it's actually very confusing, not exactly encouraging (no offense!). Does ranking on the waitlist not matter, I guess? Do they take people off of the waitlist indiscriminately?

It would be helpful to know more about the applicant that got in from the bottom third..... I don't think it is typical and there is probably something unique about her that vaulted her into an acceptance

... I have no idea how the admission process works at EVMS. I wish everyone on the waitlist good luck.

The admission office stated that they take people from all over the waitlist and it isn't necessarily ranked. I personally did not believe this, but I was wrong :). I didn't mean to confuse anyone. I have no idea how the admission process works at EVMS. I wish everyone on the waitlist good luck.

no problem, it is all good info. I think that makes at least a few of us who now have no idea how the admissions process works now, lol.

Received letter of acceptance, dated April 28, 2011. Relieved. Been a long journey.

My additional LOR was actually sent by the med student who was on my interview panel. I'm not sure if EVMS got it before accepting me, but I also had another LOR written by a doctor that I did some elder care with. My advice would be to have a new "author" send a LOR for you...maybe someone you've come in contact with after your interview. That way, they get a bit of an update as well as an LOR. And definitely send in letters of intent / interest. Your best bet is to keep communicating with admissions.

For whoever asked, I did receive my acceptance in the mail. I also checked my mail obsessively, haha. Good luck everyone!

Congrats on the acceptance!!

you mentioned sending and additional LOR... was it by someone who had already recommended you in your initial application?? I am thinking of asking my PI to send in another letter but not sure if it will be at all helpful since he was already one of my letter writers. anyone have any ideas about this?

talked to the office, they said scholarships and financial aid will be distributed in late June/early July...why do they do it so late? it doesn't make any sense

I think it is weird also, but what I have heard from other schools that wait so late is that they do it to give waitlisted students the same opportunity for the scholarships as the early acceptees. However, for those of us that have to make a decision on which school to go to by May 15th, it throws a huge wrench into our decision making process. :(

I was accepted off the waitlist on Friday. First acceptance and very excited about it. For those who will ask- IS, top 1/3.

Congrats! I got in off the WL last week! Happy for you, it was my first acceptance too and I'm coming to EVMS!

Hey Surgeonhands, congratulations for your acceptance. I'm on the top 1/3 on the waitlist too, out-of-state. Did you ever contact Dr. Solhaug after your interview? I'm trying to get a phone interview with him but he's a hard man to get a hold of. Thanks for your feedback!

I was able to get a hold of him via email, then he called me. GL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just accepted!!!!
OOS male, 3.5/34 Will be attending, unless I hear good news from Hofstra in coming weeks.
Sent two updates to Dr. Solhaug, along with a "hey, don't forget about me, I emailed you last week" email.

CONGRATS!! how did you hear from them?

Big envelope in the mailbox with health forms and the sort in it.
First acceptance, very dramatic way to get it.

Good luck!

Congrats! We probably got in on the same day, as I got my letter yesterday, dated the 9th. I found out I was in on Friday though after calling to check on my status.

Hahaha. Probably. I tried to call on Friday, but I had the fax number in my phone as the office number, so I said screw it, it doesn't matter.

If anyone is looking for a place to live, I have a great condo RIGHT NEXT TO EVMS, as close as you can get besides Hague Club. It is a 2BR/1BA, hardwood floors, wired with surround sound, in-unit washer and dryer (so you dont have to pay for laundry services), and comes fully furnished at $800/mo. Utilities are included (even cable television and wireless internet). Private parking lot, but you won't need a car since it's only a 2 minute walk to EVMS.

I'm a graduating 4th year student trying to fill both bedrooms, so if you have a friend in mind as a potential roommate this would be a great place. Even if you're a singleton you're in luck; for all 5 years (med master + med school) i have only ever rented to very courteous, easy-going fellow EVMS'ers. No townies or sketchballs.

email me at [email protected] if you'd like to know more about the place or see pictures.

Congratulations DrSmday. I was hoping you will get off the waitlist. You deserve it. And I am still cheering for you Quaero, I hope you're next.

Big thanks to both of you!:D

surfernuke, hopefully both of us will get in!

Thanks for the kind words, i hope so too. I figure that people either pulled their acceptances anytime from last friday to yesterday, so probably some more movement after this week.

And to be fair, more spaces may open up as EVMS accepted students get into other schools where they have been waitlisted. It's definitely not over yet!

Does anyone have any guesses on how many OOS spots might still be offered? Or about how big the top 1/3 waitling list is by now?

According to Bige11's list on the EVMS waitlist thread, around 10 SDN people were offered spots after this date last year, so maybe double (or triple) that number were actually offered if I'm optimistic and assume that most people offered spots don't mention it on SDN. That means I'd better hope I'm one of the top 20 or 30 still left on the waitlist...

I guess I just answered my own question, but that still doesn't help me feel any better. Good luck to everyone still waiting!!!

So they actually divide the wait-list into more than just 1/3s? Does it really matter which section of the top third you are on? I'm really confused by the selection (some people from the lowest third could get accepted before top third).

well when you ask them if there is a strict ranking on the 1/3 they always say no... Dr. Solhaug told me on the phone that its not like when someone refuses an acceptance they just click next on a comp and accept the person who popps up... but there is still somewhat of a rank... There are also posts from past years by ppl who asked where on the 1/3 they were and got a response like "top/bottom half"... I personally never asked them so I don't know how willingly they give this info away... just keep sending in those interest letters, they really help!

A new spot just opened up... I just withdrew, so an In-State slot should be available.

Good luck to you all, Norfolk is a great city and EVMS is a great school!

Does anyone know anything about the Hague Club apartments? If you get off the waitlist are they great apartments to live in or are they very old and rundown? Thanks for any help.

I will be living at hague club apartments next year. I was told during my interview that it was the best to live by campus by a current student. I never heard of anyone saying that they are old and rundown, like I have heard about hague park and pembroke towers.

I never had the chance to see them yet, and I couldn't find pictures or floor plans on the internet.
