Guju.... easy there. I agree that you should appreciate all interviews, but it is understandable that she would express her frustration with the process. We have all, at one time, been extremely frustrated with this painful process.

If you knew me, you would know I am ANYTHING but pretentious. I have one acceptance (and its not from Miami) and I feel very lucky when I get interviews because it means that all the work I have done up to this point has been worth it. It upsets me that people like you feel the need to tear apart people on the internet --- you have no right. Its people like you who make SDN look bad.

dont feel too bad, i got my head bit off on another thread for the same reason. i know why you posted this, and it has nothing to do with whining or being pretentious. we all have different experiences and we want to share them here on the forums with others who are going through the same process. even if nobody posted a message of thanks for sharing your story, im sure there are people reading this thread that are happy to hear that there actually was a possibility of getting an interview invite after receiving that email. i would be willing to bet that every single one of us has experienced some sort of frustration with this process, and we should be able to share that frustration. good luck with the rest of the season ashley!

me too... i've never been a patient person. i thought that i'd have to become one because of the nature of this process, but instead i'm still just as inpatient as always and therefore perpetually frustrated.

Congrats! I did the exact same thing - ranted and then got an acceptance email an hour later haha. Hopefully we will be classmates! 🙂

Right now, it seems like a very likely possibility. I still have more interviews (both state schools) so we shall see. But I can't ignore my gut, and I absolutely LOVED gw! 😍

Is it time for a facebook group? 😀

They have a gmail group that you should get a notification for pretty soon, if you haven't already gotten it.

got accepted yesterday morning. interviewed january 4th i think. 31P, 3.9s, 3.9 overall. Whats the financial aid like at GW?

So I received an email saying I have been put on the alternate list and that many students ultimately get accepted from this list. Is this the same as the waitlist? Does anyone know how good the chances are of getting accepted off of this list?

Yeah, not that many people have posted. There might be a lot more in the group. It seems like the ones who have are going to GW for sure and the rest might just be lurking.
 
guess that makes sense. For those of you who are definitely going, do yall know if you plan to stay in dc? or around the the va/md area?
 
I don't know if it's too late for interview invites, but just in case it isn't, here's some hope for you guys/gals waiting for invites.

I was on that pre-interview wait list since July and hadn't heard a peep from GW since then. Decided a couple of weeks ago on 02/03 to email them and ask for an update. Then on the 7th, I received that email saying how there is a slim possibility of getting an interview and that the regular interview season is essentially closed. In the email, they asked for a letter of interest to be sent no later than the 18th. I figured it wouldn't hurt to write a letter, so sent one the next day. Lo and behold, I got an invite two days after sending that letter! Message of the story: Don't give up hope and do whatever they ask you to do!

Considering I'm wait listed at one other school that rarely accepts OOS applicants and that the interview season is about to end, GW is my last hope for fall 2011 admission. But like I said before, just hang on to that last bit of hope! If we get rejected, there is always next year right? Good luck to y'all.
 
Anyone get some strange emails from GWU? I just received 4 emails saying:

Wow, I'm really surprised!! I was complete back in August and was placed on pre-interview hold back in August too I think. I sent an update letter in November, then sent a LOI earlier this month.

And my interview is scheduled for next Friday! 😱 Late notice... but I'll take it!!!

Does anyone know if we're interviewing for waitlists at this point? I'm still definitely going since I have no acceptances yet!

I just withdrew my app last week. As people are withdrawing, more spots are opening up so you are interviewing for an acceptance!!! I dont even know the deal of interviewn for waitlist spots I know of a lot of ppl who are in med skul and interviewed in march and got accepted without going thru waitlist first.

Hey guys, has anyone (unfortunately) received a post-interview rejection? Or do most interviewees get wait-listed? Whatcha think?

Also... I've pretty much only lived in CA and FL my whole life... so anyone from the DC area, how is the weather? From checking the weather online, it looks like it's going to be cold, but I don't have a nice thick coat to wear with my suit. Anyone have any advice/suggestions what to wear for the cold weather? Am I going to have to go out and buy a professional-looking coat??
 
Super cold! On my interview there were people from CA who didn't bring coats with them and had to buy them the day before because it was freezing! Any decent wool coat should be fine..just be sure to bring a scarf/hat/gloves! I stayed at the GWU inn for my interview (I'm from NY)-it was a 5 minute walk to the school which was awesome but it was about $140/night

its supposed to be in the 40s the next few days. I dont think you need that big of a coat.

no need to buy a new coat unless you know you'll use it in the future and you're ready to make the investment... whatever coat you have paired with your suit jacket and shirt should keep you warm enough! mittens + scarf also work wonders

Hey bpost1377! I know this is random, but I'll definitely be rooting for you during your GW interview. I am also from CA and graduated from a UC...with stats relatively similar to yours. I was beyond pumped for my GW interview, so I know how excited you are!

The problem is I really don't have a coat at all that would go with a suit. It never gets that cold here in CA. Thanks for all the advice!! I was thinking 40s wasn't that cold, but others were warning me I was going to freeze.

Aww, thanks!! 😉 How long ago was your GW interview? What did you think? I'm definitely excited about this interview, plus I've never been to Washington DC!

PS: Hahaha, I would have to respectfully disagree and say Irvine >>>> Riverside, GO ANTEATERS!!! 😛

Congratulations! I interviewed yesterday and the coordinator said there are definitely still spots open for acceptances 🙂

I really had lost hope when I got the pre-interview hold and of course when I got the "slim chance" email. I'm certainly glad I wrote the update and LOI!! I emailed the LOI 2/10 and got the invite 2/24.

Glad to hear there will still be acceptance spots!! But I would certainly go even if it were for WL. I'm trying to remain hopeful, but realistic this cycle. Speaking of which, does anyone know how many acceptances they typically offer? (sorry if this was asked earlier). I noticed on MSAR they interview ~1000 people!

In the invite email, it assigned me the date 3/4, but they said I could try rescheduling to a later date... So it seems there are later interview dates and perhaps even spots left, so there's still hope for others waiting for an interview!!!
 
congrats bpost. if you're strapped for cash, stay with a student. the e-mail they sent you should have said something about student hosts, or i think i e-mailed them (i forget how i did, but i stayed with an awesome MS1.)

also, you should be fine with your suit, no need to buy a whole new coat. just go with a hat/scarf/gloves instead.

My interviewer said that this year, they'll interview about 1,100 students, accept about 300, for a class size of about 175.
 
So, it seems that some people heard well within the 8 week timeline that GW tells interviewees it will take to hear whether they've been accepted (ie- some have heard after only 4-5 weeks). Has this happened to many people, or does GW seem to stick pretty closely to the 8 week timeline with most applicants?
Also, how have people been notified of acceptances and rejections at that time (phone/email/snail mail)?
... just trying to prepare myself for incoming good or bad news...
