Does that 300 number include people on alternate list or these are straight acceptances?

I was under the impression that they offer 300 original acceptances, pre-waitlist acceptances...

Accepted!!!!
Interviewed 1/21

99% chance I'll be attending unless another school decides to give me a full ride lol

Yay! Also accepted!! I interviewed 01/25!

Definitely leaning towards attending! 🙂 I have some less expensive options but I was blown away by GW and DC!

Ditto. Its an excellent school with so many opportunities in a really cool city. Congrats!

Hey, does anybody know the likelihood of finally getting an acceptance if I have been declared as an alternate?

thanks

As far as I know, a lot of people get accepted off the alternate list every year. Check towards the end of the 2009-2010 GW thread. That should give you a decent idea.

ive just been put on the alternate list as well. I know their email sounds really optimistic but apparently its just another name for "waitlisted". Im not expecting any movement from this list till after may 15

Still no facebook group, right?

And has anyone heard anything about a second look?

😀 <- This is me all morning!

accepted!
Interview 1/13

Super excited!!!
definitely attending!

Placed on the alternate list... will be withdrawing!

Good luck everyone!:luck:

So are we encouraged to send Letters of Interest to GWU post-interview, pre-decision?

Thanks!

My friend did. she sent at least 3 letters to GW that I know of.

Did that work out well for her? lol

Also, got an email asking about what I've been doing.. personal/professional experiences lately. Anyone else get that? Think that's a good thing? lol

I got that email a week after my interview... ultimately placed on the alternate list.

Hi Prateek,

I sent a letter post-interview, pre-decision this cycle stating why I want to be at GW, why I feel I'm a good fit for GW, updating them with a couple of new abstracts, and ultimately, telling them that I would be thrilled to accept a place in the class of 2015 if offered.

I was told it would be placed in my file. 5 weeks later I got an acceptance!

Good luck! 🙂

Hey guys

Just throwing this out there. I got accepted this year to GW with no letter of interests/intent after sending multiple letters pre- and post decision last year a. While they say they will add to the file, the committee may not review them at all. But I guess it doesn't hurt. Good luck to those still waiting!

Anyone get off the alternate list yet? Anyone have any stats on how what percentage of people that stay on the alternate list get in? I say that because I know a lot of people are extended interviews and don't go. So I assume that's why the number of people interviewed is so high at GW.

When I applied last year, there was no wait list movement until after May 15. There might be 1 or 2 ppl moved from the waitlist before May 15 but I think for the most part the "fluid and organic" movement that they talked about in the waitlist letter most likely happens after the May 15 deadline. As for the percentage of the people who get in, no one really knows. You can try to ask the admission office but I don't know if they will give out that information (there will be fluctuations from year to year). Considering that almost everyone who interviews at GW is alternate listed, I wouldn't expect the percentages to be very high. Good luck to all the waitlisters :luck:

Does GW ever let you know your position on the waitlist? Anyone know the chances of getting off? I know the number of interviews extended and the number accepted, but I know a good number of people withdraw their applications.

Does anyone know of a place to find a GW match list for 2010 or any of the recent years?

Thanks jmr86.

Another quick question. Does anyone have info on the decelerated 5 year MD program at GW or know of anyone who went through it/is currently in it?

I was recently accepted to GW via this program, but I also hold an acceptance at Morehouse for their regular 4-year MD program and am on the wait list for another school. I wanted to try to gatehr as much info as possible about my options so that I can make the best educated decision when the time comes.

Also, if I recall correctly, GW's cirriculum is not system's based/integrated, but instead the lectures are taught by subject (ie- straight biochem, immunology, cell bio ow whatever the courses are, etc.) The proper name of this kind of cirriculum escapes me at the moment.

Thanks in advance for any help or direction!

They really don't have any info on their website about the 5-year program. They say its best to get more information by emailing them. You have to look at it personally from all academic/life/financial aspects. Good luck with your decision! :luck:

Hey House, do you mind if I ask what your stats are? Just curious, as my stats are kinda average/lower than I'd like...

Congrats on getting an acceptance btw!

Congratulations on your acceptances!

I went to GW for med school, though I didn't do the 5-year-program, my advice would be to go to a traditional 4-year school or ask if GW will let you enroll in the regular 4-year program. The way it works is that year 1 is split into 2 years and the next three years are normal. The problem is that the 5-year students have it pretty easy the first 2 years but when they enter MSII classes, some aren't quite prepared for the pace because they haven't learned how to study efficiently...and really, the most important stuff for Step I is taught in MSII so it's a double whammy. Furthermore, during Match season, I recall some of the 5-year students complaining that they had to explain why they took an extra year to graduate so it would seem like some residency programs see taking 5 years to be a red flag (excluding people who take a research year).

From my perspective, the traditional (i.e. non-integrated...whatever "integrated" means from place to place) lectures were great because attendance was optional. I just read the notes and BRS, made my own schedule, was my own boss. If you do decide to go to GW, my advice is to skip the lectures. They are mostly subpar and you'll be more efficient teaching yourself.

OTOH, I'm now a resident at JHU and (at least for the small group stuff I'm assigned to teach), we are instructed to take roll. I'm not sure whether there are any consequences of skipping class but since no one is ever absent, I'm assuming they're forced to be there. The way I see it is we're adults paying for the privilege of medical school so we should have the option to attend or not attend class. I would stay away from schools that force participation in the first 2 years. You'll have to choice when you get to the wards.

Thanks jmr86.

anyone else semi worried about the potential 280k debt (70k x 4 years)?

thats daunting

kind of most worried about getting in... then I figure I'll deal with the debt.

guess you can't put a price on your dreams lol

yea, that was corny.

that is pretty standard if you go to a school out of state or a private school now (and for the lucky few from states like CA and PA in state costs aren't trailing far behind)

daunting yes, but literally thousands will be in your position as well and its doable

I'm definitely in the semi-worried category. On one hand I could go in-state (in Arizona) and take out ~120,000 or I could go to private out of state (which is what I want to do) and take out ~280,000. Thats a fair bit of money that essentially becomes what?...$500,000 by the time you actually pay it off post residency. That's a lot of money and seriously weighing the pros/cons is a good thing to do. Basically SamuraiR, you aren't alone! 🙂

I can definitely understand your worry..although for me, every school I was accepted at was at least $43K or higher. GW was actually the second least expensive. Being a PA resident, I pretty much get screwed as far as tuition costs (as DonutShot pointed out).

I'll definitely be applying for the NHSC scholarship to try and bring down the cost, but I'm not going to worry about paying it off until I get there.

Right now just enjoy your acceptance. 🙂

And do you feel like your interviews went well?

I wouldn't judge your chances based on stats or how well you thought your interviews went. I'd take a coin, assign "heads" as "i have no idea what's going on" and tails as "I really have no idea what's going on," and then flip it and whatever you get is your chances of getting in =D

I have over a 35+ MCAT, between a 3.0-3.5 sciGPA, strong post-bac record at a competitive program (above a 3.7gpa), and I thought the interview went well (definitely nothing "red flag" worthy).

I love the school, and I'm hoping for the best.

i thought my interview went awful. I walked out of there wanting to shoot myself. Also...my sciences were at a community college, and I had essentially no science research (had research in IT tho). I keep telling myself that I got super lucky to get accepted.

I honestly think anything is possible lol. I wouldnt gauge it by your interview at all.

As for the debt, I still have my state school interview pending. That'll be my decision maker. I loved GW tho. So who knows what'll happen 🙂

This makes me feel a little bit more hopeful. I literally almost started to cry when I walked out of the faculty interview, yes it was that bad - the only thing that stopped me was the fact that I knew I had to keep it together for my student interview. I interviewed on 2/4 ... still waiting to hear back.

Post is too quiet. Anyone know if the class is full? I sent an update letter a little over a month ago telling them about my new job responsibilities and reiterating my interest in their school. I just found out that my publication that had been pending publication is going to be published in June. Should I send another letter?

Was just accepted via email this morning! Interviewed 2/4. First acceptance, so excited!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! How did you feel after the interview? Did you send any updates or LOI? I just interviewed here last week and I'm really excited / nervous to hear back!
