Well the good news is, if they were indeed bad at their jobs, they will be gone. That means new faces and a fresh start for the incoming class. At least it shows that the school is serious about bettering its organizational structure...

Are there any current GW med students out there who can comment on all of this? Is all of this upheaval in the medical school's top positions a positive thing? Or should we be concerned?

all u lucky ppl who got interviews ... can u please post your stats? mcat/gpa plz 🙂 im on re-review god knows til how long .. my stats are b: 11, p: 11, v:10, gpa: 3.89. im a canadian

Congrats! Were you on re-review?

Yeah, actually I was on re-review...maybe for 2 months or so.
mcat:30 gpa: 3.70. Interview in late January. I really thought the re-review was a eventual rejection... good luck to everyone else.

Does anyone know if GW rejects post-interview, or they either accept or place on alternate list?

I imagine every school rejects post interview. They wouldn't bother putting someone on the waiting/alternate list if they have no communication skills, make racist or judgmental comments, or in some other way indicate they don't have what it takes to be a doctor.

I think it's pretty obvious what is going on here. GWU has had a lot of problems lately and is attempting to clean house ASAP. The school simply does not want to be tainted by these people anymore. That way, anyone who is on the fence about the school can be assured that the new leadership is in no way connected with the problems of its recent past. However, until new leadership is in place it is basically just a confusing mess for applicants like us.

::sigh:: haven't heard anything yet and was placed on review on 9/16. I was on review the entire application cycle last year and hope they will give me an opportunity to interview here!

Have you tried sending update/interest letters as I've been advocating on here the last several pages???

Maybe that will help your case some.

ya i second this. it is essential that you update at this school and show tons of interest. they make it pretty clear that showing genuine interest is a huge plus. good luck guys!

I third this suggestion by Guju, after I sent in my update letter I got a "thank you for updating us" and a subsequent acceptance fairly rapidly (*within a week or so of one another)

I interviewed here on 10/28, and received an email from them on 11/10 asking for a "graduate letter of good standing from Columbia" (I'm currently in a master's program there). I had my advisor immediately mail in a letter with my midterm grades (they were good), thesis and involvement updates, and I haven't heard anything since. I don't know what to think!

Should I personally submit another letter of update/interest? Has anyone even heard anything back post interview lately?? Thanks in advance for the advice 🙂

I'm not sure about GWU specifically, but I know this is true for other schools: a letter of "good standing" from a graduate program is usually a letter from your dean or registrar stating that you are in good standing as a student of the program, not behind on tuition payments, and will be graduating on time/before you would matriculate to the medical school. Its less about being a good student, in an academic sense, and more about in good standing with the institution in completing your degree requirements, tuition, other paper work, etc. Med schools try not to poach from other programs, which was something they did in the past (70s and 80s), so they are looking to avoid that but also to verify that you're not flaking out on a prior academic comittment.

The letter your advisor sent though will still help since GWU is open to updates and supportive of additional letters, so its good that he wrote something in support of your accomplishments and application.

Thank you! Good to know. I forwarded my advisor the email from GW - and she said she has done these before, so I am assuming she included the things you listed showing "good standing."

Do you / anyone else think it would be a good idea for me personally to send in another letter?

If you have something meaningful to say, then it's probably worth a shot. If this is your first choice, then say that in the letter. They seem very receptive to updates.

The weather has been winter like....

just to throw it out there... i live nearby dc and im freaking FREEZING. Its been 30s the past few days and dropping into the 20s at night. Much colder than most other winters and i've been here for like 10 years

I'll be in D.C. for an interview at GW on the 16th and I know I am not ready for the cold. I live in Georgia and we usually only have a few days of cold weather. I actually just bought my first scarf ever last week! I guess its time for me to get my winter gear together.

hey guys I guess, guju already answered this, but I have some upcoming interviews and it's going to be coollld 30, snowing at times. what should I wear?

I'd suggest a suit. Probably with some sort of coat over it that you can remove when you go inside. I'm sure they'll understand.

under armour cold gear inside everything... its...amazing

Won't that be uncomfortable during an interview? I wouldn't want to be red and sweating profusely during an interview. My vote is for outer layers.

have you ever worn coldgear? its the most comfortable thing in the world lol

I'd be boiling if I wore coldgear indoors. All-weather gear might be a better choice lol.

Waitlisted Today. I interviewed on Oct 22. 3.75GPA, 31MCAT No big worries because I have already been accepted by a school I'd rather go to anyways. Good Luck to those of you still waiting.

Congrats to those of you who got interviews! I'm still on re-review and just sent my update letter today. They replied really quickly saying they appreciated the update and would add it to my file. :xf: Let's hope it helps.

I received an interview invite this afternoon after being on hold since mid-September. There's hope everybody!

Thanks for sharing! I've been complete since mid-September as well, but will be sending my update letter today.

Update: Received confirmation email: Thank you for your message. We'll update your file with this information. We appreciate your interest in GW.

Hope it's makes a difference! Thanks for your inputs, everyone!

Anyone up for a little speculation? I am a bit curious about what, if anything, is going to happen next week. Dec 17 would be the most likely Friday in December that a mass rejection could potentially occur, given the prior ones occurring on Fridays Nov 19 and Oct 22, and Dec 24 being smack in the middle of holiday break (and kind of a holiday itself). Here's to hoping they are done with mass rejections.

In any case, they seem to still be sending interview invites, so maybe some more of us will get an early Xmas present and be pulled off the hold list. It will be interesting to see if they have officially entered "break mode" and we won't hear anything again until January, or if we have a week or so to go yet.

Thanks for the support Champaigne, your commen truly made me feel more positive about this whole process! Good luck to you as well!

Could you please let us know your interview date?

I was completed on Oct 5th and put on hold ever since.

D.C. bound in the morning!! Super excited about my GW interview on the 16th!! 🙂🙂🙂

I've been under re-review since September, and suddenly my status has changed to:

"Your application is complete and under review by the committee. Correspondence concerning the status of your application will be emailed to you shortly."

What does this mean? Impending interview invitation or rejection?

Have you sent an update lately? I have the same status and had sent an update approx. 3 weeks ago. Not a clue what it means though.

This is nerve-wracking.

I did send an update, about 2 weeks ago...

For how long have you had this status?

I check often (not quite OCD, but close) and just checked now that you posted and it turned out I had the same status. So I wouldn't be surprised if this status came up either yesterday or today.

Can someone who's received either an invite or a rejection give some input?
Thanks in advance.
