Anyone have any thoughts on the interview experience?

same! interviewed dec. 2 any you guys call admissions?

I interviewed on 11/23 and still have not received a decision. I've called admissions a few times over the last two weeks and they just keep telling me that they are backed up because of the holidays/snow days. Apparently my file has been with the committee for over 2 weeks now, so I'm not sure what to think.

Maybe it's a good sign that you haven't heard anything. I just received an email telling me that I was selected as an alternate. I interviewed on December 3rd. I am pretty bummed out. Does anyone know if anyone gets rejected post-interview. I do not wish that upon anyone, but it just seems to me like everyone gets either accepted or placed on the alternate list after the interview so I am not sure if I should be that excited about it. Good luck to everyone else still interviewing and congrats to those who have been accepted!

Hi, Does anybody have Dean McQuail's and Ms. Flores email addresses? (not the general admissions office email address). Can't seem to find them. Thank you.

Why do you need them? Because if you just want to ask about the status of your application, that's probably why they're not easy to find. So I'd really recommend not using them for that.

Hey I have 4.0 and 36, but am under re-review, is there any chance I'll get an interview? Applied pretty late.

Congrats Prateek! I got an invite as well, and am also interested to hear other people's thoughts on the interview experience at GW.

My interview day definitely wasn't typical (lots of faculty and staff absent due to a snowstorm), but I thought the interviews were too short to be of much use. I suppose they have you "figured out" in the first five minutes no matter how long the interview is, but the 25 minutes they allot for each interview seemed insufficient - it made it seemed rushed. The student panel during lunch was quite useful and offered a lot of insight into the feel of the student body.

Overall, everything seems great. Facilities are up to par, location is wonderful, and GW Hospital is shiny. The track program is awesome. One thing that concerned me is that students spend an awful lot of time in the classroom - seemed like 8-5 everyday...

I agree that would be boring. But I have an M1 friend there who says that if you do go to class for that stretch, you don't end up having to do much outside of it.

This may seem kind of dumb, but do they provide any sort of breakfast food\coffee to interviewees? Just wondering for planning purposes.

How late? I applied in Sept, have 3.9 sci/32 and still am under re-review. Even still, I get the feeling that though the admissions are rolling everyone still gets a fair shake. I wanna say they had something ridiculous like 14K applications last year, the most to any school ever, so it takes some serious time to even get to the re-reviews.

They didn't have any breakfast when I interviewed, but they did have a wicked good lunch! If you find yourself needing food/coffee beforehand there is a Starbucks just up the street from the medschool.

Those giant cookies they had... yum.

Interview cookies are tasty, but what I really want is one of those acceptance t-shirts people were talking about on the last page.

Newyorktrojan,

I interviewed nov 19 and also got an email requesting a letter of good standing from my masters program in early dec...i had it sent in a few hrs later. I read the other posts about poaching applicants but I was wondering if you had any specific advice. I've been updating gw monthly and they are VERY familiar with my app as they interviewed me for the past two years n waitlisted me...but I was never asked for a letter of good standing. I don't want to get my hopes up...

I am sorry... I just saw this. I'd say just keep updating with your activities as they seemed responsive to that. I received an acceptance a few weeks after my "letter of good standing" was sent in, but less than a week after my personal "update letter" was submitted - that, I'm guessing, was what really got my acceptance. But who knows. Good luck!

any interview here and get ethics questions?? i saw more of the standard questions on the interview feedback, but just curious if i should prep for ethics

Most of the questions I got (both faculty and student) were general: tell me about yourself, why medicine, what clinical experiences do you have.

Because they are blind interviews, they have to spend all 25 minutes getting to know you, and the interview doesn't really have time to develop to the ethics stage of things. By the time they get a sense of who you are, time's up!

There may be exceptions, but I doubt you'll face ethics questions for GW interviews, based on who I've talked to and what I've seen/experienced.

Been on rereview since early september. Just giving up hope now.

that's it. I'm writing another letter of interest tomorrow. I want interview cookies!

Dear GWU College of Medicine,
I am writing to express my interest in your school, specifically those giant cookies you give out to your interviewees, and those T-shirts that you give to your acceptees. Please extend me an interview invitation, or at the very least, mail me some of those cookies and a T-shirt in the same giant envelope that I sent my secondary in.

Jolly Good,

MW

LOL. Maybe I've realized that asking for an interview is asking for too much. I've really lowered my standards this late into the season.

Or maybe I just really like cookies...

realize this topic has probably been beat to death, but anyone know about how many people they accept (vs matriculate)?

Inquiring minds want to know if they are chocolate chip cookies...

Is there a way to find out what # you are on the waitlist? Also, because some people use gwu as a backup school... How much movement is there on the waitlist? Thanks!

Interviewed on 11/23 and still haven't heard anything!!! 10 weeks since I interviewed as of yesterday. Grrrrrr....

Sorry, just needed to vent my frustration. :boom:

Wow, 4 minutes after I posted that...I GOT AN ACCEPTANCE EMAIL!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Maybe the gods at GW heard my internal rant

LOL! well there's still hope for an interview (and cookies), right? We'll just have to wait and see! :luck: and :xf: for all of us re-review people!

Congrats girlinthegarden! 😀

How many students does GWU interview?

For the 2008-2009 cycle (2 years ago) GW interviewed 1,038 candidates (out of 13,294 applicants), or 7.8% of those that applied.

Early September, I think

Sorry if this has been discussed earlier on, but I'm wondering what the best (ie-cheapest!) options for hotels near the school are. I know there's an informal student hosting program, but I'm getting in kind of late the night before my interview, so would like to just crash at a hotel that's within walking distance (so I don't have to get up too much earlier than is necessary for the 9 am start)!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

For cheapest, your best options are probably to look in Arlington for hotels off of the metro blue or orange line, both lines get off at Foggy Bottom (first stop in DC from VA) right outside the school. The Crystal City (4-5 stops), Rosslyn (1 stop), Courthouse (2-stops) areas are some options in Arlington.

I stayed at The One Washington Circle Hotel and it cost about $100. It is literally about a 5 minute walk to campus.

Looks like I just got rejected, 9 weeks post-interview. This afternoon my status changed to

"Correspondence concerning the status of your application has been sent to you via postal mail to your preferred mailing address on file with AMCAS."

which, based on the lack of call/email and last year's threads, can only mean rejection. It does make sense, considering that I had a ghastly faculty interview. Truly terrible, and entirely my doing. Fortunately my interviews since then have been much better. I just hope I get in somewhere...

Regarding hotels - I really advise everyone in general to check out www.hotwire.com. Saved me a bunch so far 🙂.

To ID the hotel, Google better bidding forum/Hotwire. Afterwards, one just has to find the correct regional forum/match the characteristics (easier than it sounds)

Just received rejection email (pre-interview). Oh well.
