AHHHHH I just got an interview invite!! Didn't think it would happen! Great end to a stressful day!

May I ask when you guys were complete? Congratulations too!

I can't help but feel like I'm being robbed. There's not even an application I get the satisfaction of filling out. I'm just handing over my money.

Ridiculous.

Try not to worry about it. Trust me, it's a much bigger offense when you drop a couple hundred dollars on a flight ticket/hotel for a school, then show up at the interview and realize they don't care at all and/or had no intention of taking you. Mayo puts on a great show, and they put on an even better, authentic show once you're a student here. As someone who interviewed at 10 schools, I promise you will love it here. It blew me away from the moment I set foot on campus (I went in skeptical/not knowing much about the school). Also, Mayo gives back to its students in the financial sense. In case you haven't heard, we all get substantial merit scholarships yearly, and this year some donor decided to pay the tuition for every medical student in all four classes. So we pay nothing this year. I hope your interview process goes well, and try not to think about the money. It's just part of the process.

Yep This helps thanks and good luck Hopefully see you at the white coat ceremony next year :xf:

Has anyone else picked the 9/20/2010 interview date??? I'm curious who I am up against 🙂.

Congrats to the people that got interviews

Does anyone know how it works; my letters were received on 7/13 like a few of the others that already received interview invites. Does that mean that they looked at it and put it on hold to look at more apps. Does anyone know if mayo does that or do they send out a rejection or "application held" email so you know that they looked at your app.

Thanks

MICH, Try not to think about it too much. What if 4,000 other people had their LOR's marked received on that date?

What does it mean if I STILL haven't heard anything?? Fee received in June, no rejections, no LOR requests, nothing...

I wouldn't worry about it too much; they have a LOT of applications to go through. No rejection=good sign!

"No news is good news"

Does anyone know if Mayo offers student hosts for the night before interviews?

Thanks for the help 🙂

They do...an email will be forthcoming to those who were given interviews. Try to stay with a student if you can......not only is it fun but you will go into your interview with a great deal of knowledge about the school.

Does Mayo send out rejection letters right away or do they wait until March? I received my letter request and was complete 7/7. =(

With the exception that Mayo does keep people waiting as alternates, they are really pretty good about letting people know where they stand without dragging things out too long.

I can't promise how long it will take them to get to your application at this early point in the season, but you'll find a lot of other places leave you hanging much more.

Also, I agree with Nerday. I too saw many schools and though some were really great, none compared with the Mayo experience.

:luck: everyone!

I will second this.

Mayo is good about informing students where they're at. It took a month or 2 between letter request and interview, so hang in there. It's a long process, so don't stress out yet!

Remember *No news means you're still in it!

Hey everyone!!!

I'm just now joining this thread, so forgive me if these questions were already answered earlier in the 7 pages lol. I just added Mayo to my list of schools a few days ago (I've always wanted to apply... but when narrowing my long list of schools down, I took it off because of it's high MCAT average of 35... but I changed my mind and decided to go for it). I have a high GPA, lots of research, publications, etc... but a low MCAT score 🙁.

1. What exactly does it mean if they request LORs? Do they only want to read LORs from people they are seriously considering for interviews? Or people they're not quite sure about? Is it possible for them to inform you they don't need your letters, but still invite you for an interview?

2. Mayo will inform you of every step of the process (LOR requests, interview invites, etc) via email, correct? There's no hidden online application status that I somehow missed?

Thanks, good luck to everyone!! Mayo 😍 is definitely a reach school for me, but I thought I'd give it a try anyways!

1. Mayo doesn't have a secondary. They will ask you to pay a fee after screening your AMCAS app, LizzyM score at least 60, I think. After that, they will look at your application, and if they are still interested, they will ask for your LORs. After the LOR request, you will be put on hold, invited to interview, or rejected. It's a step by step process, so you cannot be invited to interview without sending in your LORs.

2. Yes everything is by email.

Good luck! I also thought Mayo was a reach, but I just got an interview invite a couple days ago, so anything can happen 🙂

Wow, congrats!! And thanks for answering my questions! 🙂

What date are they at for the LOR requests? Have they reached those who paid the fee around mid-July?

My fee was received 7/19 and still nothiiiiiinnnnngggg.

WTF.

Just got the not selected email. My LOR were received 7/7.
35R, 3.98, three years research, five+ years community service, good LORs and clinical experience. Must not have been interesting enough for MMS...
Holding interviews to Vandy, Yale, U Chicago, Creighton, Nebraska.

Good luck to everyone!

For those people who are waiting on LOR's, etc, try not to worry! Mayo gets a lot of apps and it just takes time to sift through everything. The majority of this process is waiting (for all schools), so just try to enjoy the ride! If any of you get interview invites and want to arrange to meet up with current students in an informal setting (see: social event) before or after your interview, let me know. As the self-designated social coordinator for the first year class, I can hook you up ;o).
Much love,
Nerday

rejected pre-interview at.... 2:35 a.m. Sunday morning?

best wishes to everyone else!

If you guys don't mind, I was hoping that the people that got rejected pre-interview emails could post when their letters were received.

Thanks a lot

Good luck with everything!

Hey Nerday, Do you know of any cheap hotels in the area? I have to stay an extra night in Rochester bc the last flight out is at 4... Thanks!

These pre-interview rejections are now making me anxiously waiting for the same email...any day now for me...but it does seem like they're not necessarily going in order of LOR received date...given the dates posted by interview invite people above and the rejected...

Letters received 7/7. Rejected 8/8. On a sunday? the holiest of days? c'mon. =(

received secondary 6/26
submitted secondary 6/29
Letter request 7/2
letters received 7/7
rejected via. e-mail 8/8.

I'm in the same boat. I submitted my fee on June 29th, received a conformation email around the same time, and haven't heard anything since.

wow impressive, wonder why you didn't even qualify for an interview...

The Kahler is the best deal (Mayo will give you a code so it's cheaper), and it's right across the street from Mayo. While I can't guarantee that a student would host you an extra night, I think there is a very high chance you could stay with someone in our class (like me). Our student hosting coordinator should be contacting you at some point to set that up if you're interested. If you want, just book a room in the Kahler in case. You can cancel for a full refund up to the day before. Hope this helps!

I don't understand! My fee was received in June and I have still haven't heard anything. People who submitted wayyy later than me are being rejected, invited, LOR requested.. Im soo confused, shouldn't they have looked my app by now?!?

Don't fret, they've got a ton of applications to review, so they're probably going in no particular order in terms of Fee Requests, LOR invites, etc. If you've sent in your money, when they get to you, they'll request LORs or reject you. As long as you're still in the running, just relax! 🙂

I'm just nervously awaiting my rejection letter pre-interview! 🙁

Same here. My fee was received 6/28, letters requested 7/2, received 7/15. I am still maintaining some hope. Every day I don't get a rejection is almost as good as getting the interview email right?

I'm still waiting for my freakin LOR confirmation.

That's the worst man. Mostly because it's completely out of your hands when your letters arrive. I always felt bad hustling my letter writers too...

Same here. But I am hopeful. Does anyone know when, or if there even is, an appropriate time to call the office of admissions and inquire about the status of your application after they have received the payment? Likwise, is there an appropriate time to contact the office after your file is in review but have not received an interview invite or rejection? I would not want to pester them, but I have heard the admission office at my state school say they want you to stay 'engaged' throughout the process. Thoughts, anyone?

I would suggest against it at Mayo...just give it time...I was early on in the cycle and it took them a week to send me a LOR request, then about another 10 days to receive my LORs...

I would say they're busy and just wait. they'll review it when they review it.
