Does anyone know if they're still giving out interviews this late? I love, love, LOVE Ohio State and don't really know what else to do to get their attention. I don't want to inundate their admissions office, and I've sent an update letter and will be sending final grades soon. I hate just biting the "OSU won't interview you" bullet unless I've tried everything. Any ideas? Or is patience the final virtue?

for the record, i just got an interview invite last friday. i got an email saying there was an update to my status so i logged in and the rest is history. i didn't send in any update letter or LOI.

oos/sub-avg stats/strong ECs/very strong interest in global health.

Congrats 😀

Congrats 😀

yeah i'm pretty surprised O_O especially with my stats. but i'm interviewing on march 3 (i asked for a reschedule though, haha). i'm stoked though because they have a kickass global health program for their med students

ZOMG!!!! Interview invite for March - this is completely unexpected since I'm OOS with a sub-30 MCAT. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Yay! 😀

I second that for the west coast.
Anyone else been freaking out all weekend?

Anybody get a call yet?

The way I figure (which in this case isn't very precise) is that I got the call from Capers for the interview at around 10:30PM CST, so I'm not giving hope yet.

If you look through this thread a lot of people got their calls relatively late...like between 10:30p and 12:30aish

That's a good point. He called me around 9 I think for the interview. And that's Pacific time. I'm trying to play the new donkey kong Wii game. But with my phone in my lap and frequent trips to my laptop, it's not calming me down that much.

Just got the call! Accepted! Good luck everybody else!

haha you guys are funny, and very exciting time indeed! early congrats to those who will get accepted!

WOOHOO! OMG I just got the call. I think I sounded ridiculous though... wow. Good luck guys... Seriously. This is my second application cycle, but it worked out this time. Got the call at 7:15 Pacific time. OOS applicant.

I've never been so relieved to see the word "Blocked" come up on my caller ID.

Good luck everyone.

Congrats dude! This was my second cycle too!

Deferred-Decision pending via update page this morning...

does anyone know if one QUARTER of biochem is enough for the one semester requirement? thaanks.

If you are at all uncomfortable driving in questionable weather, cancel your OSU interview for this week! we can't all be sweet at driving through snow, ice, or in between-ness...but I am! tell them to call me! cool thanks.

I'll try not to! I hate the hands on my clock right now... haha.

futureMD2015: even though I would be ecstatic about getting in, I'd still be a little resentful if I didn't get a call but was actually accepted 😛

Hmmm, I'm kind of thinking that's it...despite the possible late call. Oh well, I figured it wouldn't happen after my interviewer openly criticized my MCAT score and asked me to comment on it lol.

That happened to me too. I wonder if we had the same person? He was like "you know the average MCAT is a 33 here...right...?" As if to be like, what are you even thinking.

I didn't get the call but got the Deferred-Decision pending thing. Though I would love to have been accepted, I can't tell you how much of a relief it was to see that after not getting a call and beating myself up all night about getting rejected.

Med school admissions process is inhumane.

And it makes you wonder why they even invited you for an interview if you're so "inferior" according to their standards. I'd have been especially angry to receive that kind of abuse if I'd taken a couple of days off school and spent $500 to travel halfway across the country for the interview.

That's pretty much my situation. After beating myself for a while (I was deferred btw), I started thinking: Do I want to go to a school that conducts themselves like that? I mean, it may be my mind trying to make myself feel better, but I think that if a school is going to criticize you and be so philosophically inconsistent during interview day (when they are supposed to be trying to impress you), what can someone expect once they're actually a student? Not that I have a choice right now, but if I am excepted I think I'll stick with my other school that was actually respectful to its interviewees...

Really though? Not to be harsh, but maybe you need to buck up and handle difficult questions better. Like it or not many interviews are going to ask you questions that are off setting. What they did is gave you an opportunity to explain why you should still be accepted with your MCAT score being below their average! They offered you an interview so they obviously saw something they liked, take the opportunity and run with it!

Too many of the "bad stories" that I hear about interviews revolve around a student choosing to be offended. Buck up, take it, and use it as an opportunity. My freshman year I had around a 2.0. A 2.0, do you know how often that comes up in an interview? Tons. And rather than getting all hurt thinking "why would they ask me that?" I use it as an opportunity to show how much I have matured since then. Sometimes they ask in a manner such as "your freshman year was really bad, it lowers your overall GPA quite a bit, care to comment?" And rather then going oh no, poor me, I paid $500 and missed two days of school to come here you should only be offering me cookies and milk and telling me how great I am I think "you know what? My GPA is low due to my freshman year, I'm going to use this opportunity to get rid of this problem for this school and explain why they should accept me."

Word to the wise: in the future try and take difficult questions in stride and use them to make yourself more attractive. As much as schools tell you to relax when you are at the interview, keep in mind at least half of those in the conference room with you (many times far more) will not be accepted. You still have to prove you belong in their school no matter how many times they tell you you don't.

You're not being harsh, just incorrect 😛
I have no problem with difficult questions, I've been asked many that were much more difficult during my interviews. I just feel that if a school publicly states that your grades and MCAT are acceptable if you make it to the interview stage (I never said my MCAT was below average by the way...), then they shouldn't badger you about it during the interview. They claim that the interview is to get to know you as a person since they have your stats and ECs on paper, so why even need to bring up a single score from a single day in your life? There are infinite topics to discuss to get to know you as a person and your potential to become a good clinician, and a single set of double digit numbers is not one of them.

Side note: I handled the question just fine actually 🙂 I just knew that my chances were gone the minute I sat down and my interviewer started criticizing my file before asking any meaningful questions.

sorry about the deferment, please understand every school does have poor interviewers every once in a while, I'm sorry you felt that way, and please do not let that alone mar your view on our school. Was everyone else friendly and respectful to you during your visit? I wish you the best on your interview trail!

I got the wonderful call last night! Dr. Capers called me while I was shopping in Target and I'm pretty sure the entire store heard me 😉

Yiipeeee!!

Hey guys!

Does anyone know what is the acceptance rate after the interview?

Thanks!

about 2/3 last year not sure bout this year

For the entering class of 2010 they have down 879 interviewed, 466 accepted, so 53% post interview.

I do believe that the entering class of 2009 did in fact have a bit over 60% post interview so I think you're right about that but they seem to have increased the number of people interviewed last year.
