There is an anatomy requirement correct? I was almost positive there was and then someone told me there were some exceptions, anyone wish to clarify?

Last year, Ohio State added both biochemistry and anatomy as pre-reqs. Biochem is still in place, however, anatomy is back to being "strongly recommended."

Bottom line: you do not need anatomy to matriculate.

Nice thanks, I read that on the website but I wasn't sure if it was an updated version of what they were requiring this year. That makes things a bit easier.

Has anyone who has been Deferred-decision pending for a while, gotten accepted??

Got the call from Dr.Capers around 7:40pm tonight but missed it. He left a lovely voice mail, so excited!! He said that we would see a change on the status tomorrow for anyone else that interviewed last week.

🙂

Just got rejected from here post-interview. I really thought I had a good chance because I was IS from OSU, but I guess the stars didn't align this time. I was soooo excited at the possibility of being able to go here..

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone has recieved a paper acceptance. It's been a while since I was accepted (Oct 16), and I just want to make sure that I didn't get missed for some reason. (I know it's neurotic of me... but I don't really want to loose my spot because this school is one of my top choices). Do they wait for a while to send those out?

Yeah I got accepted same day as you and received/sent out my paper acceptance form about two weeks ago. I wouldn't panic, the deadline to turn it in isnt until May, but I would probably have them resend it.

It seems like a lot of you are hearing back quite quickly after interviews on whether or no you have been accepted (it seems between a week and two weeks). Is it the norm for Ohio State to get back to people so quickly? My interview is coming up soon so I was just wondering. Also, what is the interview like?

I had the same questions, since my interview is coming up in a few weeks, and i found this farther back in the thread:

The OSU interview was really nice! There will be an introduction video to the program and campus, along with guest faculty and student speakers that will be there to welcome you. You'll meet Dr. Quinn Capers IV, who's possibly the most awesome man I've ever met. He also was my interviewer along with a Dr. Hampton: I had a dual-faculty interview which lasted 45 minutes. I also had a Med II student interview which lasted 20 minutes.

Overall, the interviews are very relaxed and conversational. It's open file in both interview sessions, and most of the questions were directed towards myself as a person (so what I like to do on my spare time, hobbies, etc) and my traits as a candidate (they asked about my research works, clinical experience, volunteer experience). So as long as you review your file and understand what you've done, you'll be in good shape for the interview. Be relaxed and be honest, and most importantly, have fun 🙂.

Good luck to everyone else on their interviews!

I also had a similar experience, except my interview was one-on-one with the faculty member and ran about 40 minutes.

for those of you still wondering, they are still handing out interviews. I just received an invitation on Friday and I was scheduled for Feb 9th. I'm assuming there's only a very few more interviews being given, so its about that time to send out interest/update letters.

Tomorrow's the big day! Really hoping for a call :xf::xf::xf:

Good luck to everyone who interviewed last Monday and Weds! :luck::luck::luck::luck::luck:

Wow, just finished up my interview day at OSU and boy was I impressed. Dr. Capers took the time to come around to each applicant, shake our hand, and wish us luck. What a friendly guy. Yes, he's just as friendly as he sounds when he invites you to interview and I can only imagine what he sounds like when he calls offering an acceptance.

I have nothing negative to say about this place...fantastic people, interviewing experience, facilities, and philosophy. (And I even say that being a former Illini student!)

Good luck to people waiting for tonight's calls. I hope I get one next week!

All quiet.

Let's not be sad!

lol this is sdn we're talking about, we're :scared::scared::scared:

Gah, I know! I just want this so bad...I'm really trying not to get my hopes up though, I was honestly floored that I even got an interview.

Doit4themunki, wherever you are, let's meet up and drink the night away. That way we can forget about the call!👍

Um..please? I've been having a seizure for like 5 hours straight. And the great thing is...I CAN SEE THE ADMISSIONS OFFICE FROM MY BEDROOM WINDOW.

Stop taunting meeeee

please bring hard liquor and lots of it

LoL, I swear, I can't resist saying it; but some of you fellow SDNers are so damn cute!! (Now imagine that coming from a heavily tattooed, bearded dude originally from the inner city L.A. area--which is me.)

Anyway, keep up the hope ladies and gents. Remember that plenty of seats open up as that inevitable fraction of the upper stratum of applicants accepts elsewhere.

I would love to encourage and cheer you guys up, but send letters of interest now! cause waiting til the waitlist is not a good idea here (I believe ~8ish were accepted off the WL last year.

Thanks for the advice! Question--would you recommend that I literally send a letter this second, or wait like 2 weeks until the quarter is done to send it along with a transcript? Looks like I'll be getting A's this quarter so I think it will help my case ( I hope ).

well you would want to of course want to send update letters when you have improved your application, so I'd wait

At this point I can only send a letter of interest. Don't really know how much of an update I can send :/

If we're still waiting on an invite...is it time for an LOInterest?

Then go ahead and shoot a LOI if you are sincere about wanting to go here, it could never hurt. Best of luck!

Accepted via status change this morning and called from Dean Capers around noon pst! I interviewed mid September and was deferred October. I pretty much lost hope and sent no update letters or anything (not even a thank you letter because I forgot my interviewer's name! 😳 )

This shows they really do go back and look through the deferred list every once in a while!

Gives me hope! Congrats 😀😀

same for me!! a call around noon yesterday and I nearly dropped the sandwich I was eating. I interviewed in september and was deferred in October (I wonder what changed their minds tr8? not that I'm complaining). No update letters either. For those deferred, don't lose hope!! Happy thanksgiving!

I'm sorry for asking such obvious question, but if you were to send in a letter of interest or file update, what is the best way to go about it for OSU?

Got the call from Dr. Capers about a half hour ago (9:30 eastern). Accepted to OSU class of 2015. Good luck everybody!

Yeah I have no idea what happened! I had actually thought my interview went pretty well and was completely bummed back in October. The entire process has been a complete mystery to me, but no complaints here either. =)

Anyone interviewing on the 13th and want to split a hotel room? I asked for a student host but havent heard anything, and with less than two weeks I'm thinking I should make other plans.

reply via pm.

I'm interviewing on the 8th, and I just heard back from my host a couple days ago. I think you should give it a few more days.

Just got a status change email from OSU so I went to check out my first actual rejection... (complete 1 million years ago, below 30 mcat/im not all that special in general) and i found an interview invite! feeling pretty honored and shocked to say the least!

Its not until February 28th...is this basically an interview to be on the waitlist? I interview pretty well, but do I even stand a chance? Any sort of feedback would be appreciated. I just feel so honored that they saw something they liked in my app haha.

First of all, Congrats! I know exactly how you feel...I'm 3.5/29Q so I really wasn't expecting to hear back from OSU at all and I really felt the love when I got an interview. They accept about 50% of their interviewee's so its significantly harder to get an interview there than some schools--you should be proud!

As far as your chances go, of course I'd like to be optimistic since your scores may be similar to mine, but all I can tell you is the impression I got when I interviewed there. Dean Capers tells everyone that if you are there, they've basically accepted you on paper (i.e. your stats etc are sufficient) and you have a seat in the 2011 class, and your interview determines whether you keep or give away that seat. Unfortunately I was deferred after my interview so I'm still waiting...but the fact that I wasn't flat out rejected pre/post interview gives me hope that they really are looking at something other than your stats!

He also told us at the interview to make sure and spread the word that late interviews aren't just for the waitlist--I think the proportion of students they accept may be higher in the earlier interviews but people are still getting accepted right after their interview up until March. One of the current M1s that ate lunch with us told me that he had been accepted with a February interview so that's a good sign too. One thing you can do is call the admissions office and asked to be put on a waitlist for an earlier interview in case anyone drops out--I'm sure the list is long but it couldn't hurt.

I guess in a nutshell, you should be really proud of yourself that there is something in your application that caught their eye and definitely be optimistic about what the outcome could be!! :luck:

+1 👍

(also keep in mind those who get accepted early probably get accepted to other schools as well, so they may not attend)

Thank you so much, I do feel really proud! I spoke with admissions today and she said there would be a very good chance I would be called before my interview date since I only live 2 hours away (and I told her I only need about 3 hours notice haha)...time will tell, thanks for the encouragement 🙂

Yeah...it was funny because my interview was scheduled for Valentines day, and I called to put my name on that list and the lady was like "Its really long so I don't know if there's a point, but there is an opening on monday if you're in the area" (It was friday). I was just like I'LL TAKE IT....I live across the street from the med school lol. It was perfect
