Rumor on the grapevine is that the interview season will be extended til the end of April at OSU (actually I heard it from Dr. Capers directly, last night) -- since they got so many competitive applicants that they want to meet. I wouldn't count yourself out of an interview just yet if you haven't heard anything from them.

Right, my student interviewer said OSU was interviewing into April.
 
For those of you who are waiting for interviews at least they are fast about the decision after your interview.

I was one of the last to be interviewed in my group, and all the interviewers were already aggregating and getting ready to talk about the applicants. And from what Dr. Capers (Associate Dean) said they make decisions that day (accept, defer, or deny). And if you interview on a Monday Or Wednesday, you find out the following Monday. And it's kinda scary when they spend only 2 and a half hours on 16 applicant (~10 mins per applicant)

And if this is one of your top choices nothing beats seeing a restricted number on your cell phone and having Dr. Capers personally congratulate and welcome you to the Buckeye Family.

I hate those type of dreams.

Anyone else interview on the 19th and waiting for a call or have already received one?

EDIT: 10:07 EST and still waiting...

wow, did anyone get the call last night? slash, have they stopped interviewing people for the class and are now just interviewing for the waitlist?

I just interviewed yesterday, and this does not bode well for me when Dr. Capers calls people next monday.

No call here, just a deferred status :\.

Maybe your interview group will have more luck? Depends on the AdCom's mood (coupled with the quality of the applicants, of course), I think, as sometimes they will only take a couple students, or sometimes they'll take almost all of them.

sorry bout the deferment guys, but have hope! remember OSU accepts almost twice as much as matriculants
 
Guess I'll have to start writing an LoI and update letter. Not that I have much to update.

This sucks, and now I'm really disturbed about my student interviewer who outright told me "I obviously didn't read your application in any detail." Why volunteer to be on the committee if you're not gonna put forth the effort when I drive 9 hours to come interview?

He did say some of us would be accepted, so someone's getting a call from our group. I'm sure they're accepting; he seemed so upbeat.


Also a note to future interviewees: There is no coffee/pastry in the morning, so if you are dependent on caffeine (like me) drink some in advance.
 
My interview isn't for another month and a half (March 14), is there any way of knowing whether or not there will still be spots open when I get to my interview? Or will I know for certain that they are interviewing strictly for the wait list?

When I interviewed Dr. Capers told us they NEVER interview strictly for the waitlist...it just may be that you are competing for less spots or whatever.
 
Thanks munki, I was slightly concerned interviewing so late in the cycle but I guess i'll just have to take care of business at the interview and cross my fingers

I sent one to that address at the beginning on this month and I received an email confirming my letter. Took a couple days I believe
 
For letters of interest, is it better to type it up and attach the letter, or just write it directly in the email? Should I include updated transcripts as well? Faxing? I dunno what to do...

Call and ask; the admissions office at OSU is one of the friendliest I've contacted.
 
Interviewing soon. Can someone recommend a hotel? One that offers a shuttle service to the school would be awesome. Thanks!
 
Check out hotels on Olentangy River Road. The closest may offer a shuttle, I don't know. The Blackwell Inn is pretty pricey, but I know for a fact there's a bus stop in front of it for a campus bus that will take you to another stop right in front of the medical school (Meiling Hall). The CABS (campus area bus service) buses are free for everyone.

A lot of people do varsity inn, there aren't too many hotels around the campus area. But have you tried getting with a student host? I always recommend that bc you learn a lot about the realities of the school you may not otherwise know just from interview day (Plus you never know if a host would somehow know your interviewers and put in a good word for ya, not saying it's gonna happen but always a chance)
 
Deciding between this and Jeff. Will definitely be attending the second look! Hope I see some of you guys there.
 
Second on the student host, in general.
I stayed at the red roof inn on campus. It was close to the OSU shuttle stop to the med center and it was super cheap, which is why I stayed there.
 
TOMORROW IS THE DAY for people who interviewed on 01/24. I am so anxious... actually feeling ill...

when is 2nd look?

you get a tour of pretty much everything around, and even columbus, get to eat lots of good food, a few really good talks and pretty much meet a large number of your future classmates, def a good time, and I'd recommend coming in to town the night before too!

It's April 8th and 9th. Any thoughts on whether it's worthwhile to stay at the hotel if I live right around campus (& go here for undergrad)? I don't want to be wasting OSU's money but I feel like there might be some chit-chatting and bonding at the hotel if they have a block for everyone, and I wouldn't want to miss out.

I'm not sure if you are allowed to stay at a hotel if you are from the area? I would ask them though.
So med 1's are still on vacation then, so you will be seeing a lot of med 2s

OMG just got the call from Dean Capers 10:15 EST!!!! 34R, 3.7, OOS SO EXCITED! I absolutely loved this school!
