Does anybody know if scholarships are given out based on academics (ie. GPA)?

Any new invites from this school? Or are they done for the holidays?

I have been small pooled for two or three months. I have my fingers crossed. when do they start taking a lot of people off the small pool?

Interview invite Dec 16!!! Best Christmas present ever! 😀 I was shocked out of my mind, given that I had so much going against me- a not so stellar GPA (3.2) an average MCAT, being Canadian (as you can tell by my username) and applying late (I was complete in the first week of December). However, what I feel I had going for me was my experience in, and passion for research. I have a masters in which I have a 4.0 GPA and 2-3 publications (1 in the making). I am passionate about all realms of medicine, from clinical practice to research, and am truly inspired to pursue a career as a clinician-scientist and I really feel RFU is a great fit for me given their dedication to research and discovery. I also have lots of varied ECs and with all of this, I really think it was my personal and academic maturity that helped me get this interview. I am really grateful to the CMS admissions committee who truly have a holistic approach in evaluating their applicants (I am a prime example and testament to this). So anyways, this long shpiel is just to let everyone know that everything and anything is possible!

What is a bit strange is that I wasn't small-pooled or anything. I received a direct interview invite about a week after I was complete. My interview is scheduled for Jan 28 and I'm excited and nervous at the same time since this is my first interview at a U.S. school! I've read through the threads and it seems that the interview is a pretty good experience. I'm preparing to answer the basics i.e. tell me about yourself, why medicine, your research, explain some of your crappy grades, etc. However, I also want to brush up on my knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system and be prepared to answer questions about the Canadian system and how they are similar/different.

I'm wondering if there's anything else I should focus on. Also, I'm not clear on whether the interview is open, semi-closed or closed file. Any interview tips and any other help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and looking forward to visiting CMS 🙂

The interview is semi open, meaning they only have your essays and ECs and not your GPA and MCAT. You will have two 30 minutes interview with either faculties or M4. The day was quite relaxing for me and there's quite a lot of downtime that you can mingle with other interviewees. Good luck!

Small pooled since August with no news 🙁

Declined my acceptance today, hopefully opening a spot for one of you that has been patiently waiting...good luck!

Congrats on having a choice for med school, since I'm assuming that's why you're declining your acceptance 🙂 which school did you decide to attend?

Thanks! I reserved a seat at Rush and IUSM -- leaning more toward IU, though! Best of luck!

Just got into the small pool after months as follows:

I'm in the same boat...we'll hear back either the 10th or the 17th (but I'm leaning towards the 17th). We usually hear back on a Monday! I know this from following trends of previous months and such.

Good luck to us!

Supposedly not. Anyone else want to confirm? I'd love to update them.

Jeez, this pool is getting packed.

I checked my spreadsheet. Called up every school I applied to a few months back to see if they accept updates. Rosalind only accepts post-interview updates (if I get a change to interview, I'll have a lot to updates to talk about!) Anyway, I hope my answer on "Life in Discovery" will get me through to the next round. :xf:

Does anybody know when the last time they sent interview invitations was? Or how frequently they send them?

I was small pooled on 12/28/10 after being complete on 10/13 and entering primary screening on 11/5 for anybody interested.

ha guys not to be a debbie downer, but I'm guessing the "pool" is pretty big and not sure how legit it is. honestly not sure what to expect out of it. I've been pooled for a few months so far, I'm not really sure what to make of it.

Hey guys, good luck to everyone here, pooled or not!

Thanks dragon529 for answering my question regarding the nature and format of the interview, greatly appreciated!

I actually have a question in regards to the final evaluation of applicants post-interview. How much weight does the interview carry in the final decision? Does the selections committee go back to each file and review it again along with the interview, or is the interview score just added onto the 'file score', if such a thing exists. I get the feeling that CMS is a lot more holistic in its approach and therefore may not have a hardcore scoring technique. If this is the case, then how are final decisions made and how does the interview factor in? Regardless of how decisions are made, I'm sure the interview is definitely one of the most important factors of our file so I'm hoping it goes well.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Didn't someone look at last year's thread and it turned out that ~40% of small pooled people got interview invites? It could very well have been sampling error, but everyone here is complaining about the pool while last year it didn't seem like a bad thing.

It's not really complaining on our parts, it's more like the pool is probably pretty big ergo the possibility of an individual attaining an interview invite may not be great especially at this point in time.

Do students at Rosalind Franklin get lockers? I forgot to ask on my tour.

I know it's silly but such things are important to me haha.

small pooooled! complete 10/7, entered primary screening 11/5

I guess it's not really much reason for excitement, but I haven't been hearing any sort of news from colleges recently, and at least I haven't been rejected yet!

For those who have gotten interview invites recently, when are you scheduled to go? I want to get an idea of how far they're booked, and how many slots might be left.

You may have noticed a whole bunch of lockers downstairs near the gym and clinical skills labs. You don't get one automatically, so it's best to reserve one early in the summer before they're all taken.

And of course you get a locker for anatomy lab, but I can't imagine you'd want to keep anything besides disgusting anatomy clothes in there.

Oh thanks! Does it take money to get a locker? How many are there/what portion of the class is usually without one?

Thanks

You're welcome.
Nope, it's free.
I dunno, hundreds? I think mine is in the 700's. But remember CMS is not the only school on the RFUMS campus/I have no idea. If you ask early enough, you can get one.

What do you guys think? Will decisions come out Monday the 10th or Monday the 17th? Anyone have a credible source as to when the adcom meets?

I know RFU doesn't accept update letters, but would they respond to a letter of interest or something? I have several things I'd like to add to my app since I turned in my primary, and I think they would help me. But I feel like if they don't know how much I really like the school and my app looks pretty average, then I won't have much chance for an interview.

I sent one. LOI along with updated grades. I worked too hard this semester and have been sitting in the pool for too long to just hang out with no response. If they throw it away, so be it.

What email address did u send the letter to? I tried sending one and said the email address was invalid.

Nothing yet from Rosalind Franklin. This whole waiting thing is so nerve wracking!

Congrats! did they notify you via email or snail mail?

What is a small pool? How do you know you are in it?😕

besides being wet, you will get an email that contains the following:

"Your file is complete and has passed a primary screening. This means you are in the pool of applicants who may be invited to interview with CMS."
