am i interviewing here for the waitlist if my interview is in early march?

Does Stanford reject anyone post-interview or is everyone who isn't accepted placed on the waitlist?

No, I don't think so-- they must be interested in interviewing more students since they opened up additional dates. Good luck! 🙂

Or they could be getting more practice in for the MMIs hahah

Congratulations!! I'm super jealous! 😛

How did you know how many interview days Stanford held in order to calculate your expected day? Do they have a calendar somewhere?

Ah, I used both the information on SDN and the dates that other applicants at other interviews had said they were interviewing at Stanford to piece together the timeline. If you call up the admissions office and ask them directly, they might just give you a list of the dates. I doubt it's a closely-guarded secret, as many med schools publish the dates of their interviews directly online...

But man. At a rate of 1 interview day per week, they won't be at 2/5 for quite some time! O.O

MD East, or anyone else,
Happen to know if they are still sending out invites to interview? How many more dates will there be in March (Since we know it is likely to run through March).

THANKS!!

🙂

Stanford has rejected post-interview in the past.

Would anyone happen to know how deep the waitlist is at Stanford?

I got early-waitlisted for the MD (super sucks 🙁) after attending the second MSTP interview day. I'm really just holding my breath hoping I get off the waitlist so I can continue to move into consideration for the MSTP.

There was actually someone else on the boards with that same problem--making the MSTP cutoff and not the MD. I was actually in the opposite group, where the med school liked me but the MSTP didn't 🙁. haha

I bet you could call the office to get more information about the waitlist. It may even reaffirm your interest in the school.

My mom called me the other day saying "I have some bad news" I immediately knew I got a rejection letter in the mail from Stanford. Indeed I was right. BOOOOOO!
:luck: to everyone else! It's better to interview on the last day than not to interview at all

So you applied MSTP, got rejected, but invited to the MD program and got in as a straight MD?

You're right up untilt he acceptance part. My interview date hasn't been notified of acceptances yet. Still got a couple of weeks left. I've got my fingers crossed though :xf:

Does anyone know if a facebook group has been made for accepted students yet?

Some people were talking about making one earlier. It will most likely be something like "Stanford medical school entering class of 2011" because nobody every graduates in 4 years there

Does anyone know how many interview dates were between 1/12 and 1/22?

Ok I just made a facebook group: Stanford Medical School Entering Class of 2011. Right now it's an open group!

got the call today! 🙂 interviewed 1/22. so so happy right now! good luck to everyone still waiting!

Congrats! I'm happy to see that they're at 1/22. I should be hearing back sooner than I thought! 😀

Are they still doling out interviews? I've been complete since late August and haven't heard anything, and it seems like people who've been complete around my time have heard back according to this thread...

I am in your exact same situation.... no clue how many or if there are still interviews to be given out! If anyone has this information, that would be great! 😍

A current medical student mentioned at the beginning of the month that he/she was pretty certain that they added days in March. I would seriously consider calling them though if you haven't heard anything at all. But that's just me.

I know that they have an interview on March 12th. I am not sure if that is the last one though or whether they are done sending out invites.

There's one more interview day in mid-March (about 2 weeks from now). I'm pretty sure this is the last day and I have no idea if they are still inviting people for it. Again, if you haven't been rejected it means your application is still in active consideration. For anyone who is interviewing then, sorry if you don't get to meet too many students (it's during our finals week and we'll be stressed). If you haven't heard anything and don't over the next 2 weeks, assume you won't be getting an interview. The following week is Spring Break, and early April is admit weekend....and I don't think the admissions office even has the budget to run another MMI day.

At Stanford you're generally thought of as "Entering Class of...", just because this is a better indicator of your year as many students take extra time (MD/PhD, extra degrees, research year) to finish their medical education. Your class would otherwise have to be called the Class of 2015,2016, 2017, etc. because of how varied it will be for how long it takes everyone to finish, so it's easier to just say "entering class of...."

Good luck!

So when are the bulk of decisions coming?

So when are the bulk of decisions coming?

They appear to be trickling out in order of the interview. I would guess that they are simply picking the best of the best from each day.

I understand that there is a lot of variability from year to year, but does anyone have an idea about what percentage of waitlisted applicants are typically accepted? Should waitlisted applicants be very hopeful at this point?

Mdeast, do you have any suggestions for waitlisted applicants?

Another week passes, and I eagerly await to hear what interview date we're on! Soooo close!

Has anyone from the 1/25 interviewing group heard back either way?

Ahh.. good point! I too, plan to be extending my visit.

Hi!

anyone (mdeast?) have any recommendations for 1st year housing? escondido village seems to be the most affordable, but is there good reason for that?

also, many of the current students i met at my interview seemed like they knew other incoming students from undergrad... do many people end up living with people they know? is there a good way to find a roommate coming in not knowing anyone?

lastly, do most students live on campus or off their first year?

I suppose I could wait to ask these questions during admit weekend, but it seems like the forms and emails i've received are warning me to look into housing as soon as possible...

any advice would be much appreciated! many thanks!!

I have a missed call from an "unavailable" number. Is it so bad that I am daydreaming it was Stanford? 😛

Housing mainly depends on you. You'll pay extra for more comfort, and less for a smaller room, older building, etc. Most students in my class did not come in with the intention of living with other first year students. We had a bunch of first years placed sort of randomly together (mainly because we arrive earlier than many other graduate students, so it makes move-in logistics easier for the housing department if they place some of us together). If you meet someone during admit weekend, or have a friend from pre-med school life that also ends up at Stanford, you can apply jointly to live together. Just make sure to get your application in before the deadline (sometime in early May? I think). Otherwise you won't necessarily be guaranteed on campus housing.

Most med students live on campus the first year. I recommend it if you're not used to Palo Alto/Stanford and need time to adjust, or just want a better reason to make sure you're on campus for social events, etc.. It makes life easier when you only have a 5 minute commute everyday to class on your bike. The majority (all but maybe 10-20 first year students) live on campus. That number drops slightly second year, and more sharply your third year once people get busy in clinic and want some "off campus" haven to call home.

Your options first year (prices are guessed). In order of distance to the medical school EV=EV Studios=Rains > Munger > Lyman. With Lyman being the closest.

Escondido Village: Older apartments, in various (sometimes somewhat bizarre) styles. Some of them look like summer camp lodges (low rises). Others like small, two story town houses. There are also mid and high-rise apartments. Price generally $600-900. The $600 apartments have you potentially sharing a room, which for me was a big no-no. EV also has couples housing. Range from 1 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms, 3 bedrooms, 4 bedrooms.

Rains: Newer than EV. Fair amount of social activities go on here. 2 or 4 bedroom apartments with shared kitchen/living area. 900/month. I think I'd be happy living there.

Lyman: Closest on campus housing to the medical school. "Dorm Style" apartments. These are apartments, but hallways look a bit "dormy" which is why I make that distinction. Thought, admittedly....pretty nice with good central common spaces for holding parties. Usually 2 bedrooms with shared kitchen, living room. Next to tennis courts, open fields, etc. $900/month

EV Studios: Newer than the rest of EV. Large buildings with separate studio apartments for each person. Decently sized. About $1100/month. Full size beds=nice. Clinical students sometimes live here to avoid pricier options off campus...lots of alone time when you need it.

Munger: I live here. It's the best housing on campus, but also the priciest. Just opened up a year or two ago, so everything is brand-new. It's also one of the few places outside of couples housing with full/queen beds. Most apartments are 4 bedroom with large shared kitchen and living room. There are also 2 bedrooms and studios. Private bathrooms in each room (no sharing). Centrally located. New furniture. Feels like a hotel. Lots of parties here. 4 or 2 bedrooms: $1200/month, Studio: $1500/month. There are a select number of 1 BR couples housing here too. Don't know how much they cost.

You'll be fine whenever you end up. And, the somewhat unknown thing about housing is that if you don't get what you want first quarter...you can apply for re-assignment housing and usually have a decent chance of getting what you want the second time around.

You know, 1/22 was last week. There is a good chance that 1/25 could hear back today! :luck::xf:

I got the call today! Afternoon pacific time. Interviewed on 1/25. Good luck everyone! 😍😍😍😍

Congratulations! That's incredible! 😀 Stanford is a great school from what I can tell. I've been watching this page like a hawk hoping to narrow down when I'll be hearing from them. Hoping for a phone call instead of a letter. :xf:

Is it true that they call accepted applicants who were interviewed on the same day together? =( I interviewed on 1/25 as well.. I guess I am just waiting for an envelope in the mail now!
