Sorry about the rejections, Guju and Bpost. I hope you get in somewhere, you both seem to deserve it.

I'm still on hold at Upstate. No new emails, and the banner site has no new information. Has anyone received an invite after being placed on pre-interview hold?
 
I never knew upstate was so tough with their interviews. a friend of mine with a 33 mcat and ~mid 3s from Ivy league school in NY got put on hold as well.. i was really surprised.

I know of other people with like stats with similar results. I'm surprised because when I applied last year I had a weak overall application but very high MCAT/GPA and got the invite, and I know of other people with similar stats yet poor fit that got the invite. Even their website indicates that invitations are primarily done on the basis of MCAT/GPA. Perhaps they are shifting towards making their invitations on a more holistic basis?

I applied this year and last year with the exact same stats. Straight rejected last year, interview and accepted this year. So maybe they do place more emphasis on the rest of the app this time?
 
Hey I am on pre-interview hold as well. Stats: cGPA: 3.92, sGPA: 3.93 and 36R (14,9,13). I am Canadian though. What do you do to get off this pre-interview hold? Is it more or less a silent death of application? Are they pretty full by this time?

Honestly a New yorker like yourself deserves it more. I'm not too surprised. And its ok cuz it wasn't one of my state schools or a few other schools. I do feel it would be a seat better deserved by a proper in state New Yorker as a New York state school. Someone who is from the upstate part of New York whether buffalo or syracuse. so I'm not soooooo overly sad. Still I figured I'd try because i did know people in my ugrad days who interviewed here.

I'm praying you and Prateek get good news and that you get in your numero uno. I did have an interview as did Bpost.

Hopefully our home states show some in state loving as does hopefully NY show you some home state loving. Let's pray our states love us. 🙂

That's a good outlook. Don't let the rejections get to you. I'm sure you will hear from one of your state schools really soon. 🙂

Nothing wrong with applying to the SUNYs though, as they do seem to take a decent number of OOS students. It's not like applying to a California school, where an out-of-stater has virtually no chance.

I'm just hoping to hear anything at all from any of the schools I'm waiting for. All of this silence is really getting to me.
 
Just got the acceptance email. It claims a package is in coming via snailmail. Question: Do we get to see all the financial aid packages? I got accepted to SUNY-D, SUNY-U, and Temple. I don't want to make a choice without seeing the loan/grant ratios.

So looks like the preinterview rejections that are meant to be sent in fall are being sent out.

withdrew from one and rejected from 2 (buffalo and upstate) which were both ironically upstate NY schools. lol.

Prateek, I'm praying you are not rejected pre interview with your stats you def. deserve the chance to be looked at longer and possibly get an interview. 🙂

Damn 🙁 That sucks I'm sorry Guju, I hope the other NY schools give you a chance to interview. I still haven't heard from Upstate but it's like I'm just clinging on now with all these rejections. Supposedly, they're a bit ruthless with the Canadian applicants this year. Thanks for the wishes 🙂

Sorry to hear about the rejection doc 🙁. But don't worry about it.. im sure you'll get some IS love from Florida. You sound like a nice person... and your persistence will be justly rewarded!

After all... we Indians are destined to become doctors :laugh:
 
Would it be wise to send a letter of interest / fall transcript if I'm on pre-interview hold? I'm still a bit unsure of the whole update thing.

Should I send my fall grades (lets hope I didn't bomb my final today) to every school I applied to?

You definitely should (assuming you did well)!! There really is no harm in sending one.
 
Does anyone know how long it took to receive a letter in the mail after seeing their status as 'Decision Made'?
 
Hi all,

I am accepted for fall 2011 entrance.

I just found out that I got a C+ in my inorganic chemistry class which is one of my chem major courses. I also got several B-s, so my GPA for this fall is way below 3.0. Do you think this will be a problem? I haven't had a chance to get the package yet, so I don't know the detailed policy about the minimum GPA requirements for accepted students.

Can anyone enlighten me?

My opinion (which is not based on any source, so take it with a grain of salt) is that you don't have to worry. I just looked at the acceptance packet and they require a 'C' or better for any of the pre-reqs, so you cleared that. You will have to send an updated transcript after you graduate but I'm unaware of people losing an acceptance due to mediocre grades.

Yes, me. I was accepted. Ethically you should send this letter only to your top choice. If that's Upstate, tell them.

That makes sense. My top choice is SUNY at Buffalo, where I am currently on the waitlist. I will be sending them an update letter shortly.

Been 3 weeks and counting for me. If I didn't have such a memorable interview I would have completely forgotten about the school by now.

talked to adm. office today and they said decisions would be released next week so maybe before the new year we'll find out
 
im post-interview and noticed that my status changed to decision made christmas eve but i dont know what that decision is yet..:scared:
 
interviewing january fifth... nervous! just working on the pre0interview essays now and I'm kind of having a tough time with the first question. when it says four major interests... what type of interest are we talkin here?

anyone have any opinions?

Just do the best you can, and that's good enough. You have an acceptance at a very similar (and in my biased opinion, slightly better) school, so no worries. In your essay, include activities you are genuinely interested in, and how they relate to your underlying passion for medicine.

Where are you guys seeing the status updates on banner? I was complete 10/8, preinterview hold as of 11/30 so I'm checking for the ominous decision made but I don't see where it would be.

I clicked on the "Fall 2011" blue colored link. Another webpage appears with the Application summary, including a status.

If you click on your current application, your status page will pop up and you will see a row for status. The fact that mine says decision made is killing me right now.
 
Also, I'm sooooo worried because the decision on my app was already made towards the end of last week, but I still don't know what that decision is, and when I call the office, they say that I have to wait until next week. If it was an acceptance or waitlist, I would imagine that they would want to tell me right away 🙁

Are there any interviewees from mid-November who weren't told their decision yet?

I interviewed mid December and had the decision made update a wk later but have heard nothing since. I'm trying to be patient but the waiting is torture.
 
I see the app summary but nothing's in the status column, not even that I'm on pre-interview hold which I got an email telling me about awhile ago.. oh well

Same thing here. Got the pre-interview hold email on the same day, and don't see anything resembling a status on the banner page.

I think you're looking at the right place so it's not that there's another status update webpage. As long as you don't see "decision made" for the status, it should mean that you're still on hold.

They don't necessarily have to be activities. I literally spoke about my interests (ie, Community Education-I talked about my Comm Ed officer position for my college's EMS squad, then tied it in with TA positions and a clinic volunteer experience) and for another I actually talked about my major (Physiology). So if you're running out of extracurriculars, it's probably better for you to discuss a hobby rather than that pre-med group you attend once a month..you get the idea. I got accepted too, so it's not a terrible idea. They just want to get to know who you are as a person, and what makes you 'tick'

Mid-November? I interviewed in mid-October and haven't been told what the admissions decision is. SUNY Upstate does not have a good handle on things.

I also interviewed mid-october and have been waiting on this "decision made" for quite a while. I hope this isn't a kiss of death...
 
Nevermind...just got acceptance e-mail! So excited, really loved this school.

Hi! Congrats to everyone who has been accepted! I am a sophomore in college and very interested in Upstate and I am hoping to apply Early Assurance. Has the Early Assurance program changed in any way? Since I have a break now I want to get started on my application and was wondering if there is an essay required in addition to the personal statement. Also, is there anything I can do now in connection with my application since once I return to school I won't have this kind of free time. Thank you 🙂
 
Yeah me too! I got an interview invite yesterday.

Previously on pre-interview hold.
