Just got mine too. Didn't realize we were going to be required to have health insurance. Wonder how much that's going to cost?

Yeah, all med schools usually require it, and even when I was in graduate school they required insurance... Sucks... It shouldn't be more than $1200 a year just for you, but adding family will be quite expensive. It's really not too bad at all.

You could join the military. They'll give you pretty awesome health insurance and enough money to pay for tuition and everything.

Man, this thread is quiiiiieeeet. Anyone hear news of waitlist movement?

I'm guessing they've all been given out since there hasn't been a peep about it since those last few were notified just after the match.

WHAT?!?! I was counting on a scholarship...

I thought they waited until they had your completed FAFSA to hand out scholarships?

And perhaps they do with need-based scholarships, but like the previous poster, I believe all the merit/academic-based scholarships are gone.

You're right. Just e-mailed admissions, they told me that all of the scholarships have been awarded.

🙁

Does anyone happen to know if they overfilled this class too? I keep hearing of schools that are overfilled this round (Texas A&M, TTU Lubbock). I'm just wondering because of the wait list. It doesn't help that you can't give any supplemental documentation to this school either...

I asked the dean of admissions via phone and he said you can send stuff, but it won't get read... He told me that they use the list they submit to TMDSAS unlike some other schools that do away with thier rank lists.

Even though I'd love to plead my case, that honestly sounds like the fairest thing to me.

They didn't happen to say anything about releasing your ranking on the list, did they?

Unfortunately not... I left a voicemail with an admissions persons about a month ago to go over my app but she never called me back. I hope there is news soon from there. I wish they would take updates.

I don't think they overfilled this class, because some individuals including myself were matched in Feb.

I believe overfilling normally occurs due to over acceptances from the pre-match offers.

Ya, that's not to bad. My other half just graduated with an Architecture degree so hopefully she'll be able to find a job in El Paso and we'll get insurance through her work. If not though, we'll probably go this route for myself and just have Chip for our son-to-be. Anyhow, we're still pulling for you in El Paso! Good luck Noshie, wherever you end up.

I hope she finds something! Even if it is just for the insurance, it would be worth it. Thanks for the good vibes... 🙂 I honestly still have no idea where I will end up. Trying to keep busy and not think about it... I still have an interview coming up at the end of the month, so there could be a major plot twist coming soon. I hope! 🙄

You'll have to share a photo of that cute baby when it comes! 😉

To anyone hoping to make it in off the waitlist, my request for deferment went through this morning, so that means there's at least one open spot ready for the taking 🙂 Good luck to you!

Well, unless they're taking their sweet time, it doesn't look like it's going to me. OY! Will the person it went to please post so we can at least congratulate them??

I suppose they will be calling me any minute now hehe

Does anyone know when El Paso waitlist moved last year or how many ppl got accepted off the waitlist?

Not sure but you can bring up the thread from 2009-2010; I think I remember people getting in off the waitlist on there.

The thread from 2009-2010 stopped in mid-February after match... I wish I knew how many got in off the waitlist here too. I haven't been able to find much information on it anywhere, so if anyone knows, please share! 😀

Well, the other issue is that the class size has expanded since last year, so it might be hard to gauge waitlist movement anyhow.

I noticed this as well and also hope that someone has related info.

Also, and I don't know if this is just me being pessimistic, but I have this horrible feeling that this whole A&M situation is going to have an affect on all Texas state medical school admissions. I have a feeling that people who matched to A&M, but had prematches elsewhere, are going to push those of us on waitlists out after pleading with adcoms to readmit them. Is this fair? I mean, my gut reaction is 'You're an adult. You made a decision. Live with it.' Anyone else have this feeling too?

just fyi, A&M actually expanded its class size to 200 from 170 to accommodate the extra students and today notified us that no one will be forcibly deferred to next year. Our class size now stands at 204 and there's no longer a problem with extra students. So I don't think y'all will be affected now.

I heard this too! That is great news... But... You have to realize that some of the schools (Tech in Lubbock being one of them) has extended offers to A&M people already, outside the match and outside of the waitlist. From what I have seen on here, everyone that got these acceptances declined. But who knows how many people actually took this offer. Glad it’s all over though! And I am very happy for you guys not having to defer! 🙂

Hey guys! Congrats to everyone who will be here next year, most of the MS1s are pretty excited to have a new class coming in!!

I just wanted to comment about the wait list... I was wait listed last year so I know how it feels to not know what's going on or what you'll be doing next year...

So to anyone who is really hoping to get in off the wait list, you still might have a chance! I know at least three people (myself included) that got in off the wait list in late May into June...

Of course this was last year and things might be different this year so sorry if this adds false hope but just wanted to let you guys know!

Noshie, that was my point exactly. From what was posted, about 250 people were offered admissions to A&M, which is 80 poeple more than the allowed class size. If 204 people are now in their class and no one is going to be forcibly deferred, that means probably around 45-50 people were accepted to programs other than A&M outside of the match, outside of the waitlist. YAY fairness!:claps:

actually half of those ~50 people voluntarily deferred to 2012 in favor of a scholarship/admission to a grad program leaving ~25 to go to other schools which is actually a normal amount of attrition by this time...not defending A&M in any way bc I've contributed my own share of criticism. Yep, this admissions process has some huge faults that need to be remedied. Good luck to y'all 🙂

Since we're all still waiting so patiently...
:wow: +pad+ :bullcrap: :boom:

I thought these were kinda cool. LOL. Obviously I'm a newbie when it comes to emticons. :d

:hijacked:

😀...in the meantime you guys should join the facebook group. I just stumbled upon it. Just search Paul L. Foster 2015......

Here comes the waitlist movement.

Should be one spot opening up soon. I'm staying in Houston.

I'm not too sure how much wait list movement there will be here this year. Supposedly, even with those of you getting accepted elsewhere, the class is still full at this time.

Could you elaborate a little, ApeMcDoug10? Did admissions tell you that?

Thanks!

You never know, don't lose hope. Prepare to apply again, as early as possible, but you never know. I've heard of people getting in just before classes started.

:luck:

What did they say exactly?

She told me that they have seen a few of their students "drop" (go to other school etc) but at this time they are still full. She said this was because the class was slightly overfilled to buffer those that would get pulled off wait lists or take offers from OOS schools. She said that they may have to use the wait list a little later. That's what she told me... here's hoping for both of us:luck:

Well that sounds positive at least, I'm pulling for you bigtruckguy. I was pulling for Noshie but she doesn't have "please take me" written next to Foster in her signature. (Lubbock, really?) 😉

Haha, I just recently visited El Paso to start apartment hunting and kept thinking about how happy I was that I was moving to a really nice city with plenty of shopping, restaurants, and pretty scenery. I didn't get to see any of that when I interviewed, probably like most people. All I saw was the east side, which is older and not as attractive in most places. If only I had known then what I know now, it probably wouldn't have been much of a contest in terms of quality of living situation and would have made making my match list a lot easier. Lubbock is fine too (really nice people, area around TTU is nice, and I enjoyed my interview there), but let's just say that I'm really, really happy that the match went the way it did for me. 😍

I am REALLY excited about living somewhere that isn't flat for the first time... Haha.

I am going to change it right now! 🙂 Haha. I want to go to El Paso just as bad as I want to go to Lubbock... I love the extensive Spanish program they have there, and the students are awesome! Plus, authentic Mexican food! Yes!!! 😀

Then why does the frowny-face by Lubbock shedding an endless supply of tears and the one by El Paso isn't!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Wow, you guys are observant! 🙄 And hilarious... Don’t worry, I am shedding an endless supply of tears in real life for El Paso. <-- See! If they don’t take me soon I am going to have a tantrum and make a scene.
