Just got mine too. Didn't realize we were going to be required to have health insurance. Wonder how much that's going to cost?

Man, this thread is quiiiiieeeet. Anyone hear news of waitlist movement?
I'm guessing they've all been given out since there hasn't been a peep about it since those last few were notified just after the match.
WHAT?!?! I was counting on a scholarship...
I thought they waited until they had your completed FAFSA to hand out scholarships?
And perhaps they do with need-based scholarships, but like the previous poster, I believe all the merit/academic-based scholarships are gone.
Who said you can't? I think some people on here mentioned that they sent update letters. It doesn't help that you can't give any supplemental documentation to this school either...
Even though I'd love to plead my case, that honestly sounds like the fairest thing to me.I asked the dean of admissions via phone and he said you can send stuff, but it won't get read... He told me that they use the list they submit to TMDSAS unlike some other schools that do away with thier rank lists.
Does anyone happen to know if they overfilled this class too? I keep hearing of schools that are overfilled this round (Texas A&M, TTU Lubbock). I'm just wondering because of the wait list. It doesn't help that you can't give any supplemental documentation to this school either...
Yeah, all med schools usually require it, and even when I was in graduate school they required insurance... Sucks... It shouldnt be more than $1200 a year just for you, but adding family will be quite expensive. It's really not too bad at all.
Ya, that's not to bad. My other half just graduated with an Architecture degree so hopefully she'll be able to find a job in El Paso and we'll get insurance through her work. If not though, we'll probably go this route for myself and just have Chip for our son-to-be. Anyhow, we're still pulling for you in El Paso! Good luck Noshie, wherever you end up.
To anyone hoping to make it in off the waitlist, my request for deferment went through this morning, so that means there's at least one open spot ready for the taking 🙂 Good luck to you!

The thread from 2009-2010 stopped in mid-February after match... I wish I knew how many got in off the waitlist here too. I haven't been able to find much information on it anywhere, so if anyone knows, please share! 😀
just fyi, A&M actually expanded its class size to 200 from 170 to accommodate the extra students and today notified us that no one will be forcibly deferred to next year. Our class size now stands at 204 and there's no longer a problem with extra students. So I don't think y'all will be affected now.I noticed this as well and also hope that someone has related info.
Also, and I don't know if this is just me being pessimistic, but I have this horrible feeling that this whole A&M situation is going to have an affect on all Texas state medical school admissions. I have a feeling that people who matched to A&M, but had prematches elsewhere, are going to push those of us on waitlists out after pleading with adcoms to readmit them. Is this fair? I mean, my gut reaction is 'You're an adult. You made a decision. Live with it.' Anyone else have this feeling too?

Hey guys! Congrats to everyone who will be here next year, most of the MS1s are pretty excited to have a new class coming in!!
I just wanted to comment about the wait list... I was wait listed last year so I know how it feels to not know what's going on or what you'll be doing next year...
So to anyone who is really hoping to get in off the wait list, you still might have a chance! I know at least three people (myself included) that got in off the wait list in late May into June...
Of course this was last year and things might be different this year so sorry if this adds false hope but just wanted to let you guys know!
I heard this too! That is great news... But... You have to realize that some of the schools (Tech in Lubbock being one of them) has extended offers to A&M people already, outside the match and outside of the waitlist. From what I have seen on here, everyone that got these acceptances declined. But who knows how many people actually took this offer. Glad its all over though! And I am very happy for you guys not having to defer! 🙂
actually half of those ~50 people voluntarily deferred to 2012 in favor of a scholarship/admission to a grad program leaving ~25 to go to other schools which is actually a normal amount of attrition by this time...not defending A&M in any way bc I've contributed my own share of criticism. Yep, this admissions process has some huge faults that need to be remedied. Good luck to y'all 🙂Noshie, that was my point exactly. From what was posted, about 250 people were offered admissions to A&M, which is 80 poeple more than the allowed class size. If 204 people are now in their class and no one is going to be forcibly deferred, that means probably around 45-50 people were accepted to programs other than A&M outside of the match, outside of the waitlist. YAY fairness!![]()
Don't know if it makes sense to say this, but thanks. Here comes the waitlist movement.
Should be one spot opening up soon. I'm staying in Houston.
I'm not too sure how much wait list movement there will be here this year. Supposedly, even with those of you getting accepted elsewhere, the class is still full at this time.
Could you elaborate a little, ApeMcDoug10? Did admissions tell you that?
Thanks!
What did they say exactly?Yeah, they did. I called them yesturday and found out. 🙁

I was pulling for Noshie but she doesn't have "please take me" written next to Foster in her signature. (Lubbock, really?) 😉

Then why does the frowny-face by Lubbock shedding an endless supply of tears and the one by El Paso isn't!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?I am going to change it right now! 🙂 Haha. I want to go to El Paso just as bad as I want to go to Lubbock...
