The email I have from Mr. Rosso says this:

"Feel free to contact us in FEBRUARY for an update regarding your ranking. We will NOT be able to give you an update prior to that time period."

So I'm assuming we all have to call the admissions office in February. I don't think this information ends up in the status updates.

Candidates on our Wait List can be offered an acceptance anytime during the interview season but usually not until May. The Wait list is a ranked list, and you are placed according to the final score you received after your interview. As more candidates are added to the list, your position may change. Feel free to contact us in Feb. or March for an update regarding your ranking.

That's interesting. Mine was dated 11/18, and is identical until the sentence that begins with "Feel free...". Either way, it should be reasonable to call them in February.

If this is for UB dental, I too was wait-listed on December 7th 2010. I called up the day after and inquired about my position on the list and Barbara said that I was in the top third and pretty high up there, but thats all she could tell me. She told me to call after the January 3rd deposit deadline to see if I held the same position, so I did, and she said that my position hadn't changed. I asked her if I shouldn't plan to hear anything about being moved off the waitlist until April, because thats what the initial email I received said, but she informed me on January 7th, that we should plan to see movement off the wait-list in a couple of weeks. I hope this coming week is the week. UB is the school for me!

Yeah, this thread is just premedical, ha.

I bet you found it by doing a search of all of SDN (which if you don't set a limiter includes pre-medical, pre-dental, etc.)

I called the admissions office, and they are currently deciding whether or not to ultimately disclose the wait list thirds.

The dean is apparently going to make a decision by either later this afternoon, or tomorrow.

It's just as puzzling to me. UB seems to run their process largely the same year after year, so why the difference?😕

Most likely, the amount of acceptances from the wait list will still resemble previous years, or at least I hope that is the case.

Not every school provides you with your waitlist ranking. Most of the schools I've applied to have, though at least one other school doesn't. I can't be sure why they do this. Will people who get in elsewhere withdraw if on lower third? They don't want this to happen? I really have no idea. As you pointed out, it's worked every other year...

Actually, I never saw Inception. The South Park spoof of it was good though.

It's hard to say whether people would be more or less likely to withdraw.

UB still doesn't over-accept beyond their class size, so there has to be some good wait list movement eventually.

Yeah, hope to see you there. I think most of us on the waitlist (at least SDN members), if offered acceptance to UB, are actually likely to matriculate there.

Many of the people offered outright acceptances to UB could easily end up going elsewhere, which will free up more spots for people that really want to go to UB.

Your best bet might be to check out last year's waitlist thread, and see when people were accepted. I'm guessing this year will pan out very similarly to what you see there.

Most likely, the majority of acceptances are after May 15, because that is the day when all applicants with multiple acceptances must pick one school and withdraw from all others. It is still fine to remain on multiple waitlists after May 15th.

If you receive an acceptance to UB after the 15th, you might only have about 24 hours to commit to UB. Be sure to answer every phone call no matter where you are.😉

There probably won't be many waitlist acceptances at all until the interviewing season is over (around May 1st). Supernerd was accepted off the waitlist back in December, so anything is possible.🙂

I think it's some sort of weird SDN selection bias effect, where SDN members tend to perform better than the general applicant pool. Either that, or only people in the top third have felt like posting so far. Probably that one.

I think that's right. If you are accepted, your online status should also update that day. When May rolls around, I would check that daily.

I check my status multiple times a day as it is right now, lol. It's probably pointless, because I know nothing is likely to happen for at least a couple more months.

If you know you won't have cell phone access on a vacation in May, I would call up the admissions office in advance and make sure they have a way to reach you.
