That'd probably be a good idea given wait list specific questions like this one: Will our web status indicate our waitlist position or do we have to call?

I'm nearly positive you have to call the admissions office to find out what third.

Has anyone tried this yet? The waitlist email said very strongly that we must wait until February to call, so I don't want to bother them until the time is appropriate.

ACCEPTED!!!!!!

My first acceptance!!!!!!!!!!! The interview was my best so far. 1 student and 1 doctor. It was very conversational, and they just wanted to get to know me better. The school itself was amazing, and the people couldn't be friendlier.

I'm still in shock 😱

WOW Congrats!!! That was a super fast turnaround of events! It must feel great 😀

Gimme some of your luck pleeeaseee! I'm still hoping for an interview!

i was rejected a while ago 10/15 but yea this place's interview is tough. i had 2 interviews, one with 2 medical students (same time), and another with 2 doctors (same time). some questions were tough and it was difficult especially with the 2 doctors because they kept interrupting each other and asking different questions and making comments...

Congratulations!!! You must have interviewed yesterday and received the acceptance today.🙂

Very few people (not more than the class size of around 135 and not filled until late April) are accepted to UB outright, so you should be extremely proud of yourself.

That's strange, my interview day was exactly like how IDreamt describes it. Maybe it's not always better to interview very early in the season.

That's odd. As far as I know no one on my interview day (middle of September so pretty early on), had any 2 on 1 interviews. I found some of the questions a bit odd, but some of them were also really interesting and made for a nice change relative to the standard interview. At any school there is the chance that the interviewer will just not get along with you. I haven't heard of this being a particular problem at Buffalo. Sorry for your unusual interview experience.

has anyone who has been accepted received any further packets/mail/information from buffalo after sending in the signed letter and deposit?

I haven't heard of anyone receiving any additional materials yet, and completely wish I was in the position to ask your question (anxiously waiting on the waitlist).

I take it you are accepted? When did you interview, and was the acceptance outright or off the waitlist?

Your best bet is to call the admissions office and ask when to expect more materials.

Hey, that's awesome. We could end up being classmates. I sure hope this is a decent year for waitlist movement.

Does anyone know where I can find more information about the activities (i.e. service opportunities, etc.) and organizations the school offers. Is there a viewbook or handbook somewhere that I am missing?

I am trying to better familiarize myself with the school but I can't seem to find much on their website about these things.

Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks!! 🙂

Can any current students comment about the safety of the neighborhood surrounding the school? And how is the cost of living here?

thanks

I'm not a medical student (yet), but I have lived in Buffalo for my whole life, and attended UB for undergrad, where I had classes on both campuses.

The immediate area surrounding the campus for UB medical school is honestly not that safe. You have to watch out for crime in the University Heights neighborhood of Buffalo, but if you don't venture deep into that area, you will be fine. The campus itself is safe enough.

There are plenty of nice and safe suburban and urban areas to live if you wish to attend UB medical school. Amherst and Williamsville are very nice, and Kenmore/Tonawanda isn't bad either. If you want to live in Buffalo city proper, North Buffalo and Elmwood Village aren't bad at all, and there are also lofts downtown with very reasonable rent, where some med students choose to live.

In most cases, it is an extremely good idea to own a car if you move to Buffalo. Public transport options are available, but are minimal compared to what you might be used to in a bigger city. On the plus side, traffic is very reasonable here.🙂

Have you been accepted to UB, and when did you interview?

Elmwood Village is amazing, one of the reasons why I enjoyed my time in grad school at UB as much as I did. Great restaurants, have the art museum nearby, stores, the food co-op, spot coffee, bars, beautiful boulevards designed by Olmstead, safe area, and all of this while paying no more than $320/mo for rent + utilities (split a 3BR with roomies at $850/mo, not including utilities). A great neighborhood with a community of people and local store owners committed to investing in and improving the area, since apparently it was run down in the 80s/90s I heard.

Definitely get a car. The public transportation is alright, but not ideal. It does not come often enough to have a flexible schedule, and transfering is a pain if you are in different "zones" since they make you pay extra. Also the buses stop running after midnight except for a few lines, usually those that run near Buff State when they are in session.

Allentown is another great area to live in, and you can find a good deal on an apartment if you're diligent and check multiple sources, speak to peope, etc. Its a bit of the artsy/hipster area (and also LBGT friendly if that is something you're looking for) but some of the side streets had apartments that reminded me of Brooklyn Heights for not that bad of a price (~400-700 for a 1BR).

Hey guys

Is UB still giving out interviews for this cycle or are they done?

The last interview day is April 27th, so I would say definitely yes.

Also, UB is non-rolling admissions and they don't fill their class until the last interview day.

Hang in there!🙂

I have been lurking around SDN for a while and have yet to show my love for this school. I interviewed on 11/17 and was accepted. I absolutely loved the dean of admissions, who was one of my interviewers. He was so straight forward and his attitude towards the process was incredibly refreshing. Buffalo does not jerk you around- and I love it.

I am not sure whether I will go here, but it is definitely up there as one of my top choices. I wish all med schools were like Buffalo- the process would be a lot less painful.

👍. He is also very active with first and second years, so I would definitely look forward to interacting with him in med school should I end up at UB. I also interviewed with him and really enjoyed his take on things. It was definitely one of my most enjoyable interviews.

Congrats on your acceptance!

I just got an email fromt the school saying my application is now complete, I had sent in my aplpication on the 10/4 but they needed a copy of my green card but I had gotten my citizenship so it was a big mess. Do you guys think I still have a shot at an interview?

I think you do... in the email Mr. Rosso said that the school is non-rolling and that "time" does not play a decision in the admissions factor. I've been complete since end of September I still see "NO ACTION" 😛

Congrats on the acceptance! I'm glad Buffalo was a good experience for you.

Just got an interview invite at this school! Completed back in July. That was one hell of a wait.

Congrats Kchen22 on the interview invite!! That gives me some hope, I've been complete since end of September and been waiting/hoping for an interview. Did they email you or call you?

I just got an email invitation for interview scheduled on Feb 16th...it is really late now in the cycle....anyone knows how many seats they still have open???

Good luck with ones who are still waiting!🙂

You'll be fine. And at SUNY-Buffalo a waitlist position is not a bad spot to be in, since it moves quickly (have to reply w/in 24hours to hold your spot), and many many people matriculate that way. A classmate of mine didn't interview until late Feb/early March last year, was waitlisted in April, was accepted mid-June. Congrats on the invite and good luck!

UB hands out exactly the number of acceptances they have seats for (around 135), and they keep seats open until the very last interview day in late April.

They have non-rolling admissions, so it basically makes no difference at all when you interview. The chance of being accepted, waitlisted or rejected post-interview essentially remains the same all season.

UB also has one of the most active waitlists of any school, since they accept so few students outright.

Good luck with the interview!

Make sure to eat breakfast. It's a decently lengthy tour. Otherwise just have fun!

Can anyone tell me when you are done with everything. I need to schedule my flight back and it would help alot. Also can someone please PM me the prompt. I suck at writing.

The morning is mostly orientation stuff and a lengthy tour of the medical school campus. Your interviews will be from about 1:00pm to 3:30pm. You will almost definitely be done no later than 4:00pm.

UB has one of the longer interview days for sure, but I found it to be very enjoyable and interesting.

Yes, there is a pop-essay exercise during lunch, but it's not a big deal at all. It only takes about 15 minutes, and you don't have to write much more than a paragraph. Don't worry about it, you'll be just fine.🙂
