I interviewed on Oct. 27 (I think it was about 15 of us about half males, half females). I stayed with a student host who lived with three other M-2s. They answered all of my 1 million questions. It was cold (for me) and very windy (both flights rescheduled due to the crazy midwest winds last week) but other than that I really liked the school before and after my visit.

everyone was nice, the facilities were nice, the hospital is pretty big,
there is a new curriculum in the works but it may not be up and ready for the incoming class. They have a lot of great opportunities. The CBL stuff was fun and stress-free

-if you are from a big city or just use to equating a downtown with skyscrapers... you will not see that in Iowa City lol

Def check out the interview feedback on sdn for iowa b/c those questions are the questions that they will ask lol

🙂

round trip shuttle service $65- I used the shuttle service located in the airport

I love the school

EH4aR, I interviewed on the 27th as well! I was the guy who came in just about last and clearly had no idea where the main interview room was. Haha

Interviewed today and this is a really good school. The buildings are very nice and it seems like they really care about their students...

I agree, really nice place...students seem happy and the faculty/staff will do anything possible in order to make their students successful/happy.

I stayed at the AKK house and loved it, if anyone cares to know, everyone was super helpful

Sooo, has anyone heard anything yet today? 🙂

I'm guessing this week's invites already went out considering its almost 4:30. looks like its 0 for 3 for me...

If you are talking about interview invites I got mine at 5 pm so they might not be at a specified time. Last weeks acceptances went out late (or maybe the ppl just posted late?)😕

So just for clarification, if I interviewed at the end of September and haven't heard anything regarding acceptance/rejection/waitlist, it means I'm on hold, correct? And I won't find out anything until March?

I'm OOS, if that makes any difference. Thanks friends!

I interviewed at the end of October, and the admissions office specifically said the admissions committee is still reviewing people who interviewed in September, and they go through candidates on a rolling admissions basis. So I would say there is no reason to give up just yet...

Did no one hear from the admissions office yesterday?

When did you interview? It looks like some people have been accepted from October 6th interviews...

pBRale is right. I know that some applicants from the first few interview dates haven't been reviewed while some from later dates have been offered acceptance letters. It doesn't go completely by the date you interviewed, and from my understanding it isn't entirely objective who gets presented to the admissions committee each week.

I'm curious to hear if anyone has been accepted yet this week as well. Seems unlikely that no offers went out yesterday.

I wonder if they would tell someone if they sent out acceptances this week, if they were to call the admissions office.

I'm almost positive they would. They seem to be very friendly and understanding every time I have talked to anyone in admissions.

A batch of offers did go out yesterday. Better luck next week.

I interviewed Oct. 29th, which was the last October date offered...all I can go by is what they told us, which is that they were still reviewing applicants who interviewed in September. Hope that helps!

I just got my invite this week (OOS)! I've selected Dec. 15th and I'm wondering if anyone else is interviewing that day and would be interested in renting a car together? I still haven't bought my plane ticket but I'm planning to fly in the 14th and leave the 15th. Still not sure if I will fly into Cedar Rapids or Moline.

Let me know if you're interested.

I would recommend flying into Cedar Rapids and taking the airport shuttle back and forth to Iowa City. They will drop you at your hotel and pick you back up at a pre-determined time for your return flight at your hotel or the medical school. The town is very small and you can walk around to most everywhere. There are free buses that run around town and you can hop on one to get back and forth to your interview. They really have things set up very well and you won't need a car.

Preparing for my interview tomorrow. So excited! Anyone else going to be there?

I'd like opinions from others on the med school at Iowa compared to similar schools in the area - like Mizzou, University of Illinois, etc.

So I had my interview a lil over a wk ago, but I've been too busy with work to write a thank you letter to my interviewers; so anyone else here write a thank you letter? did you send it by email or snail mail... now I'm thinking maybe it's too late, or is it even necessary... I was just thinking of saving how much I enjoyed the interview.

I'm trying not to come off to the school as being like "take me to you school, see I wrote you a thank you note".

Any advice is greatly appreciated...

I know each year is different but thought I'd share in reponse to those who are wondering if they will be told when they are moved to the final pool.

Last year I interviewed with UI on 18 Dec. Was emailed on 22 Jan and told I had been moved to the final pool. Here was the vergaige:

I am writing to inform you that the Admissions Committee has reviewed your application and held your file to be reviewed again in the Final Pool. This review begins in late January and takes approximately 5 weeks to complete (around mid-March but no later than March 20, 2010). These decisions are final and will be sent by US mail. We will not give out decisions over the phone or by e-mail.

I received the regret in the mail around 20 March 🙁

Anyway, that was last year. Interviewed on 3 Nov this year... hoping for the best. Iowa seems like a great school.

I didn't do it last year but I did this year. I sent snail mail on Friday after a Wed interview. One envelope to the admin dept which inlcuded thank you letters to both interviewers in it.
During the closing meeting they had requested we send any thank you letters to their office and they would get them to the interviewers. I would go ahead and do it... but I wouldn't wait much longer.

Thanks for the advice BaM74; I'll start working on it today in order to ensure that it is sent out tomorrow.... good-luck with the wait, it can be rather long and stressful...I try not to think about it though, which is why I'm forgetting to send them a thank you note... but u providing the zeal I needed, lol.

Anyone hear about acceptances tonight? I believe the next batch should be going out tonight.

I'm assuming they've gone out for today. When they went out last week no one posted an acceptance, either.

Not so fast, my friend. It is possible that the committee did not meet this week.

Has anyone received notification that they have been moved to the final pool yet?

Interviewed 2.5 weeks ago and haven't heard a thing. They told my group that we most likely would not hear back until december if we are accepted outright or march if we are placed in the final pool. I'm not sure if they notify applicants directly if placed int he final pool, though... The were fairly unclear.

I talked with someone in the admissions office recently and they said an email will be sent to you if you are moved to the final pool.

Thank you for fining out for us it makes me feel like there is still hope 🙂.

So yea, I totally think I butchered this interview. Came up with a question I really hadn't prepared for nor had an adequate answer for. Said like maybe 2-5 sentences on it and was done lol. Everything besides that went well.

I wouldn't stress too much about it; the interviewers and adcoms know it's a very stressful situation (especially the structured part). They'll look at your application holistically and the interview is only one small part of it. If everything else is fine, you've got nothing to worry about!

Interviewed here recently, great school. I was way more impressed than I thought I would be. I hope they liked me just as much.

Have any other accepted applicants heard anything from them regarding merit-based scholarships? I was told by admissions around 10/21 that they were going to start reviewing the accepted pool for scholarship awards. Curious if anything has received word of a scholarship.

Nope, haven't heard anything here. I thought most scholarships (except for Dean's scholarships?) considered your FAFSA, which can be turned in after Jan 1st. Did admissions say that they notify people of merit-based scholarships separately from need-based ones?

Yes. Director of Admissions told me that merit scholarships are awarded during the rolling admissions season, separate from financial aid awards.

Has anyone interviewed or been invited for an interview for MSTP? I was complete end of Aug and still haven't heard anything 🙁 Thanks!!

Yeah, I submitted my app at the beginning of September and have the interview tomorrow. Their other dates are not until December and January though. So you have some time. 😉

Anyone out there getting excited for a potential acceptance offer today? I just had my interview last Monday so I know it will be AT LEAST another month before I hear anything from the admissions committee, but I can't help but be excited.

Best of luck to everyone waiting to hear back on interview offers/acceptances! :luck:

Reminds you of anything? that darn wait for the MCAT result was bonkas as well. Waiting is the hard part of the application season.

I remember when I was preparing to start the process of applying (two years ago) and an M1 said the application process was a lot of hurry up and wait... boy have I learned the meaning of that statement these past months.

Interviewed two weeks ago and can't help but hope for an email despite it being VERY slim chance this early:xf:

Accepted! Thank the good Lord, finally.
Interviewed 9/29 and got an email of 10/15 that my committe letter wasn't complete enough. It's been a nerve-wracking month, to say the least.
Best of luck to the rest of you!

Midwestern Blot, I know we interviewed around the same time...really hoping you got some good news today, too! :luck:
