Out of state, interviewed in october. I still haven't heard back and I'm starting to stress out 🙁

I have to admit I'm starting to stress out too. For some reason I woke up completely sure today was the day (I should probably not do that). I get the sneaking suspicion the board wants to see my grades for this semester before they make a decision.

If I remember what Hawks said correctly, the way the committee chooses the files it will look over is pretty random, so you probably have yet to be looked at. However, I think that student are sent emails if they were put in the final pool. This may be based off last year's thread, as I can't seem to recall anyone actually posting this year that they've received such an email. Good luck everyone!

Helpful. Even if not true, I'll still believe it because it calms mah nervez

10-25 interview, and still nothing here too. 35 / 3.85

I interviewed that same day and still haven't heard back. I think I remember them telling us we may not hear back until early December though...

Is there a difference in the amount of time it takes an OOS applicant to hear back in comparison to an IS applicant? I always assumed that they were reviewed separately, in a random order. That being said, T minus 6 days till Tuesday 😀

But if they only review every other week, T minus 13 days till the next Tuesday 😉

I emailed the admissions office and they said they will notify people by email in late January if they have been put into the pool. Here's hoping!

Accepted this past Tuesday! Interviewed 11/10, OOS.

This is probably wishful thinking, but maybe now that the rolling period for admissions is winding down they will start meeting every Tuesday instead of every other....

We probably won't get news today, but I will definitely still be checking my emails WAY too often this afternoon! 😳

Interviewed 10/29, In-State, GPA: 3.65, MCAT: 34Q....

the ad com met every Tuesday last year, I'm betting they still do this year :xf:

Just got an acceptance email! :soexcited:
Interviewed 10/20, OOS
Good luck to everyone

Congrats jmrunner87 and tweav! Although that just adds two more to the ever-growing list of people I'm jealous of...

OOS, its very a random selection so I don't think they passed you. Hope you hear back next tuesday 😀

Yeah, I wouldn't be too worried if I hadn't heard back. The final pool is really not that bad of a place to be. That's where a big chunk of their acceptances come from every year. And there are a bunch more Tuesdays between now and the end of January anyway! Good luck everyone! :luck:

For anyone who has already been accepted, I started a "Carver College of Medicine Class of 2015" Facebook page so feel free to join! I'd love to get to know all you SDNers before orientation in August!

Says the guy with the acceptance letter 😉

Seriously, though, I'll take all the consolation statements I can get. HOWEVER, I will say that one of my friends got accepted yesterday, and she interviewed on September 27th. So I think there might be a good chance we haven't all been passed over just yet.

I don't get how the process works. Do they just choose to assess random applicants? Or do they accept a certain number (the best) each week, and then pass on the remaining people to be considered again the next week along with the new applicants?

I think you're actually right in the way it works... someone explained it earlier on this thread and it's actually the way it happens at a lot of other medical schools. One thing to know is that if your application (GPA, MCAT, ECs, interview) isn't stellar, you probably have a longer wait if you eventually get accepted. But on the other hand, if the whole package you present to the committee is convincing enough, you'd be selected sooner than later.

Good luck to us all still waiting (btw, I interviewed 11/1 also).👍

Thank you for this post. I interviewed on Sept. 24 and I'm in-state. I really don't know what to think about anything and I wish there was a little more contact between the school and the applicant post interview.

I know your pain, I interviewed 9/30ish last year. I waited till the final pool to find out I was placed on the alternate list, from there I waited all summer to find out would miss acceptance by 2 people. Hang in there, you look like a very qualified applicant.

Hey fellas, just wanted to contribute to the pool of information:

I received my acceptance email this past tuesday (December 7th, 2010) around 3:30pm. I interviewed on September 29th and have the following stats: GPA: 3.73 and MCAT: 32M. I am a non-traditional applicant, took two years off to research Alzheimer's Disease at UIHC.

I spoke with the admissions about a week or so ago and they are doing 3 rounds of acceptances this month (every tuesday they will meeting up to winter break/xmas). Good luck with everything and I hope to get to know some of you guys before classes start next year!

Very true. But I found this fram last year's thread last month as I was nail-biting about acceptances: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=625479&page=11
Looks like there were at least 2 people who had interviewed early and then accepted in December.

And, DrYack, missing acceptance by two people - wow, that really stinks. I had followed this thread last year and had seen some of your posts; anyway, best of luck this year!!

here's to a Tuesday full of acceptances for everyone on sdn! :luck:

where are all the excited Iowa Hopefuls?

Seeing as classes are over and my next final is not for another week, I well be frequenting these boards fairly often 😀

I'm guessing the magic time will be 3:23pm.

I am very hopeful! Best of luck to everyone. Happy Tuesday! 🙂

Ok so it's a little early but has anyone heard anything yet??😕

It's crazy how much tension one little email can set up!

Since everyone is frantically checking emails and watching the forum...

What is a double-blind study?
Two orthopedists reading an electrocardiogram.

Doctor: "Nurse, how is that little boy doing, the one who swallowed ten quarters?"
Nurse: "No change yet."

Nurse: Doctor, there is an invisible man in your waiting room.
Doctor: Tell him I can't see him now. Next.

Nothing like a couple of cheesy medical jokes to lighten the mood.
Good luck everyone!

Haha, thanks for those.
Looks like they're going to be releasing decisions a little later. Hopefully this means they're taking the time to admit more of us

i like your thinking!

No emails yet?? Uggh. Now I have to put my phone away until my dinner break at work. Ahhh.

Love the jokes!

:xf:Yeah, I hope this is the day for me I interviewed early October.

The suspense...is....killing.....me. Maybe they got snowed in up there and are sorting through everybody really thoroughly to pass the time. 🙄

Or maybe they lost all of our applications somewhere and are desperately searching for them...

OR, perhaps there was a viral breakout in Iowa City! The virus is spreading across the town and now it's turning the entire med school into zombies! 😱

As I sit in a coffee shop, studying for finals, this made my evening. It was worth the numerous heads turned in my direction as I burst out in laughter prior to remembering I was in public.

:luck: all!

even more of a reason why i need to go to this school. zombies are a seriously underserved segment of our population and deserve high-quality medical care just as the rest of us.

Mizoodles, you are so right. Quality zombie care is crucial, and our understanding of this means that we should probably be accepted. And as an Iowa City resident, I can affirm the fact that zombies are running rampant through our snowdrift-filled corn fields as I type.

Zombie frostbite is an amazing physiological phenomenon..
