I lived in Towson (suburb) for two years and when I began working at UMSOM I HATED the commute. Traffic's wretched. Now I live in a wonderful, historical neighborhood and walk to work every day. Takes about 25 min. Plus, there are two other fabulous areas to live not far from campus: Fells Point and Federal Hill.

Please don't let others' opinion of the area make you fearful. As with many cities, there are sure to be safety/crime issues. That said, as long as you know where to go and where to avoid, you've got great restaurants, the beautiful inner harbor plus the aforementioned neighborhoods right nearby. In other words, I'd highly recommend giving city living a chance!👍

I have a couple questions about the interview for whoever is familiar with the process. What time should we expect to get out? It says on the itinerary End: 4-4:30pm but how accurate is this? I'm wondering if I should schedule my train @ Penn Station for 4:47pm or 5:45pm... Can I make it to the station in time for the 4:47?? thanks!

It depends. If you have morning interviews, your day will finish after the tour (around 2pm). Plenty of time to check out the Mt. Vernon neighborhood just south of Penn Station on Charles St. before catching your train. If you have afternoon interviews, you'll probably finish right at 4 assuming your second interview lasts an hour. That should leave you just enough time to catch your 4:47, provided you take the light rail to Penn Station. Take a cab and you'll be screwed with traffic, despite the station only being 3 miles away. Hope that helps!
 
Has anybody gotten anything yet (I guess right now it would only be a call, its 9:40am in MD haha). Anyways, the reason I ask and am somewhat nervous is that I got a call about 10 minutes ago from "Unknown" on my iPhone but I didn't get it in time. No message or anything, just wondering if it could have been UMD. Probably not and just some telemarketing but who knows, at least its not like the decision would change whether I had gotten the phone or not... i hope

I don't think Maryland is releasing decisions today. Dr. Foxwell told us that they would mail decisions within 1-2 weeks of Oct 15. I interviewed in mid-September if that means anything.

Oh, so the consensus is that don't anxiously wait for a phone call huh? Haha, okay, at least I don't have to live and die by my phone ringing today haha, I'll wait for the mail, maybe early next week. thanks guys
 
The wait is killing me. I'm bout to walk over to the admissions office and tell them that we demand a phone call today! I'm sure that will work out well.
 
I'm still at work now, but anybody, anybody out there received their mail today with anything in it? This blows, I was already planning on dropping my paycheck on a fifth of Johnny Walker Blue to "celebrate" knock on wood haha

That's crazy, I was planning on doing the same thing! Too bad I haven't heard back from anywhere yet.
 
yeah i got a 12 pack of blue moon in the fridge ready to go...sorry my neurotic soon-to-be-accepted friends, I guess we shall wait and see what the mail brings tomorrow.

I really wish my heart wouldn't skip a beat every time my phone rings...come on maryland!

well you baltimore folk will probably get something tomorrow... i wonder how long it takes mail to reach the DC side of maryland...

Mail hasn't come today yet, but I'm heading out for a few hours. The mail should be there by the time I get. If something is there, for better or worse, I'm happy. If its not, I'm done with this anxiously waiting game, not gonna worry about it every second anymore haha. So UMD, you have 4 hours, make your move haha
 
Does UMD have a student host program? I couldn't seem to find anything...
 
Nope, nothing. I'm over it haha. It will come when it comes. But if someone does hear something, I wouldn't mind a PM to let me know as a heads up though haha, then I'll get back into checking every minute, but not until then

really dont like how quiet this school/thread has become....
I probably wouldnt hear this week but would be nice to know that some ppl got their decision

Agreed. Got rejected from Pitt and put on hold at Mayo today...I need some good news this week.
 
I agree, I hate how quiet it is here, although I seem to be checking the thread every hour or so at work (my 'waiting for UMD is not big deal' plan isn't working out very well). I got a rejection from tulane today, so any sort of good news would be welcome. any. as usual, please post when you guys hear something, thanks

Accepted!!!!!! Phone call about an hour ago while I was in the laundromat from the amazing doc who interviewed me. I started freaking out and yelling and jumping up and down and everyone started giving me the "whats that crazy white boy doing" look. Priceless.

University of Maryland class of 2015 wooooo!!!!! Definitely huge weight off my shoulders, its been a long and hard road and so many people told me I couldn't get to this point and for a while I thought they were right.

The doc who called me told me packets will be sent out in the middle of the week so check your mail soon!!!

Congrats man, thats incredible news to hear! Exciting to hear that the acceptances will be going out soon. Do you know if a customary thing for other interviewers to call their interviewees this cycle? Anybody else get a call like this? I'm half worrying now, half pumped that packets will be going out so soon! Crossing my fingers, but congrats!

congrats!!!when did you interview so i know whether or not i was reviewed this past monday or i have to wait for next monday and do you know if your interviewer is on the adcom and thats y he called you cuz mine told me he wasnt and has no news watsoever

Thanks! I don't think its a customary thing because she told me she asked the committee if they would mind if she called because she really enjoyed delivering the good news. Do not worry I'm sure you will get that big white envelope soon!

I interviewed September 27th, I think I may have said the 29th in an earlier post but that was incorrect. On my interviewers faculty profile it does list her as an adcom member, but she mentioned that she was in the adcom meeting today. Maybe she was just there to let them know what she thought of the applicants she interviewed...not really sure. Best of luck to you!

Hey, I'm a senior at Penn (in the engineering school), and I just got word via e-mail from Ms. Kareem that I was accepted last night and will be getting the package in the mail late this week or early next week! I am really excited! Are you also from Maryland? (I went to Centennial in Howard County).

BTW, for those wondering, I interviewed on 10/04.

anyone else heard anything? did she send the email to all those who were accepted last night? againzallodds did you get the email?
 
i interviewed on the first possible interview date... not sure the exact date. i never got an email, just the letter in the mail (hardly a package)
 
I'm still at work right now but leaving in a few minutes. I haven't gotten any emails or calls. I interviewed on the 29th of September. Heading to the gym before going home, need a good workout because right now I'm starting to get worried about these acceptances being mailed out and if there isn't one at my house when I get home? I live in Towson, 20 minutes from UMD so its not a long mail distance... Please please please

I wouldn't worry, it wasn't "the e-mail" (I should have been more specific to not freak anyone out!). She only e-mailed me because she had a question about my AMCAS application -- where my physics requirement was being fulfilled -- and I explained that it was in my AP credits. Then she was like, "By the way, congratulations, you were accepted last night!" So news should hopefully be in the mail soon.

interview date? so scared that im going home to nothing...but if acceptances were made last night the mail wouldnt be that fast right so those who already got it were probably accepted last monday.
 
I have not received any emails or an acceptance packet. So if you don't get it today don't worry. My interviewer did say a lot of the acceptance packets would be sent in the middle of the week.
 
Well nothing in the mail. Our mail today was unusually small to begin with, but no packet (or optimistically, rejection letter or waitlist) from UMD today. Man, this wait is literally killing me. Tomorrow is a new day haha

To you guys who have gotten acceptance packets, what type of letter/size of envelope should I be hoping to be looking out for? I remember one poster saying its hardly a "packet" but is it like an 8x11 type thing or just a large business mailing envelope? thanks and congrats to everyone on here
 
8x11. interviewed 9/29. accepted. one of my top choices. extremely happy. greenhat, i wouldn't worry. and if it's really upsetting you, try calling admissions. they are extremely kind and helpful.😳
 
do y'all think it would be totally wack to just call admissions and ask if i was accepted or not? i'm going insane in the brain right now... it doesnt help that i'm all the way in GA so the mail will take longer than you guys in MD.
 
For those of you who have received acceptance letters, do you live close to Baltimore? I live on the Eastern Shore and have heard nothing so far, even though I interviewed in September.
 
ok i called, the lady seemed a little annoyed though... she said i'd find out no later than this week or next week.... hmmm. did anyone receive rejections this week too?
 
Just got back from interviewing at an out of state school and the acceptance packet was waiting at home for me today! Definitely my top choice and extremely excited!!! Interviewed mid-Sept and I'm IS.

Now the questions really start rolling in.

i wish some of my other marylanders would come help me out! I know there are some of you there...

hey, still no packet yet, or anything from UMD. I'm really hoping today is the day. I live just outside Towson so the mailing distance is not the issue. I also interviewed a BIT later than you guys seemed to interview, I was on the 29th of September. But Dr. Foxwell still told us we should hear within 2 weeks, and yesterday was 3 weeks. I don't know... but thanks for asking haha
