For anybody whose been through the process: the website says you can be separately considered for admission to UM or to FAU, but nowhere on my secondary do I recall them asking which campus I was applying for. When/where would I specify that, and would I have to do two separate interviews if I want to be considered at both campuses?
For anyone especially insightful about admissions: The website says they conduct interviews through the end of April. That sounds unusually late (many schools do their last interviews in February). Do they seriously do a lot of interviews in March and April, or is there a more realistic date when they're pretty much done?

Did everyone who got accepted (MD/MPH) get phone calls? I only got an email. That's fine, but it all seems a little too good to be true, and I'm sort of beginning to worry it was an email fluke. Got two emails about a week ago and nothing in the mail yet...
Just got a reply from them, telling me that I'd hear from them (pre-interview) in the "next few days." I was done in early november. OOS.
Has UM done away with the distinction between "temporary alternate list" and "regular alternate list"?
Also wondering this. Can anybody who has received the alternate list letter comment to the language used?
i guess that means they sent our rejection letters in the mail?
Decided to decline my regular MD spot in favor of MD/MPH. Hope this means good news for someone else 🙂
Thanks for the pick-me-up, gujuDoc! Good luck at UCF...was on their waitlist last year so I know exactly how you feel!
To all those waiting: don't worry!! Be patient! I interviewed in the 1st week of december, got the phone call the 1st week of January, didn't hear from them at all for weeks, then got an email saying I was accepted MD/MPH and MD-only in the 2nd week of Feb. Still haven't gotten the snail mail package but I got an email today asking me to decide between MD and MD/MPH. So for those of you still waiting: it'll be ok, they're really slow!!
For those of you deciding between MD or MD/MPH I'd love to hear your thoughts on the decision. I'm kind of leaning toward MD-only because I'm wary of new curriculums, and kind of worried about the clinical exposure to surgical specialties in the combined degree program - I'd love to spend alot of time working in the Trauma center. But the MPH is a big draw too! Help please?!
Guys, help me out. I'm worried beyond description. Due to uncontrollable circumstances, I was only able to submit my secondary in middle of December. I still have not heard back for an interview. Is the class full? Anyone know whey they stop interviewing people? I feel hopeless right now. UM is where I want to go!!!
best. call. ever.
You in?
Yes! 🙂 So unexpected. I was wait-listed last committee meeting. WOO!
Hi guys,
I'm having a hard time deciding: UCSD vs Miami.
UCSD is close to home. Miami Miller (the school) impressed me more. UCSD is more scenic/manicured overall, probably safer too. People seem happier and friendlier at Miami (student happiness and my probable happiness is one of my most important criteria. The med students and general population seemed friendlier too, I don't know my sample size is too limited). Miami seems more diverse too which is nice. UCSD has significantly lower tuition (tuition also an important criteria). Both have P/NP curriculum though Miami has an internal rank. Both use medical societies. Both have awesome clinical experiences, though I suspect Miami might be better in this arena simply because of the demographic. Miami has Bascom-Palmer (thinking about ophtho). If anyone who currently attends Miami want to add some pluses about the school I'm all ears.
Lol I've gone through that CD with the powerpoint presentation 3 times already.
Blah theres also UCLA but I doubt I would go there.
side note: Also the presentation at Miami was awesome. The dean was very enthusiastic about the school and you guys had 7-8 med students to talk with us which was impressive. Compared to the 1-2 we get at most other schools.
Scrolled through your old posts and found your stats (sneeky...). You have a great chance at a scholarship at UM. Apply now if you haven't already. Maybe your decision will get easier. 👍
P.S. I second Guju's advice. Go to second look if you can.

Congratulations Ari! Although I haven't officially decided yet I will probably go to Miami too. Do you remember if the school is pass fail with an internal rank or High pass/Pass/Fail. I can't seem to find this information anywhere.
Yes...got a letter from them about a week agoHas anybody heard anything from financial aid/scholarship office?
Just received OOS interview invite. Very excited. Surprised to find out they are still interviewing.

I know, I couldn't believe it when I got the email!
What date did you choose?
Do either of you guys mind sharing your stats?

My roommate calls to tell me I got a skinny little envelope in the mail today from UM. I ask her to open it, expecting the worst. I'm an alternate for both MD and the MD/MPH!
Sometimes, though, I can't help but wonder if alternate lists are the worse of the three options (a/r/w.) Now I'm still floating around in limbo, trying to keep my spirit up with why we all put ourselves through this torturous application cycle...![]()
