adding my name to the list of pre-interview rejections. 8 schools left to love me...

my alma mater said thanks but no thanks to me. rejected today 33/3.73

Just got my rejection from Pitt over lunch! Where's the beer?

It's a sad club to be in 🙁 ... but at least we're not alone! 😀

Saw the status update today and immediately got that breathless/excited feeling that you get when you think you have an interview invite. And then I read the email .

Good luck to the rest of you!

Jesus it seems that they got real busy with the reject stamp over there today. Stay strong guys I'm sure most of you will get other interviews

Sorry to hear about the rejections. May I ask if these are all pre-interview? Or are some post-interview?

Pitt isn't sending out post-interview decisions for another 4 weeks or so; on my interview day they said the earliest would be Nov. 15.

I'm sorry to hear about all the rejections. Chin up, y'all.

Did you guys all get rejected pre or post interview? I interviewed early sept but no word yet. no sign = good sign?

Seriously, look three posts above yours. Also, I find it hard to believe they didn't tell you exactly what they told me when I interviewed there in Sept. So did you just not pay attention?

Geez louise, so many rejections! Don't give up hope guys! Anyone know Pitt's applied:interviewed:accepted ratios?

I've seen different numbers from a few sites and also posters on this board. My take is about 4500:900:325 (for a final class of 150)

Others please weigh in if I am way off.

That looks about right. I don't know how many applied last year, but during my interview day they said last year there were 1000 interviewed and 380 accepted. This year, however, they will only be interviewing 850 applicants. I would anticipate at least 300 acceptances.

Rejected yesterday by email at 2:30 PM. This is pre-interview and I was complete around August 8th. I knew it was a longshot for me but it was my dream school so it still stings. Also, I am a re-applicant so Pitt has the distinction of rejecting me two years in a row.

It is okay since I have an acceptance at my second choice school. Best of luck to those still in the running. Pitt is a great school with tremendous opportunities and resources.

Pre-interview rejection yesterday. complete 8/30

Being OOS, I probably shouldn't have applied to Pitt, but oh well...

But the med school is private, so OOS may not have the impact that IS status might give. Who knows, it's been a very exhaustive process.

Yeah, being in-state only gives you a slight advantage (both in terms of chances of being admitted and the tuition you pay) since the med school is private.

that's true - but I've seen their admission numbers and they favor instate

does anyone have their MSAR handy?

I don't and to be honest, I don't really care 🙂
I'm just too tired about the whole process. Best of luck to you Samuel. 👍:luck:

I don't have the MSAR handy, but from http://www.medicalschoolsinusa.com/University_of_Pittsburgh_School_of_Medicine.html in 2008 they accepted 99 of 845 in-state applicants (11.7%) and 354 of 4568 out-of-state (7.75%). So there appears to be a slight bias towards in-staters but really not anymore than other private schools. Good luck! :luck:

Those numbers can be skewed slightly because they take people from the wait-list who they know will matriculate. In many cases in-state applicants are more likely to matriculate. That being said, they may very well favor in-state--whether to intentionally increase their yield or not.

Ah, that's true, and would definitely make the accepted outright percentages closer to even. Regardless, however, I guess it does mean that you have a little better chance of getting in as an in-state applicant, at least off the waitlist. Really I think all schools are this way, though.

Hey guys!
3 Questions:
1- I know there's been a lot of discussion on acceptance numbers but does anyone know how many they outright accept vs how many they take off the waitlist?
2- Does pitt audio or videotape the lectures?
3- Anyone applying CSTP here? Anyone have thoughts on how competitive that program is once ur accepted md

I remember from my interview that there are 4 CTSP spots and around 60 applicants each year.

Pitt videotapes each lecture, and i remember my tour guide saying that a lot of people will just watch the lectures from home. it's especially nice when you don't want to leave your room in the dead of winter

p.s.- goldnuts, i can't keep a straight face when i say your name

Whoo! Interview invite today!
Complete 10/18... I was emailed and asked to apply so perhaps that is why there has been such quick turnaround. Or Pitt just reads apps really fast...
Either way, so excited...this is my fifth school invite and I was so concerned before because I thought my stats weren't good enough and that I was applying too late.

So sorry to the rejections, don't be too upset, you WILL get in to a school and it will prolly even be a better fit for you than Pitt.
Congrats to the interviews...and everyone, stay POSITIVE! That's what I've been doing. 🙂

Congrats!!! If you don't mind sharing, what are your stats?

Not sure, but the dean of admissions told my group that 2/3's of this years matriculating class came off the waitlist.

1/3 last year, 2/3 the year before that

Other way around. Heard that from M1s I stayed with and straight from Cynthia Bonetti, Exec. Director of Admin. (Shout out to Cynthia, since you said you read SDN. You rock!)

Are you sure? I guess I must have misheard

That's what I have written in my notes from the interview day, and I just confirmed it with my friend who is an M1 (not that that's official or anything).

I am trying to pick an interview date and am wondering whether I would be at a real disadvantage by picking a later interview date that works better for my schedule or will it really not matter that much since they will decide from a large pool of interviews?

Usually I would think that its a bad idea to schedule an interview later. In pitt's case, however, they don't make any decisions until Nov. 15th and they apparently only hold interviews until Dec. 15th so I don't think that you would be at such a disadvantage.

hey all,

i just got a letter saying i was waitlisted for the MSTP program. has anyone been accepted to it yet? i was in the first round of interviewees in september.
