wait listed 🙁...does anyone know if they actually reject anyone or do they just wait list everybody?

how good are our chances of getting off the wait list?

They do reject (I actually haven't heard of any schools that absolutely don't reject post interview) ... Last year they took two-thirds of the class off of the waitlist, and in the waitlist letter it says that they are looking to take more than last year. We'll see if it actually turns out that way, but your chances are at least decent. I consider any school that takes one-third from the waitlist as a pretty decent shot, so anywhere around two-thirds is the best you will hear about.

Awesome, thanks for the information. It has definitely made me much more hopeful. :xf:

Good luck NYBills and everyone!

Have they already started accepting from the waitlist? Check out this girl's MDapplicant's profile. I'm surprised someone with a profile there wouldn't post about getting off the waitlist here.

Wow nice catch.. no idea about that, but no one else has reported a waitlist acceptance? Like I posted earlier, I wonder if they are letting people in earlier since they stopped interviewing a month earlier.. I assume if more people get in, someone will post

Also, that page has been taken down now I guess?

So I guess she took it down? Maybe she saw my post about it. I wonder what her motivations are. Seems kinda fishy now.

Will they send an email if you've been accepted off the waitlist? Or do you still need to login to find out your status?

Accepted MSTP! 4 years of living in a library and lab have finally paid off. Submitted official papers and going here next year! Done!! See some of you next year 😀

PSTP is offering interviews, apparently as of 2/11. It sounds to me like very few are being offered. My guess is that there will be multiple rounds of invites, but this is just a guess based on the stats listed on the PSTP website for previous years.

Dunno, still waiting to hear from them. My guess is there won't be any decisions until at the earliest late February.

Interesting. Did you get an invite? Do you know how many invites have/will be offered? Sorry, I have no idea if you will know these answers, I'm just very anxious about this program. Also, does anyone have any idea how many PSTP students they will be accepting this year?

I got an invite on 2/11. All I know is that a handfull of us will interview next week and decisions will be sent three weeks later. I know from the website and from the info session during my SOM interview that they expect to interview 20 and accept 2-4. To me, this suggests multiple rounds of invites/interviews. If you haven't received a rejection, I wouldn't jump to any conclusions. Hope this helps and good luck!

do you know if they send out rejections right away or do they wait till the very end to do so?

MedSchoolBeard--

I was wondering if you might mind sharing what your stats and ECs (specifically research) are like? If not, that is fine, or if you want to PM me, that is fine too. I don't mean to seem to neurotic, but you are listed as a "post-doc," so obviously we are up against an amazing applicant pool. I'm just curious to see what kind of chance I stand. Like I said, I know this is very impatient/neurotic, but if you don't mind, it might put me to ease (or put me out of my misery). 🙂

Now it seems like I have no chance at all, haha

PSTP interview invitation!! 😍

Congratulations nicolemeooow!! Is yours for the 22nd like Medschool beard? Do you have quite a bit of research experience too??

Hope you do well on your interview!!

Thank u! I will interview on a later date. As for research experience, I suspect that the absolute quantity isn't the key issue here. My research experience is far less than most people's as I'm still in my senior year. They sent out 4 invites in this batch, so there are at least 2 more rounds to go. Good luck! :luck:

Congrats, good luck!!

Thank u! Good luck to u, too 🙂

"The Admissions Committee of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine has decided to place you on the waitlist at this time."

Oh well, that was a bit expected. Good luck to everyone else!

congrats to everyone that have been accepted! Does anyone know if we are guaranteed student housing (Darragh St. Apts) for our first year?

does anyone remember whether or not pitt is p/f for the first two years?

honors/pass/fail

at the interview, one of the current students told me they may change to pure pass/fail for 2011 entering class because the students are pushing the administration for it. No guarantee though

It is not guaranteed and it is first come first-serve, but generally everyone that wants to live there gets an apartment, including those who come off the waitlist at the last minute.

The upside is that they're 1 block away from school (great for winter) very nice and new, have great amenities (in unit washer/dryer/dishwasher etc.), and the maintenance staff is amazing and responsive (even an light bulb burning out gets replaced same day usually).

The downside is that they're pretty small and expensive relative to the area for a 1br (~$900/month with all utilities + cable/internet included). The 2brs are a better deal at $1200. If you want a 1br in south oakland (about 15 minute walk), it'll be around $700 for a larger 1br, though it probably won't be as nice. If you get together with other med students and rent a house, it can be more like $500/month

Its been talked about, but if a decision has been made they haven't told the current students yet. To be honest, I wouldn't worry about it too much either way. I came to pitt in-spite of the H/P/F grading, which I was pretty uneasy about, but liked the rest of the school so much I went anyways.

Since I've been here, its honestly been a non-issue. The class is amazingly friendly and non-competitive, before every test my inbox in bombarded with study guides people made, etc. Not getting any honors your first 2 years won't put you at a disadvantage in applying to residencies (most schools don't even have honors), but it can be a nice feather in your cap if you do well. People work hard, but do it because they want to do well for themselves (and be prepared for boards, which do matter), not to beat the other guy.

As always, feel free to PM me with any questions about Pitt. Congrats to the recent admittees and PSTP interviewees, and if your on the waitlist, don't give up, its where I and a lot of my classmates came from.

This would be some pretty big news if they did switch for the incoming 2011 class.. I would hope that they would let the applicants know about it once second look or something rolls around if that was the case

Withdrew from the waitlist today. I thought Pitt was incredible, but my state school is a better fit. Hopefully my withdrawal bumps someone up! (or if I'm at the very bottom, at least it won't make a negative difference 😉) Good luck to everyone still waiting! :xf:

Accepted off the wait list on Friday!!!

This was a great surprise!:highfive::clap::claps::biglove: :soexcited:

Congrats DocTraveler!!!! Hope I hear some good news soon...been waitlisted since October 🙁

Thanks! I literally kept refreshing the page and logging in and out because I thought it was a computer glitch LMAO. I didn't spend much time on the wait list, so that's why I was so shocked!

However, keep the faith. They accept very few initially and a lot off the wait list. Good Luck! :luck:

Accepted off the waitlist!!!! So so so happy. It's been such a long agonizing application season.

For those interested: OOS, 3.9+, 36-38

Congrats guys!

Did you get an email about acceptance off waitlist? Or did it just show up on status page?

Mind if I ask, did they (like last year) email to ask if you were still interested before accepting you?

Congrats, btw. You too, Doc.

I got an email telling me my status had changed, and providing me a link to the application website. So no I didn't get that email that they sent last year. I also sent an LOI awhile back; not sure if that helped.

Congrats on the acceptances everyone!!! Things will start to pick up now as they start going through the waitlist over the next few months.

Definitely! and I mean Definitely come for Second Look! Especially if you are truly thinking about matriculating here. This is a great place that has a lot to offer. We will show you guys a great time and answer any questions you have about coming to Pitt for medical school. Letters/emails will go out about it in a little while.

any recent interview invites. Complete 9/1 32Q, 3.7 BCPM OOS?
