Does anyone know how many applicants uvm is accepting for c/o 2015? Also, how many applications they get? Thanks in advance

Just got an interview invite! Scheduling waaaaay out into February, which is kind of crazy. Even crazier is the fact that I literally called 1 hour before I got the email to touch base and let them know I would love to come interview if given the opportunity... Guess it worked???? 🙂

Nice! Do you think calling in helped with that? I just called and spoke to Shona .. she was really nice, but couldn't give me much more information beyond the small pool. Is that who you spoke to? Was she able to give you anything more concrete?

No. That was what was so weird about the timing of everything...

I called, she basically said, "check the status online, and it might not change for months or it might never change throughout the entire cycle. I'll put a note in your file that you called expressing you interest in coming to interview, but unfortunately I don't have any other information for you." Then BAM, invite by email about an hour later. I talked to Pam (Pat?). I really couldn't say if it was the call that did it, or if it was just a bizarre coincidence. :luck:, I hope you get one too!

Rough numbers:

~6000 applicants, ~600 interviews, ~190 acceptances, 115 matriculate

Their goal is about 110-115 for a class. They DO NOT fill this up quickly though - most OOSers are waitlisted and gradually let in to fill the class as UVM's first choice candidates withdraw after being accepted and go elsewhere.

So hold out hope if you are waitlisted.

just got waitlisted here...this sucks...third waitlist for me. And I really liked this school too!

waitlisted as well....although the only other thing i've gotten this season is a rejection (post-interview), so i'm feeling good about a waitlist. considering what vermontisforme had to say, this doesn't seem like terrible news.

Sorry to hear about the waitlist. Did they email you that, or was it in your status update?

Waitlisted here as well.... OOS and interviewed 10/21. Really was hoping for some positive news this week. Hopefully soon!:xf:

online applicant center....i previously had the 'contact you shortly' status

Yea, I just checked my status. It just changed to the waitlist, too. But I hear that all out of state applicants are automatically waitlisted. The student that I stayed with said he was granted acceptance just a week after being waitlisted. So I wouldn't worry too much about it. Stay positive.

Hey folks, being waitlisted here means less than at any other school. Virtually all OOS applicants are initially waitlisted, and it's not a sign to be distressed about your chances like at some other places.

Stay positive and keep those update/love letters coming!!

this is probably the best news I've heard all week after 3 waitlists ....so I'm thinking that sending them a letter stating my interest in the school is a good idea...just not sure what to write or how to word it without sounding too pushy....any advice????

This is exactly right - you may not hear back quickly about coming off the waitlist, but OOSers in our class often did hear within a week or two, but many also months after. So don't worry about it. At least you didn't get rejected (I have heard from folks who did this round!). 😎

Just got the acceptance email! OOS, interviewed 10/12. I 😍 this school! For those who were wait-listed, that's great news too, considering what's been said in previous posts. Best of :luck: to all of you!

Status up date: Instate wait list

Anyone have any idea about what the movement is like on the instate wait list? It seems like there is a lot of movement on OOS, typically, but I haven't seen anything about the instate one.

Hey guys, it's great to see the wonderful news some of you are posting! Congrats to those of you with acceptances already, and best of luck to those of you on the waitlist. I'm really excited for all of you! My interview is coming up on the 23rd, so if you pray, keep me in your prayers - you're all in mine. Anyone else interviewing that day by the way?

interviewed on the same date... my status still says

"We hope that you enjoyed your interview at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and that you were able to learn more about our school, curriculum and life in Burlington.

Your file will now be reviewed by the Admissions Committee and you will be notified in the coming weeks regarding the final decision of the committee."

I want some news 🙁

have fun! there might not be as many people around for you to talk to on that day, the first years have a five hour block exam :scared:

I'm a quite a bit behind many of you, as my file is still under "preliminary review." However, I've had this status for longer than 8 weeks. They say it could take 6-8. Is this typical? What's the hold up, UVM??

I know. I submitted my secondary around early September. Haven't heard back from the school yet. Come on...

Tomorrow will be 8 weeks for me. They must have a bottle neck.

I'm going to wait patiently. I really want to go to school here.

Definitely a bottle neck. I submitted in July, but because of my committee my letters didn't get there until end of August. So it has been more than 8 weeks for me in terms of being complete and under review. Really looking forward to hearing back from UVM though, curriculum sounds intriguing and Vermont is a beautiful state.

Got waitlisted here as well. OOS, inteviewed 10/12. Hopefully it starts moving soon.

so it seems like there have been a few folks who have been accepted outright with most of waitlisted, which is par for the course at UVM. It doesn't seem like there has been any waitlist movement though yet this year which is later than in previous years.

Has anyone been accepted off the waitlist yet? I mean, it's only been a few weeks since they released ANY decisions so I'm not worried yet it just seems that in previous years' threads they waitlisted and then started accepting from that list fairly quickly.

"Your file is complete and has been preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended. Please note that this does not guarantee you will be offered an interview and you may not see an update to your status for several months."

So what exactly does this mean? I've read here about 'small pool,' 'large pool,' etc. Most likely that I will get one? Won't get one? I figured I'd use this site before I gave em a call, even though 99% of people here don't know what they're talking about..

Yes, you have been pooled. I think the issue with small pool vs. large pool is that some people were concerned many people made it past the primary screening so maybe the "small" pool was not so small.

On the bright side, it's not a rejection! Unfortunately, I can't tell you, nor can anyone else here really, what the odds are of you receiving an interview invite after you've been pooled.

Good luck, mano! 🙂

Large pool = Everyone who applies.
Small pool = Everyone who doesn't get rejected during preliminary review.

Swimming in another small pool. But I'm excited! Vermont sounds really cool. Hopefully this leads to an interview :xf:. I'm in too many small pools and holds at the moment, could use some face-to-face time. Complete mid-late August, e-mailed an update letter, small pooled shortly after.

edit: I've been following the thread loosely, so I've only seen the extremes, but generally how long have people been waiting in the small pool before an interview invite? Is it mainly OOS applicants passing through the small pool? Does this give us a sliver of hope for the winter?

I was in the small pool for about 2 hours before I got an interview, but one of my friends was small pooled for 2 months, so theres a huge range. Give em an update letter and tell them how awesome uvm is (which it is) 🙂

I've been small pooled since the first day you could be (July...?), so there you go.

I am dead-set on UVM, if it is possible to be dead-set on any medical school. I was wondering if I should send an update letter, telling them they are my first choice and updating them on what I've been doing this semester. I am a post-bacc student and don't have a med advisor or anything so I was wondering if this would be helpful?

I have a 37 MCAT and nearly 4.0 GPA, but did not get my app in until October.

After 10-11 weeks of getting complete, I got pooled today (crying face in agony)
I haven't gotten an email yet. With only two interviews so far, I really counted on Vermont. It HURRRTS CHARLIE IT HURRRTS.

Can some people who have already interviewed share what the interview was like? What were some of the questions you were asked, what was the feel of the interview (formal, casual and conversational etc)? Interviewing in less than a week and I would love to get a feel for what to expect. Feel free to PM me. Thanks.

The interviews are usually pretty relaxed - conversational is a great term. The biggest consistent questions are: tell me about yourself (not exactly a question) and why do you want to be an MD.

You should enjoy it. Be relaxed! And good luck. Look for us (current students) if we are around.

I agree. this was by far the most relaxed and enjoyable interview i had. if you're an OOSer, be ready to answer the question "why vermont?"

Awesome, thanks a lot guys. Yeah, pretty much every student that either goes there, are has gone there, has said the same. I am actually really excited. I just got in to Burlington last night and I'm here 'til wednesday (interview on Tuesday). PM me if anyone wants to hang out! Although, I know all you current students have big exams Monday and Tuesday, so good luck! I heard we probably wont see you guys on interview day because of your exams, but hopefully I get to meet some of you. Im probably gonna be checking out the campus today and monday. Look for me, I'm the tall, dark, and handsome one. haha jk, I'll be wearing a black coat, glasses, and Nikes though, and I'd love to meet any of you. 🙂

I interview on tuesday as well! See you there! I'll be the one with the slight Southern accent. LOL. First time to Vermont so I'm kinda excited. Not for the weather though because it's 65/70 here and its supposed to be 30ish there.

Dont worry Serious, the weather is not that bad. I am from Sunny Southern California, but I am doin' ok. I am actually enjoying it quite a bit. Also, for you, and everyone else who has yet to interview/see the campus, I went and visited today - WOW! The entire campus is absoluetly drop-dead gorgeous and amazing. The pictures really don't do it justice. It was absolutely inspiring just being on campus today, I was completely blown away. This place is just beautiful. Also for you and anyone else interviewing on Tuesday, I rented a car for my stay here because my hotel is kind of far (quality inn in colchester), and the taxi cabs were getting expensive, so if anyone needs a ride to the school on Tuesday, I can definitely pick you up and save you the cab money. I have room for 4 more 🙂. And if you guys are in town, and just wanna get around without getting a taxi, I'd be more than happy to give you guys a ride somewhere if I'm not doing anything. I'm going to be visiting more stuff around Vermont tomorrow, and will probably visit the campus again sometime in the morning, or early afternoon if anyone wants to join. Feel free to PM me if you guys need anything! Good luck everybody! 🙂

I interviewed 10/14 and still no decision. Does this mean anything to not hear back for so long? Rejection?:scared:

Although I did not say it initially, I have to say that I had the best interview day at UVM compared to total of 6 other schools I have been to. The day was very organized. I was sitting alone waiting for interview and one of the internist who was also a faculty sat with me for like 15 min to give me company. When he left, bunch of students came by and they were very friendly. Even though it is very cold and far, I am bumping this school to top of my list. GL everyone.
