OOS state interview in Spokane?? That's weird. I assume your from CA? I wonder why they would do that. Doesn't sound very convenient.

Well, congrats!

YA.... I'm from CA, but have lived in Spokane for 7.5 years now and still do not qualify as a resident but sent an informational letter explaining my desire to stay in Spokane and apparently they heard me! 😀 BEST DAY EVER! Now to get that acceptance......

Ahhh ok that makes sense! Well I'm glad they are being accommodating for you. Best of luck! I hope they keep those 7.5 years in mind...

I hope so but I think they met last Tuesday so I am not sure if they will meet this week

Caligurl, did you apply to the TRUST program?

^Nope, I don't think I have heard of anyone that did. Maybe they're just not on SDN though.

Did anyone else who got rejected receive a seemingly cookie cutter response email? The reasons they gave for rejection in my email do not accurately reflect my case in particular

Dan I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope you hear some good news soon!

I need to stop checking this board....now my heart is pounding and I'm expecting an email...

LieutenantDan, I wanted to tell you that I'm really sorry to hear about your rejection; I also want to thank you for your advice for dealing with my own (thank you also to driftkitty- I'll take your advice about the exit interview).

I also got a template 'not ready' email with the code RJ10 at the bottom. Feel free to PM me if you want compare rejection letters/have a sob party

UC'ed today. Had a great interview but MCAT is a bit low. Got my chin up and hoping for good news eventually 🙂.

I'm sorry to hear that. The "not ready" email they send out is fairly generic. For most people, it is not helpful at all and doesn't address any specifics. I would recommend that you call the UWSOM front office and try to schedule and appointment with the dean of admissions, Dr. Carol Teitz. She is usually welcoming and can give you a fairly precise explanation for why you weren't accepted and tips on how to improve your application. Many of my friends who got rejected went to her and got very good advice. They were all accepted the year after.

You guys are all awesome and so supportive, thank you it means a lot to me. I believe you all have the right qualities to make great doctors, whether it's sooner or later.

Today I was feeling really bummed because I was really hoping for Seattle, my fiancee just landed an awesome gig as a singer for Seattle Opera which makes it all the more disappointing.

I had a near death experience many years ago in a bad car accident, I couldn't walk for a long time afterwards and it was a very trying time. Today I looked at the screws that were taken out of my ankle in my final surgery and I was reminded of how lucky I am to have come this far, and how important it is to never give up hope. The future always holds brighter days as long as we are patient, even if some years we have to be more patient than others.

I have found that by embracing the people who believe in me I am given the courage to carry on, thank you all and I hope for nothing but the best for you.

I am so sorry to hear you got rejected LietenantDan..i also along with many here was rooting for you. Thank you for all of your helpful posts! I am certain you will make a fantastic physician even if UW is not where your MD will be from.

LieutenantDan,

Thank you for remaining so positive and supportive! As you said, something good is coming down the road. All the best to you!

just got the financial aid email.... although still under consideration. what a tease!

I found my rejection email highly inaccurate, and thought about addressing the committee in an email to see if they wouldn't mind clarifying some of their responses because I can't help but disagree with some of their responses. ie: they said that i hadn't received enough exposure to the medical field when my father is a physician and I have spent more time observing the doctor-patient relationship than probably most applicants, and spent time observing the life of a physician. So yes, I also got a cookie-cutter email :-/ No hard feelings though, I am exploring my other options!

I got the fin aid email as well.

As a reapplicant, I know that they send it to everyone so that you get your financial aid deadlines met in case you get in. They'll send us an email about that soon, telling you to fill out FAFSA and submit it to UW just in case you get accepted after the deadline has passed.

hey guys, i was wondering, how many days/cumulative hours would you give yourself to prep for a UW interview (while working full-time)? i know the interviews are tough and mine is coming up sometime in february, and i remember reading earlier in this thread about people whose interviews with UW were scheduled soon after they got the email, and not feeling that they had enough time to get ready for it.

I don't really think you can prepare for the ethical questions over a period of a few days. You should be reading questions (starting...now) from the UW bioethics site and having doctors/med students you know ask you some ethical questions in person. You need to get used to the "feel" of these kinds of questions. Also be read up on health reform. If you want some bedtime reading for the next few weeks... I recommend "The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down" by Anne Fadiman or T.R. Reid's "The Healing of America." I think either would provide good talking points for an interview.

The "why do you want to be a doctor" type questions you hopefully have an answer to already. These are standard questions that will be just like interviews at other schools if you've had any. Still, these are probably the questions I would rehearse (not memorize) out loud the few days before the interview.

P.S. don't forget to relax.

^. Agreed. Also really think about all your activities. Almost all my questions were based on my experiences. Alsof my ethical and healthcare questions were centered around my ec's

I second that the UW bioethics modules are very useful to read, make sure if you look at that you also do the practice questions, they have a discussion button that functions like an answer key and can be helpful in getting you to think critically about the questions.
I read a few books before but I found "how doctors think" by Jerome Groopman to be an insightful and entertaining read, he explores the issues facing doctors by interviewing several docs from a variety of specialties.
Of course no amount of knowledge will help if you are too nervous to fully answer questions in a way that demonstrates your knowledge, which was certainly true in my case, so if I were advising myself I would say definitely focus on things that will help you relax during the interview.

I completely understand what the above people have said, and ideally if you have time, then listen to their advice. However, if you dont have the time...its ok to cram all the studying in a few days, you just have to be very efficient. I actually didn't look at the bioethics website till the night before and it was ok. Secondly, you can google some really good articles about the healthcare system and why usa spends so much yet is inefficient.

Again, if u have time...be thorough...if u dont (which I completely understand) then u have to be efficient in the little time u have. PM me for some more tips, I don't have time to write everything right now.

Good luck.

Accepted!!!!! Got the call from Dr. Teitz as I was coming out of security at Sea-Tac...I just interviewed yesterday and was completely flabbergasted to find out today! I can't believe how quick of a turn around it was, just one more awesome thing about UW. I am so incredibly happy and have so much love for this school!!! Good luck to those still waiting!

Accepted tonight!!! I got the call around 6:00, and I was so shocked!! I've been getting the "Still Under Consideration" since my interview in October, so I wasn't expecting to hear anything until April. Aghhh!!!!! 🙂🙂🙂

I sent in two updates after my interview back in October- one update in November after my first under consideration email and then one just recently in the middle of January. Seems like they helped! Definitely didn't hurt 🙂

Yes there is hope! Congrats 👍

Hey you guys. I also received the financial aid e-mail and I think I read that instructions will follow. I haven't heard anything so far. Have you guys already started filling out your financial aid forms? Should I just log onto FAFSA and get started or do I wait for the e-mail with instructions and everything?? Thanks!

oos invite today! complete around mid november. Even getting this interview is like a dream come true. This is my absolute dream school. I want to do everything possible to rock this interview, How do you guys recommend preparing for it?

Congratulations on your acceptance nwmd22!! Can I ask what kind of updates you sent in? I'm not sure if I should update my app because my new activities are similar to my previous jobs. Advice?

Thank you! I sent in an update about a publication, and then a LOR from my research advisor for that publication. If you have new activities, you can just try to spin them a little differently than your previous jobs when you describe them. I also made sure to end the letter with a clear paragraph/statement about why it was a good fit... you know, about why you and UW are made for each other 🙂

Anything to show them you're still interested, are still working at making yourself a better applicant/future doctor, etc. I think it helps!

I am an Idaho resident. I wasn't complete until 12/17, but found out last week that I would be getting a formal interview invite sometime this week to interview the last week in Feb. I see lots of good info on how to prep. I was just curious as to how many other Idahoans are going to be over in Seattle for those three days of interviews and how many Idahoans have already been accepted/rejected.
