Is it taking anyone else forever for UW to upload their letters? My AMCAS was complete 8/4, verified on 8/30 but UW status page still says they haven't uploaded my letters. That's the last thing until my application is complete. Ugh.

I sent my letters on 8/24 (secondary was submitted on 8/20) and I was complete on the status check last Friday (9/17) and received the complete email this Monday (9/20).

Does anyone have any experience sending letters of interest/update to UWSOM? Are they generally accepted and if so, by snail mail or e-mail or both?

Thanks!

~Kalyx

I sent mine via email. They do reply but it took about a month for them to get back to me and hasn't seemed to affect their decision timeline...I'm still under review

got my secondary this morning! wa resident but went out of state for school - 3.5 gpa, 30Q mcat.

Woot!! UW Invite, yay for instate love! I pray to God that I get into this school!!

Hi, I just received my interview invite as well. I'm really excited about it.
To answer your question, nwmd22, it's an email invitation.
My application was marked complete on August 16th (after being approved by the residency office).

To all those with an invite, what was your gpa/mcat score? did you do a lot of research and shadowing? Thanks in advance!

Interview invite today! Interview scheduled for Oct. 12th. Less than 2 weeks away!

I received the initial email 7/13 and just received the secondary 9/27, so if you're not hearing from them don't worry too much yet.

I have a question about the prompts though. The 3 questions (I'm OOS) I have are 1) the autobiographical, don't reiterate your PS question, 2) abstracts, and 3) how have your experiences prepared you to be a physician?

I think #3 overlaps a lot with my PS and #1, how did you all differentiate between answering all parts of #1 and not repeating yourself completely in #3?

Thanks so much, I really need the help!

i got mine yesterday for oct. 12th too! so excited for it but really nervous! i didn't expect to get interviews this early for some reason so I'm only just beginning to formally prepare.

nwmd22: did you go to UW for undergrad by any chance?

You can reiterate things in #3 if you want. The prompt doesn't say anything about not repeating information. I highlighted the most important things among my jobs/activities that prepared me to be a doctor. I talked about them in much greater detail than was available in my PS and my Activities section. Hope that helps....

Of course, I haven't gotten an invite yet, so I can't say whether I want did was absolutely ok... but I'm pretty sure it is. I'm OOS and we're not supposed to get invites until Dec...

I'm in state with decent stats. 33Q 3.7. I have tons of experience and 5 other interviews scheduled from pretty good schools, so I know I'm competitive. However, this is my number one and I haven't received an invite yet. I was complete 7/19. I thought they were just sending them out late but now that others complete much later are getting interviews I'm starting to think I got passed over. Anyone else who's in state in a similar situation??

Oh cool! Interview buddies 🙂 I didn't go undergrad at UW, I went to undergrad down in Oregon. Did you?

yep--just graduated from UW. UW is definitely my first choice and while i'm super excited for the interview, it's kinda nervewracking to have your very first choice by your very first interview! i guess i'll see you in less than 2 weeks! 🙂

I agree... this is my first choice/first interview as well! Very nervewracking. See you soon!

On average, how soon did you guys receive your secondary from UW? My AMCAS just got verified 9/29, so I am wondering how long I will have to wait for a secondary? I'm an instate UW grad btw.

I just got an invite =). My was completed on 9/13. good luck everyone!

Have there been any Out-of-State interviews granted yet?

Not that I know of. I'm OOS and was completed 07/26.

On the complete e-mail, they say that they don't send invites to OOS until Dec. I wonder if this also applies to rejections.

That's interesting. I'm also OOS (though just down in Portland, which really is only across the bridge) and was complete on 8/23. My complete email didn't mention anything about December invites. Rather, it says:

"After your application has been evaluated, which may take a month or more, we will notify you in writing of your status. Please be aware that Washington interviews are conducted between October 1 and mid-March and the regional interviews are scheduled as indicated below."

Oh, but as I read on it does say something in the last paragraph about most applications from outside of Washington not hearing about interviews until December. But that is in the WWAMI paragraph and right before the list of WWAMI interview dates which are all early 2011, so I kind of assumed that was geared toward that population of applicants:

"The WWAMI Program of decentralized medical education at the UWSOM has particular weeks during which each state's applicants are interviewed. Please see the dates below to determine when your state is scheduled for these meetings. Because most of these sessions occur later in the interview season and because we usually assign interview committees one month in advance, many of our applicants from outside Washington do not hear regarding an interview until December or January."

I'm still going to check my mailbox eagerly each day, but I'll try not to keep my hopes up. Oh UW, you so crazy. And awesome.

Congrats!!! It's good to finally hear of an OOS getting an invite.

At the same time, I know that that doesn't bode too well for me. Oh well... 🙁

I spoke too soon cuz I just checked my e-mail and INVITE!!!!

SOOO EXCITED!!! Definitely one of my top choices... plus I've never been to the west coast.

Interviewing in Nov. Completed 07/26 for those who are curious.

Someone told me that the first year is the only year that you pay OOS tuition and then the other three, you're eligible for IS tuition... is this true?

If so, this is SOO my top choice (it's currently at #2 so not that big of a jump 😳).

hmm...i've never heard that and it wouldn't make sense at all from the med school's perspective (since you hadn't paid taxes and thus, would be receiving a subsidized education without ever having paid into the system) but, yes, that would be awesome if one were an OOS student

I googled it and find out that while it only takes ONE year to get residency status... one has to be there for a reason OTHER THAN education.

I wonder if anyone has deferred their acceptance for a year and work in WA for a year to gain residency.

Congratulation! When is your interview?

Just curious if any of you WA residents did the running start program in high school?

I'm wondering how they use that in calculating the fancy weighted GPA

Thanks! 🙂

to the best of my knowledge (from the website info and from the town hall meetings that they hold with the dean of admissions and from different informational events hosted by UW SOM that i've attended), they do not use those grades. I think they start counting from your freshman year after you officially matriculate into college. I could be wrong but I'm pretty certain.

uwsom doesn't do deferrements so you'd have to reapply if you wanted to be considered in-state.

I was hoping that was the case 😀

I'm going crazy! My secondary is ready to go except for the letters of recommendation, which have yet to be downloaded from AMCAS by UWSOM. It's been almost 4 weeks now!

:smack:

Did they send you an email saying your application is incomplete still? I got that email from them after waiting 3 weeks for them to download. I emailed them back saying I submitted them through AMCAS and they emailed me back a few hours later saying my application was now complete. So yea, it was weird...I would double check and ask if it's already been 4 weeks since you sent them.

I'm OOS, received initial letter 8/30 (a little late, I know 🙁), and haven't heard anything since. It seems like UWSOM isn't shy about rejecting people, especially OOSers, but it's been a while since I've heard anything at all. Pretty much ready to give up on UWSOM and assume I slipped through the cracks somewhere...has anybody waited this long for a response of any kind?

Two OOS'ers on this thread have gotten an invite so far (Read the posts above for the specifics).

I waited for over 2 months for my invite (was complete 07/26). Don't lose hope.

Interview invite!! I'm an in-state applicant. My application was complete on the 23rd. I'm so excited for this.
Best of luck to everyone that's waiting!

Hey guys, I'm OOS, got the interview invite about 2 weeks ago. Sooo excited, definitely one of my top choices.

Don't lose hope, I submitted my secondary early July, application completely approved august 2nd.

Good Luck to u all.

Anyone else interviewing Nov 2nd?
