Wow. Congrats to the acceptances so far.

Do they only inform acceptances by phone? Did you get a follow up e-mail shortly afterwards?

I'm out of the country until Sunday night so cannot answer my phone up until then. 🙁

I interviewed on 11/04 and never got that e-mail. Not sure what that's supposed to mean.

I guess my question is... what happens if they can't reach you despite calling several times? Would they then resort to e-mail?

i interviewed on 10/5 and didn't receive my "still under consideration" email until 3 weeks later. i wouldn't worry too much right now. it's still early in the process and i don't think the EXCOMs meet too often this early.

as for the phone call, i'm not sure. my excom tried calling me earlier in the morning but i didn't pick up... he called me again later in the day. based on that, i think they're pretty consistent about calling. i doubt they'd reject you because you didn't pick up 🙂 best of luck! :luck:

ACCEPTED!!!!!

YEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHH!!! First acceptance, i'm soooo excited, i'm going to med school!!!!! 🙂🙂😀🙂🙂😀🙂🙂😀🙂

I interviewed 11/2, never got a "still under consideration email" so don't worry. My excom member called me at 5 pm.

From what i understand, this was the first excom meeting of the month so if you didn't hear anything it could be your representative never went to the meeting...don't worry too much.

Good Luck to you all!!!!!

Wow congrats!!!

I think I had Dr. Teitz as my excom member and I'm pretty sure she attends all the meetings =/ so I guess they rolled over mine.

congrats to everyone with acceptances!!
how long did it take to hear about an interview after your file was complete? (in state)

JUST got the "under consideration" e-mail. Scared the crap out of me at first because I thought it was a rejection e-mail.

Hey congrats man!!👍👍 wishing you the best of luck in your next 4 years. I got the email today, I guess I'll try my luck again next cycle.

dien, i just got the rejection email. pretty shocked honestly, didn't think i would fall into the "not ready" category... oh well, i'll try again next year. good luck to you, hope you get in!

Just got the acceptance call this morning!!! Too bad everyone is snowed in or else I'd be out celebrating!!

Got my still under consideration e-mail yesterday. Good to know there's still some hope.

there is absolutely still hope. my interviewer actually said it's rare for people to get accepted right away. so don't feel down at all!

if you have any new info to share, i would recommend sending them a letter. it shows that you're still committed to medicine even after the interview process. but i wouldn't send a letter of intent at this point because it's pretty obvious u want to go to the school... so it doesn't carry much weight.

have faith! best of luck!!! :luck::luck::luck::xf::xf::xf:

I wish guys who got accepted share what happened in their interviews. Like what was the feeling and what sort of questions (you think) you did good or bad. Congrats guys!!

I fell in love with the place, the day was very chill and i felt the interview was really smooth....but, this was not the overall feeling with the rest of the interviewees, I seemed to have it easier...I wrote a review on the interview page...interviewed 11/2, check it out.

Thanks, I really hope u get it! 🙂

Aww man....that's unfortunate bro, 🙁 🙁 it was really good meeting you and I wish you the best whether u go somewhere else this cycle or to UW next cycle.

I hope my memory is accurate but I think I remember reading from the FAQ that the interview comprise 80% of your evaluation towards getting accepted. Remembering this is making me nervous.

They were keen on targeting an applicant's weak points and asking them uncomfortable questions.

^I'd say if you really don't want to go to UW don't go through the formality of an interview when they could give that spot to someone else.

I just re-read the FAQ and didn't find that anywhere. I'm not sure if you maybe read it elsewhere, but either way that sounds way too high, so don't be nervous 🙂

I've heard the interview counts up to 50 percent.

How long did it take you guys to have the payment complete (after sending in the check) and for the letters to be downloaded (after submitting that section)?

Thanks!

Payment received was about a week (I'm OOS, might have taken a while to get there in the mail), letters were uploaded in about 2 or 3 weeks.

I was placed into the "Not Ready" bunch after secondaries, before interview. The email came with several very good recommendations on how to be a more competitive applicant next year, and encouraged me to reapply. Irony is, I am currently doing exactly what was recommended (observing the doctor-patient relationship, more time working in a medical setting), and if I had been able to talk about these experiences on the primary, I am doubtful that they would need to be making these recommendations.

Question: What do y'all think the likelihood is of me successfully arguing my case, and being granted an interview invitation? I already sent out a letter detailing my activities that fulfill all of the recommendations to the adcom- hoping they get back to me.

Whaddya think?

I have no idea how UW handles admissions decisions appeals, but I would say your chances of getting an interview are a lot greater if you have been doing those activities for a while, but for some reason UW has no idea that you have been. I think it will mostly depend on why they don't know you've been doing the things you've recommended. If it's because you haven't been doing them for very long or you didn't feel they were substantial enough to put on your primary/secondary, then I would say unfortunately their recommendations still seem to hold true, and the likelihood would be low. However, if it is because you didn't have room to put them on your application, or some other reason, you might actually have a good shot. Good luck either way! :luck:

Interviewed yesterday.

I got asked some super tough questions, which I know is their goal to see how I'll react and whatnot, but it definitely leaves you feeling kind of 'meh' about how you did. Hopefully it works out though! They said we should hear back in 3 to 4 weeks!

For those who were accepted:

I was accepted last month and I had a question about WWAMI. Is there anything I can do to avoid going to Spokane or Pullman for my 1st year? Despite giving your preference about which site you want to go to on the admissions page, I heard it doesn't really make a difference. If I was to accept this early in the process, would the likelihood that I go to those other sites increase?

I have not been accepted, but some of my friends who were last year said you have the opportunity to appeal your placement if you have a good reason to need to go to one place over the others.

Thanks Dookie- It's closer to the former. Primary was sent off early, before any of the new experience happened- now I've got 2.5 months of working full time in a primary care clinic for the homeless population, plus I'll be here right up until matriculation time next fall. Hoping they recognize this and give in for an interview at least:xf:.

Best of luck to you too!

Interviewed same day. Also had pretty tough questions. Gonna be a long 3-4 weeks.

Thanks Dookie! Do you know what kind of appeals are considered legitimate?

I'm not sure the entire spectrum of reasons they accept, but one of them appealed because her fiancee was working/living in Seattle and she did not want to be separated from him. I don't know what the other person's reason was. Hopefully you get Seattle the first time around though so you don't have to worry about it! :xf:

The reasons for appeals reallyyyy varies. Some people say they have family here (either parents/bros/sis or spouse/kids), some say significant other works here, some say they have a lease they really don't have to break, some people had other obligations that didn't end before the start school at other sites. I don't think I have heard of anyone not getting their appeal granted but from what I know everyone is assigned a random number and they just go down the list until they run out of seattle spots and then go through again to fill up the other sites~

that's good to hear. it's not that i mind going to spokane or pullman, but my girlfriend lives in seattle and i was hoping to stay. so i guess it doesn't really matter then and i should just go ahead and accept the offer. thanks for the help!! 🙂

How do they allow ppl to go through a prelim screening, secondary screening (for interview) and then say that you are "not ready" post-interview??

I thought their screens were relatively selective?

My host told me that everyone he knew who appealed got what they requested. I'm sure any appeal, as long as it sounds legit, will work.

Does anyone know if WWAMI applicants have to interview in their home state? I go to a school much closer to Seattle than my home state (Alaska) and I would prefer the shorter trip.

From the admissions website:

Are WWAMI applicants interviewed by people on their state’s committee, or do they go to UW?
Washington applicants and out of region applicants are interviewed by Washingtonians. Applicants from Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho are interviewed by 2 people from their own state’s committee and 1 person from Washington. With regard to the place at which the interview occurs, Washington interviews are held in Seattle and Spokane. Wyoming and Alaska interviews are held only in Laramie and Anchorage, respectively. Montana and Idaho interviews are held in Bozeman and Boise, respectively, and in Seattle.

So unfortunately it looks like you'll have to make the trip 🙁

Thanks! That's what I was thinking. I was confused because the Alaska WWAMI secondary form said something about preferring Anchorage or Seattle for an interview.

Haha...wow, anatomy coloring books! It's ok though, we kind of all have to be nerds to get to this point...embrace it and love it.

Thanks for the congratulations...and Congrats to u too. Med school is going to be awesome.
