#29 for me. Better than last year. I reeeeally hope this means I'm going, and I hope it moves fast enough that I don't need to wait til the last minute to decide if I need to find a place to live at my #2 choice school.

I'm on my phone now but ill have to check how fast they got to the 20s last year.

Rejected Out of Region. Its been a great ride chaps. I'm off to Chicago!

I was accepted last night by phone around 8 pm central time. im a washington resident but have been out of state for the past year. interviewed in november and uc'd. if you dont believe me i really dont give a ****- just thought i'd inform some people who get off to any bit of news from uw

my apologies for questioning you then 😳 people often make fake posts about getting in to get people's hopes up, and I thought that's what might have been happening. but since I'm wrong, congrats on your acceptance!

congrats to everyone on the alternate list! here's hoping you get good news sooner rather than later 🙂

#6.... I hope this is good rank, but I know nothing about how their WL moves..... Anyone know how fast or what the average # taken off the WL is??? I'm not sure if I should be excited or depressed....?

You're in.

Wow all! It's been nuts so far! Here's hoping we somehow all slide in!!!! The pressure won't be off until the waiting is really over...Thanks for the support, camaraderie and encouragement, it's been incredibly helpful over these past months to know that there are others out there!

I hope it happens fast for all of us! Would you mind sharing your findings? Thanks!

Looks like last year hit the 30s by the end of may. Hopefully we move at least that fast this year! I think I was around spot 49 last yr and they only got to 40 so I was really bummed. At least I have some other choices this year, but ill hold out for uw!

I'm going to try and gain some good waitlist karma by withdrawing early from all the other schools where I'm holding acceptances or waitlist spots that aren't as high on my list. Hopefully people at UW that would rather go elsewhere do the same and we see some fast movement. Being in limbo for a long time is brutal.

The list will move. Just relax everyone! I've accepted my spot, but things may change should UCLA/Drew decide to let me in! We've been through so much, what's a few more weeks at this point?!

I pulled this from an earlier thread, looks like 29 is the lowest number they have reached on the waitlist.

2008: 32
2007: 34
2006: 40
2005: 29
2004: 31
2003: 39
2002: 33
2001: 47
2000: 33

^Being #29, I'm apprehensive to get excited.

I guess I'll know around the end of May if it is keeping up the same sort of pace as last year.

It's been so quiet on here, it'd driving my crazy! I was hoping we'd hear esteban go to UC or more ppl complain/excite over their rankings... I do know at least one person from my undergraduate who will be declining their UW spot pending their scholarship package elsewhere... so that will be a move in the right direction.... Is anyone considering waiting more than a week or two before calling to see if they #s have changed? I figured we could all take turns and keep updated on movement.... I'd rather not go on my last interview in a week lol!

Waited through many UC emails and I finally got rejected. I was hoping for a spot on the alternate list, but didn't make the cut. Looks like I'll be spending the next four years out of state; it's an intimidating but exciting prospect. Good luck to everyone on the waitlist!

I gave them a shout yesterday and the woman I spoke with was super helpful! She said they are going to email us the details soon, but that we'll be able to check our progress online. I'm sure they'd be happy to tell you where you're at if you really don't want to go to another interview...and being #6 you're definitely going to get in!

Sorry to hear it!! Glad you've got other options!

I saw that too. It seems legit, but I wonder where they got the numbers from. Hopefully the trend holds true for this year...

Hey, hey, are you trying to get rid of me?!

so maybe someone can help me out with this. I've been accepted to UW, and waitlisted to another school of which i'm equally interested. Let's assume may 15th comes around and I still haven't heard from the other school...at which point i would have to firmly accept UW.
So what if the other school accepts me at the end of may, how does that work exactly? Is someone allowed to decline the offer after they have accepted it and after may 15th? Do schools really look down upon that?

p.s. this is a true story, so those of you on the waitlist, if i get the other school, i might be able to help you out a little. Good luck to all.

I'm no expert on this so correct me if I'm wrong guys...

After May 15th you can only hold one acceptance, but I assume you can later decline your one acceptance for another. You probably just lose your deposit at the first school. I don't think this is frowned upon... this is just how things work out for applicants in your situation.

I think that's a pretty typical situation. From the AMCAS website (https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/recommendations/62826/policies_admissionofficers.html)

6. After May 15 of the matriculation year (April 15 for schools whose first day of class is on or before July 30), April 30 for MD-PhD programs, each school or program implement school-specific procedures for accepted applicants who, without adequate explanation, continue to hold one or more places at other schools or programs. These procedures:
a. May require applicants to:
1. Respond to acceptance offers in less than two weeks.
2. Submit a statement of intent, a deposit, or both.
b. Should recognize the problems of applicants with multiple acceptance offers, applicants who have not yet received an acceptance offer, and applicants who have not yet been informed about financial aid opportunities at schools to which they have been accepted.

c. Should permit accepted applicants to remain on other schools' or programs' waiting lists and to withdraw if they later receive an acceptance offer from a preferred school or program.

Hope that helps!

And I'm definitely hoping you get in to your other school!!!😉

Awesome. Very helpful info. Thank you very much tomh98 and refugiofrey.

🙂 i hope u get in regardless of whether i get the other school or not!

I know most of the active participants on this thread are on the waitlist (and hopefully this will apply to you soon! :xf:), but for those who have been accepted already and may be lurking, please join the facebook group! It's really quiet right now, so I think the 30 or so of us that have joined are wondering where the rest of the class of 2015 is! Here's the link:

It would be great to get some conversation going, since we'll be spending a good bit of the next four years together 😀

I got the OMCA email regarding the second look. It will be on 4/8 and 4/9. I will be there! And to those on the waitlist, I really want to give you my spot. 🙂

I don't use Facebook. 🙂

Anyone get this yet?

I can't wait to obsessively check the progress, not unlike a March madness game. I'm mid/lower 30's so it looks like that "50%" chance gets drawn out for me till the end of May. Hopefully not the end of August. The ulcer thats developing would get way too large...Its my nightmare for them to accept one less than my number.

As a fellow Tacoma-ite (Tacoman? That looks like taco-man, not tacoma-n...haha), I'll keep my fingers crossed for you TacTown!! 🙂

Is it just me, or is Alaska the best WWAMI state?

Yeah, if you like darkness and grizzly bears! I definitely want to get up there though, looks beautiful. Would love to climb Denali some day.

So for the alternate listers it looks like the online status is up, pretty cool. Kinda takes the legwork out of tracking the process. WA is already at #2 🙂 My number is in the mid-twenties by the way, hope we get that far and more!

Then again Washington isn't bad.

Idaho is fine in my books.

And most of Wyoming is pretty cool too.

Oooh the online app status site is now another reason to love UW even more! <3

Although that might make this thread a little more quiet since we won't be asking "what number are we at?" every day 😉

We'll just have to keep debating which WWAMI state is best!

Here's a few more arguments for Washington:

Hey All - I'm having a doozy :scared:of a time making a decision and while I know this is an OPINION questions I would appreciate bouncing around more ideas in my head....

I am #6 :xf: on the UW WA alternate list. I have an interview Monday at Univ of Miami. It will cost me $750 in travel alone, but is it worth it to have another option available? or am I just being overly cautious? I would go to Miami if I didn't get UW, but I also feel like that $ could go toward something more important at UW (rent, health ins, books, etc). I am already accepted at 2 schools elsewhere 🙄 and waitlisted 4 other places....

any opinions?😕

Does anyone know if the numbers of students accepted off of the alternate list for previous years--e.g. 41 for last year-- includes the alternates from all five lists, or only those from the Washington/OOR list? I'm in the twenties as well, which I thought gave me a great number, but I hadn't realized that there are five different alternate lists, one for each state. Any ideas out there?

thanks!

I wouldn't go. Use that money for a vacation to celebrate getting in to UW 😉 I think there's almost no chance you WOULDN'T get in. You are #6 on the list, and someone just posted that they've already accepted through #2. It isn't even May 15th yet, so there are likely several people with multiple acceptances that will drop their spot at UW when they are only allowed to hold one acceptance. Furthermore, the admissions FAQ says:

In the timing of the reapplication process: If you are on the alternate list, should you be reapplying in June?
If your rank number is greater than 30, then you should reapply.

Which I interpret to mean that they anticipate accepting at least 30 students off of the alternate list (the FAQ says they accept an average of 35). You're at the top of that pile, and only need 4 more people to drop before you get in. Two people in this thread have already said they are considering/hoping to go elsewhere, and since the people who post on here are a small portion of the class to begin with, I'd say there's a lot more people in a similar position who will eventually drop. In short, everything seems to be pointing to you getting in! So pocket that $750, and enjoy these next couple months! 🙂

Apparently due to the way they hold spots for MSTP candidates, about the first dozen waitlist spots are sure things. I wouldn't go to Miami if it's lower on your list.

Hey caligurlMD,

I'd skip the Miami interview. At this stage in the game, the odds are that you are interviewing for a spot on the waitlist there.

Congrats on being #6!

That is WA/OOR only. I called right now to ask since it said #1 from WA and #4 from Wyoming, I wasn't sure if that meant the list was at #5 or each state seperate. Each state has it's own list, and the 41 was clarified specifically WA/OOR!! YAY!

^^Or go to Miami as your celebratory vacation for getting into UW 😉

About the washington argument. Western Washington is cool but eastern is lame. I grew up in eastern and i have to say I kind of hate being back at times.
