doubt it...on my interview day, they DID mention that they might not be able to call everyone...or at least that they don't call everyone before your acceptance package comes to you. And I don't think they call everyone on the first day. There may be some calls going out today as well.

How long prior to the decision release date do you think we needed to interview in order to receive a decision? I only interviewed 9/27, think I'll be hearing in this group?

Depends on the school I think...

some schools get back to you as quickly as one week. Others might take up to 2 months. And some are non-rolling so it would take even longer than that

Wow. I hope they are calling today. Now I'm gonna freak out until I hear something.

I called some number and the lady seemed to now know much about anything. She said letters were being sent today but I asked her if Dean Zic was making phone calls this year/had already done so and she said she didn't know.

Anyone else try?

Interviewed Friday...met a lot of great people (interviewees, staff, and students) and am now going to proceed to panic for the next 6-8 weeks (hopefully shorter) until I hear back. Love this school! If anyone has any questions about the interview day, etc. that haven't already been addressed on here just let me know.

I honestly wouldn't worry about being wait listed too much, from what I have heard Vanderbilt tends to waitlist a lot of people near the beginning so they can have a better sense of what the applicant pool looks like.

I was there too! I can only imagine we're one of the only interview groups to discuss alligator wrestling.... 😉

I hope we hear back sooner than 6 weeks. Sounds like one of the people accepted above heard back in a month. It's going to be a loooong month.

So is the general consensus that if we didn't get a call last night that we are waitlisted?

Rejected. (pre-secondary) 32M / 3.6 sGPA.
Application received email: Sept 21.
Snail mail rejection: Postmarked Oct 12.

Haha...yes, I think we likely had a uniquely odd conversation. That's what eight hours of sitting together will do to ya

I hope we here back sooner too. Even a month is too long for my nerves. I'll be checking this site like a madwoman and promise to update accordingly. Good luck (although, if I am correct in remembering which interviewee you were, you don't seem to need any luck to get in at all 🙂).

Yay! It was nice meeting you both, although I guess I missed the alligator talk 😉

i'm an m1 at vandy and i interviewed in early september last year. i was so disappointed when i didn't get the call the week of oct 15th but i ended up getting called in early nov so don't automatically assume you're WL at this point. good luck!

freeace

thats what i needed to hear
what did your letter say that you got the week? the office says they are printing out and sending letters now.

were you on the waitlist but very soon taken off?

is it safe to assume that once on the waitlist.. merit scholarship doesn't happen?

Nice to meet you too and thanks for the tour! I was actually wondering if you were "ButImLETired" during the interview 😀. Also, thanks for taking time in general to input on SDN...the information helps settle my nerves and is super helpful.

This is killing me. I keep telling myself that there's no way they would call EVERYONE. I'm hoping I get a letter even if I don't get a call. Uggghhhh :scared:😡😕

me too dude. not only would this waitlist put me at 0/3 in acceptances, but i have justified every other one because vandy was by far my favorite school out of all 7 schools i have inteviewed at already. granted, this and my two other waitlist schools are all great so its nothing i should be too upset over, but it is hurting my confidence 🙁

0/3?

try 0/6 hahaha - I'm on hold/deferred for every school I heard back from...this really sucks...

FYI - my applicant menu/portal now has the option to accept the offer and authorize a background check. I'm not sure when the acceptances go out or when it updates online, but you could try checking that if you haven't heard anything. Good luck to all! :luck:

Nothing for me...oh well...Thanks for the heads up though.

damn dude.. any idea whats wrong? i have no idea.

Haha well my sGPA is around 3.72 and cGPA is 3.75...my MCAT is 36R

Those are pretty low for the schools I've been hoping to hear back from, especially at this stage in the cycle. Many of the schools I've been deferred at have sent out fewer than 30 acceptances each so I'm guessing that those early spots will end up going to people with incredible numbers AND incredible activities. I'm below the average for interviewees and definitely acceptees on both counts--MCAT and GPA--at schools like Vanderbilt (at this point in the cycle). Some of my friends who've gotten in have like upwards of 38 and 3.9.

I've been hoping that the fact I'm disadvantaged/URM will give me that extra boost, but so far no go...I supposed I shouldn't be too bummed out since I wasn't rejected at a single place. Being placed on hold/deferred/continued list should satisfy me enough for now.....but still having no acceptances yet is really a downer...

i really was expecting to get in here.

my interviewer is known to give out very good reviews (dr. lefkowitz) and during my interview, he said things like "when you come here..." many times 🙁

Dude. It's October 19.

yeah i know im being super dramatic lol
i definitely need to relax a bit, its still wayyy early. im going to try being done with making pity-me posts haha. my bad

its just way easier to get rid of my worries on an anonymous internet forum than in real life, where all of my family and friends expect me to get a full scholarship to harvard

What makes you think you haven't gotten in here?

Just scheduled my interview for Dec 9 (first available)... Also, I was invited to tour the diversity office. Does everyone get that? I am a minority, but not an URM.

I am leaning towards no since it seems like not many ppl are getting accepted yet, but I was looking for a more definitive answer. Also, I was invited to tour the diversity office. Not many people are accepted yet because letters where just mailed out yesterday.

My interviewer said "when you come here" many times as well. I wouldn't really read too much into it. Remember, Vanderbilt did not even read your secondary before you interviewed; there is still that to take into consideration.

Also, you might have gotten in...they might not have called everyone. on our interview day, they only said they'll be mailing our for sure. Phone calls may or may not go out.

I checked the mail just now. No letter for me today. Anyone else?

To all those who are worried about not having heard back, several postings above are correct. It's WAY early. I have several friends who interviewed really really early and didn't hear until late October or November.

In my experience so far, acceptance phone calls have been going out on weekends and in the evening.

I have to imagine that the Dean of a medical school has actual work to do most days during business hours and that he/she isn't just sitting there making phone calls to accepted students.

Breathe easy, and the letters/calls will come. Just because you didn't get one of the first 20 phone calls doesn't mean anything. There are hundreds of spots left. Stay positive.

Anyone hear anything today? I wonder if we will get waitlist/rejection letters if we aren't accepted.

I got my acceptance letter today, but I am local. I assume any other letters would arrive tomorrow/Thursday...

Well congrats! I hope to be in you shoes tomorrow or the next day. Sorry if I missed it, but did u receive a call?

I am new here but have been following many of the threads for a while.

I received the magical phone call from the dean Sunday night. My congrats to those who also received good news.

Crossing my fingers that they didn't call everyone that is getting accepted. This waiting is really driving me insane right now. Any letters in the mail today? I haven't checked mine yet.

So this is how crazy applying to medical school is making me...I am at work, and a little (1) pops up on my gmail tab signaling a new email. I open the tab and the email is from "vums.interview"...my palms start to sweat, my heart rate immediately shoots up, and I start to feel sick. Then I realize that I interviewed 5 days ago (like I'd have a response already...right) and that the email was a survey about our experience. I still feel sick. I'm losing my mind. 🙄 Here's to being a pre-medder. Cheers.

Has anyone who interviewed in late September heard back? Or only early to mid month people? To be honest, at this point I'm just fishing for anything optimistic.

Also, just wasted an hour at work on www.twoscoopsgethuge.com , for the life of me I can't tell if these guys are serious or not, but it made me laugh nonetheless, maybe someone else can appreciate it.

I interviewed 9/27, and no news yet. I think I have a few weeks until I get a decision, but I am hopeful it will be sooner!

Got a letter in the mail today, seemed to be a very nicely worded waitlist letter. Said something along the lines of "we could not offer you an immediate invitation at this time, we will be reconsidering your application throughout the admissions season." I don't think anyone should be too worried at this point, I don't think that many people got offers on the first meeting. I'm hoping to hear back in the coming months :xf:

I have a split-second freak-out whenever I see the (1) pop up 😛 It's usually something lame and unexciting like Border's Rewards or REI or Facebook. Grrrrr.

Glad to know I'm not the only one 🙂
