I got a call on Sunday evening (10/17) with news that I was accepted. Still haven't received anything in the mail yet, though.

Congratulations!!
Do you mind to share your status? Thanks a lot!

Got a letter in the mail today, seemed to be a very nicely worded waitlist letter. Said something along the lines of "we could not offer you an immediate invitation at this time, we will be reconsidering your application throughout the admissions season." I don't think anyone should be too worried at this point, I don't think that many people got offers on the first meeting. I'm hoping to hear back in the coming months :xf:

reassuring to see some optimism I got the same letter and it didn't put me in the best of moods... I wonder if they actually reconsider or if its just a waitlist letter with nicer words...

has anyone received an interview invite lately?? Please put the date of your complete email

For those of you who have received decisions, does anyone know what the most recent interview date that has heard back is?

Interview/secondary invite today! Submitted 9/28!

Thanks! Added Vandy to AMCAS on 9/26 got the App Received email 9/28.

For any current students, how long is your day in class? Like, when does the day start and end, and how is lab incorporated into your week?

1st or 2nd years might give a better answer, but when I was in class it was typically 8-12ish lecture. Afternoon might have some kind of lab a couple days a week, or a physical diagnosis class/CELA lab, or journal club, etc. You are also expected to use some of the afternoons for Emphasis, though I didn't typically need to. I'd say around 2-3 afternoon were freeish on average. Anatomy is a little more full because there's so much lab. Studying is also often done in the lab too, so you'll probably be there a lot. Hope that helps.

is it better to have interviewed than not interviewed at all?

What's the waitlist like here? Do they review your applicaiton every time they send out a new batch of acceptances? Or do they throw it in the back and look at it if they have extra spots left in March? Also how frequently do batches go out?

For you guys that interviewed at Vanderbilt, do they have any policy against thank you notes, or is it acceptable to send one to our interviewer?

Does Vanderbilt send out these separately?

Nope. You get a letter in the mail saying you got an interview and have the opportunity to submit a secondary. But in order to schedule the interview, you have to submit the application first. Then they give you a link, user name and password to access your portal.

Good luck

I was wondering the same thing. They didn't mention it at the interview. Any ideas other interviewees??

I'm really confused. The admissions office said that students get a letter whether they are accepted, wait-listed, or rejected. If they sent out letters last Monday, why don't I have anything yet? I interviewed august 20! I tired of waiting.

For anybody sitting on or about to complete a secondary, I just submitted mine and scheduled my interview. The next available date was Nov. 29. After that was Dec. 3 and there seemed to be a fair amount of openings after that.

Same bro. In this case I think no news is good news - means we're still in the running.

OMG...just got the call from Dean Zic an hour ago! Interviewed on 9/27. Loved Vandy 🙂

Dean Zic called me around 7:40!! First acceptance!

congrats cole

still nothing for me though 🙁

i felt so confident about this one. my interviewer kept saying things like "when you come here, you can take advantage of this opportunity, etc." he also followed up with me and sent me a few references he had mentioned.

he is also an interviewer known to give out pretty good reviews.

i guess i havent received a letter or anything yet, but still

Nothing for me this round, either. Congrats to everyone that has acceptances, though! It seems like they are meeting every week, then? Ugh Vandy please just show me some love. :xf:

I'm totally with you on this one. Vandy is my top choice and I felt like I nailed the interview and was feeling really confident and excited. My interviewer, as we walked back to the waiting room, was telling me to tell my parents that I did a really great job in the interview etc.

I'm hoping (I still haven't received a letter yet) that I am not still out of the running. I told myself throughout this entire process not to get too attached to any one school because I know it's a numbers game, so many people apply and it just isn't possible for every school to offer acceptances to everyone (no matter how qualified we are). I'm just mad at myself because I went and fell in love with Vandy and had to go and get my hopes up.

Congrats to everyone accepted, you rock! For those of us still waiting, i'm keeping my fingers crossed for you :xf:

Ohiochick, you took the words right out of my mouth. Good luck to you.

Sounds like you had Dr. Lefkowitz. . !

i did lol. did you? how was your experience with him?

I did. We had a good time; I too got lots of recommendations about various things. I mostly listened to him. The interview was upwards of two hours!! It's a shame he's not on the AdCom. . . but hopefully he put in a good word for the both of us! Good luck!

Got the call from Dr.Zic monday at 8:00pm! Interviewed there October 5th and happy that this process is all over because I loved Vanderbilt and don't need to go to any other interviews now

Hey ladies and gents, I'm applying to Vandy's MSTP next summer and have some questions for those of you getting interviews and acceptances:

(1) Has anyone that submitted a primary pending MCAT scores ended-up receiving a secondary before the scores came back or before even sitting for the test? (As doubtful as it is, I have hope.)

(2) Can someone that's been through the MSTP gauntlet please share some experiences?

I have to take my orgos in June & July of next year and am debating whether to take the MCAT at the end of May (i.e., learn orgo via video lectures & study ≥8hrs/day in May) or at the end of July/August.

Thanks for your help, good luck, and congrats to those of you that’ve been accepted!

Clint, thanks for clearing that up for me.

"At Vanderbilt, you must declare through the degree you select for which program you intend to apply (MD or MSTP); you may not apply to both programs simultaneously."

Ok, so if I put my application in and potentially interview for MSTP does that mean I'm not eligible for the MD program then, if I get rejected from MSTP? Don't most, if not all, medical schools put you in the MD pool if you have applied for MSTP and got rejected for MSTP? I'm not well versed on this, just curious.

This will be my last question on here, sorry.

Good luck to all being interviewed for this great medical school!

You sure can! You just have to send an e-mail if you're rejected. This is actually the only school where I plan to apply to both programs. All the rest on my list are pure MD/PhD. Here's a quote from Vandy's MSTP FAQ page:

VUMS said:
Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I be considered for both the MSTP and MD only program?
Yes, but not at the same time. The programs have independent admissions committees, and applicants can be evaluated by only one committee at a time. If a student is offered admission to the MD program, he or she may request the MSTP at that time. Alternatively, if a student is not granted admission to the MSTP, he or she may request an application to the MD only program considered by the School of Medicine Admissions Committee prior to December 15th.

Here's the logistics: If you're rejected/waitlisted for the MSTP, you simply need to e-mail Dr. Pat Sagen (D of A) to let her know that you'd like to apply to the MD program. Likewise, you can apply to the straight MD program and request MSTP review once you're admitted.

When I interviewed (October 1st) one of the staff members in the admissions office casually recommended that I write a letter to the Director of Admissions. She told me this after I mentioned how much I had enjoyed my time at the school that day.

I ended up writing a letter to Dr. Sagen (D of A) and to my interviewer (Dr. Churchwell).

If it helps, here was my timeline w.r.t Vanderbilt:

  • Secondary Submitted: 21-Aug
  • Interview: 1-Oct
  • Acceptace (phone call): 26-Oct

Good luck everyone!

Emailed Dr. Sagen asking about my status and she sent me an email copy of my waitlist letter. 🙁🙁🙁 I really, really, really want to go to Vandy. I am hoping that the rumors of Vandy only accepting a few people right off the bat and then the waitlist moving pretty quickly are true. This really is my top choice. Totally devastated.
