haha nice doc. when were you complete? basically it just means you have a chance of being interviewed. it's like being pooled. it's not good and it's not bad.

So, I have an interview here in two weeks and VCU is one of my top choices so i'm quite nervous about it Are there any specific questions I should prep for? Should I make sure I can answer the q's on the interview feedback or is that overkill? Also, any other tips/advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

I was asked about healthcare so have something prepared for that ("What do you think of Obamacare? What would you change?"). Otherwise, the interview was really laid back. My interviewer kept relating things I'd say to his family then telling me stories about his family. In fact, he probably talked more than me (this was not my choice clearly). Hopefully, that's a good thing...

I used the SDN feedback to prepare and I thought it was more than enough.

I interview November 11th in the morning. Staying with a student host. Who else is on that day? I'm OOS and their tuition is scary but whatever, would still love to go!

Yeah the admissions office doesn't validate but if you ask someone in the Gateway building (which is the main entrance which you have to walk through to get from the garage to Sanger) they'll validate anyone not in scrubs/wearing a school ID.

"The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date. We anticipate making offers October 16, December 15, February 1, and March 16.

You will receive no further communication from us concerning your hold status. The next status change will be to offer you a position in the class, to notify you that you have been placed on the alternate list in late-March, or to notify you that the Committee will no longer be considering your file.

We thank you for your interest in our school. "


my question is, does this mean my file has been presented to the adcom meeting for the 10/16 acceptance date, but they have not come up with a final decision and my file is now postpone to the next available date 12/15?

someone please clarify...i am confused..

yes it has been presented to the adcom, but they have put you in the 'hold pile' rumor has it how VCU works is that each file is reviewed and given a priority score. first acceptance round 10/16 everyone that has greater than a certain priority score is offered admission, then as the year progresses the 'cutoff #' changes and thus more admissions offered. also as people accept/decline VCU's admission offer they will send out more acceptances. the good thing about interviewing earlier is that the adcom people are more generous w/their points (for your priority score).

*disclaimer: these are just the things that I have heard from others, I have no first hand knowledge of how it 'really' works SO take this for what you will.

I think you interviewed too close to the Oct. 16th date for them to have a final decision on you. But they have met and discussed you, so you might possibly hear of a decision on Dec. 15th. The message you received is not good or bad, it only tells you that you have been reviewed. Best of luck, and also, this is just my interpretation going on last year's thread.

I interviewed 10/13 and got the same status as alphasyn and they told us we'd hear on Dec 15th as we wouldnt make the Oct 16th wave.

for me, yes.

got my vcu and albany on the first of oct and sept respectively.

got a couple rejections on the 1st as well.

but my UA interview was some random date and day (thursday?).

Hmmm....after reading this entire thread, that does seem a little strange. I've been complete for one month without any status change. Maybe they've just been busy with the post-interviewers lately.

I couldn't see it hurting you. I'm sure they have in your file that you were wait-listed last year, so it wouldn't be a surprise. To me, you coming back even after not getting in last year shows that you're persistent and that you really do love the school.

Great application but terrible MCAT ~26 due to a tragedy occurring a few weeks before my MCAT

Publications, 3.6 GPA, tons of research and shadowing and even a little community service


I just got the "maybe" interview status yesterday. I am OOS, as of rite now this is the only school showing me some love. Should I send them a letter of intent ?

I am an M1 at VCU and did not even get an interview the first year I applied. I received an interview invite and an acceptance the next year.

There were 3 other schools where I was interviewed and waitlisted that I applied to the following year and in each application I referenced the positive experiences I had had on my interviews. I also mentioned any other tidbits I had picked up that made me want to attend there institution even more that I already had. I received interviews at all 3 in that second year.

Does VCU's currently-implemented curriculum follow block scheduling, or is that going to be a part of the new curriculum? Also, does anyone know when the new curriculum is supposed to be set in motion?

Yes, they currently use blocks.

The new building is scheduled to be complete in the spring of 2013 (according to a 12/09 press release). However, the new curriculum page cites the target start date as 2012.

As an aside, this information can all be found on the VCU website with a quick search.

We begin the interview process in early September. Once a committee member has completed the final review and you are offered an interview, please schedule the interview through the online directions...."

Does it mean anything or do they send this out to basically everyone who gets a secondary? Been complete since September - no news since them other than a complete email!

I got the same email. I think everyone who gets a secondary gets it.

Ditto on the MAY status (early Oct or so), not a word since then; granted it's probably my own fault since I did submit here a bit later than other schools (OOS doesn't help either). Stats, for what they're worth:

36P
3.8 BCPM
3.5 overall (bio + engineering double major = GPA killer, esp the CS classes)

Has anyone had an experience with a post interview rejection? Can they be sent out at any time, or do we wait until December 15?

I got the message that says the Admissions Committee has discussed my file and there will be no more correspondence until Dec. 15. Good, bad or neutral news?

Mailman, going by last year's threads, I think a status change is a good thing because it means they didn't outright reject you. I'm still hoping for an interview. Do you mind telling me when you interviewed? Or if you don't want to announce it, will you pm me?
