Please indicate your activities for the 2011-2012 year. If you are in school, please list your courses. If you are working, please describe your job, including duties and responsibilities. (5000 character max)

How do your personal characteristics coincide with the values and mission of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University? Provide some examples of achievements in any aspect of your life - personal or professional - which make you a "good fit" for Brown. (6500 character max)

Best of luck with your application :luck::luck::luck:!

I LOVE this school. The unique topics in the scholarly concentrations program really intrigue me and what everyone says about the student population makes me feel like I'd really fit in there. Anyone else out there??

I'm with you. I really love how everyone at Brown is super laid back and friendly. Plus I've heard it's super liberal so I know I won't have a problem fitting in. If I score high enough on my MCAT I will add it to my list of schools. :xf:🙂

WHOO! I'm pumped for this school. Definately liking the independent study modules...go academic med!

Has anyone received a secondary and mind posting the prompt? Thanks

When they ask us to indicate our activities, do they mean not only our courses but also any extracurriculars we plan to participate in? "Indicating activities" seems to say list everything, but they go on to specify that we should list courses. I'm just not sure how to interpret the question, I guess.

I think this question is more to differentiate candiates based on working/ not working. I put my job description with none of the other things I plan on doing. If I do them, and they turn out well, I will send an update letter. If not, no harm no foul. I'd hate to be asked an interview question about something I said I was going to do then didn't. Good luck. :luck:

so whats the final verdict? if we're in school, do we simply indicate our courses?

Has anyone already received the status page login information?

When the secondary asks us to list courses for their requirements, e.g. two Biology courses, should we list general courses/lower division or upper division courses? I'm not too clear what they're looking for.

So Brown makes you buy an Ipad 2 upon matriculation. Haha.

You might want to try calling them but I would assume its just the generic lower div biology classes you had to take to fulfill your premed requirements. At least that's what I'm putting down.

I would really suggest putting your upper level courses instead. Remember the upper levels also fulfill the requirements. Why not give them an extra "letting you know I took some pretty advanced courses despite the more basic requirement"?

On a different not...does anyone know if it is ok to submit at this point? The initial email said that we will "soon" be invited to complete the secondary, but in the mean time they gave us a link to get it started.

No update really since then though...

I called yesterday but there was only an option to leave a message, so I sent them an email. I'll update when I hear back.

Update: They said either lower division or upper division is fine, as long as the requirement is met.

How long is everybody's answer to the secondary questions? Mine is at about 4000 characters right now... 6500 characters seems like a lot!

I'm not completely sure how to answer the second essay question. Anyone have any advice?

I'm having trouble interpreting this question as well. Are we supposed to take it as a "why do you want to go to Brown?"

I'm reading it more as "how have your ECs influenced you as a person and how will you transfer that over to medical school".

Has anyone heard anything more from the admissions office regarding what they want for question #1 if you are a current student?

Do they only allow 3 letters of rec, or can we submit more? Probably going to call them tomorrow before submitting unless someone here knows the answer

Have other people still not gotten a secondary invite?

I was verified 07/05 which was only a week ago so maybe I just being too nervous about this one.

Just so you all know, because of the new med building, Brown's class size is expanding (this is good news for you guys).

Last year, it increased from 96 to 108. This year it will increase further to 120 (the final target class size). These increases are for standard admits. My class of 108 has approximately 35 PLME students, 10ish post bac/linkage students, and the remainder are all standard admits.

I was confirmed on the 22nd of June and received the secondary on the 29th. I think it takes them some time.

I called them about this yesterday and we can send in more than 3.

Wow, only 4000 characters to address all of that? I'm actually in trouble from the other end--need to pare down mine from 8100.

A novel indeed

I might have to rethink systematically addressing all of their values. And I try to write my essays through a lens of humility, but at the same time you have to be confident in your self-assessment.

hm, yeah i agree with your mindset of approach. 👍

submitted today! glad to be done with that essay.
crossing my fingers

just submitted. has anyone received a complete email or anything from them? they said it would take 2-3 weeks just to process. not sure what that means.

I submitted my secondary to them 29 June and got my complete emails and password to check my status yesterday.

Just submitted! I didn't bother to fill the character limit. I think I got my point through with less than the limit...hopefully they think so too =]

I'm really liking Brown's secondary essay -- just one, pretty high character limit (so don't have to think of what to include and what not), and I can talk about pretty much anything. 3K characters down, probably going to write another 1.5K. Hopefully they'll show me more love than the undergraduate admissions committee 😛

Just want to make sure, Brown-Alpert is non-rolling, right?

For people who've submitted and have a status-checker:
Has anyone been waiting a very long time for Brown to indicate that your letters have arrived? It's been like 3 weeks since my letters were uploaded and Brown still hasn't marked that they've received them.

What is our username/password for the status checking website? For some reason I can't figure it out.

They should've sent it to you in an e-mail, if they processed your secondary already. They may not have gotten to it yet. My username is my first name's first initial, followed by my last name. So, for John Smith, it's "jsmith." My password was something that I set on my own though when I activated the status check page. Look through your email and see if any links are in there about it.

The last email I got from them said this "Once your account is activated, you may check your application status online at our website. http://bms.brown.edu/admissions/applicant.html"

I never got an email saying my account was activated.

I submitted ~12 days ago.

Yeah, that's not the account activation email. That one will have the subject line:
"Alpert Medical School Online Account Info"

I'm the least patient person in the world when it comes to this stuff, so it kills me to say it, but just be patient. It should come in the next week or two if they're not too backed up. It took them about 3 weeks from the day I submitted the secondary until the day I activated my status checker.

Ah, okay. I figured I'd have to wait a bit longer. Thanks for responding.

Brown received my AMCAS 18 June, my MCAT 20 June, my secondary 30 June, and my letters were marked received 8 July. My letters were complete with AMCAS on June 1st, and Brown was marked when I submitted. I guess it just takes them a little while.
