My husband and I both applied to Brown in this cycle. I was invited to interview this past fall but I withdrew in late November because we were told that he was not going to receive an interview invitation. Yesterday he received a rejection email, which surprised us as we knew the decision was actually made two months earlier. I hope that this does not mean that there is a two-month delay between admissions decisions and notice to the applicant, that would be a bummer.

Hey huesos-
Although I'm still waiting to hear back from other schools, I really liked Brown and Brown is currently my top choice.

just received the rejection email 🙁

thankfully, i have other great choices. good luck to everyone still waiting!

Real nervous about hearing back tomorrow... I want to come here so bad, but it seems like Brown's had to waitlist a lot of people.

First years have our first brain sciences exam tomorrow so it's a big day all around. Best of luck to everyone who hears back tomorrow!

Rejected pre-interview

:luck: to those waiting to hear back

Willbetujing- I am also waiting to hear back from a few places that might change things but I LOVED Brown and it is definitely where I see myself going right now. August feels so far away...

Good luck to those waiting to hear back!!

Same here! I loved visiting Brown and it's is absolutely one of my top choices.

Good luck to everyone hearing back tomorrow 😀

Rejected... with a 31 MCAT. Ah well, no regrets here.

Good luck to everyone else! 🙂

Rejected this morning, pre-interview. Oh well...

Good luck to those still waiting to hear.

Anyone have any idea when the next round of decisions will be released?

Any idea on how many of those 55 standard admit spots are unfilled at this point?

No idea to be honest. They tend to space out the acceptances but it really depends on the quality of the applicants and this year has been fiercely competitive from what I hear. I'd imagine there are spots still open but if you get wait-listed, keep up the interest and wait for the May 15th shuffle to arrive.

is there a facebook group for the class of 2016?

(accepted from my post-bacc program!)

I ended up emailing it to Barbara and she sent a nice reply back. So it should be fine.

I got a nice response as well:

"I will be on vacation until Wednesday, February 29, and unable to
answer your email. Please contact Filomena Zani or Melissa Whiteley if
you need immediate assistance."

haha

Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back tomorrow! To the waitlisted candidates, I'll keep my fingers crossed that your status changes tomorrow too but keep up the faith regardless! To those of you who've been accepted, be sure to show up to second look; we have a fun day planned out for you all!

When is second look? Has an email been sent out about this yet? I haven't received anything.

I believe it's April 27th. We actually have a meeting today to help rearrange the schedule since some new events have been added. You should get an official invitation soon but keep the day open!

is it a single day event?

Yes it is but you might want to get in touch about staying overnight with a student host because we will be hosting what will likely be an unofficial soirée/party/shindig in the evening after the talent show and depending on your affinity for the gift of Bacchus, it might be in your best interest to stay in town, get some rest, and head off in the morning. The day is entirely about you fine folks though so people are welcome to come and go for whatever events they want.

Correction: It is a two day affair. The 30th has events throughout as well!

Sorry. I was writing that while in the middle of the meeting and accidentally grabbed the date from the schedule for last year.

The dates should be Friday the 27th of April and of course Saturday the 28th.

I'm set on Brown and will definitely be at second look. any idea if the student host program applies to second look as well, or was that just for interviews? If not, any cheap hotels in the area you would suggest. I spent my life savings on applications...

VERY excited about second look and making Providence my home for the next 4+ years.

Awesome! Glad to hear your psyched and Providence is fantastic. I'll spare you my spiel for now but I've been exploring the city lately and I already loved it but it deffinately has some hidden depths I've been getting to appreciate lately. I think I've already made my thoughts on the school pretty clear : )

There will be students hosts for second look. They're going to survey the classes for hosts just in case people who hosted for interviews want to take a break. I'm betting though that everyone who hosted before will do so again and now that we're all settled in, there's a good chance even more people will be able to host. I know at least that my roommates and I are planning on hosting again.

First year here. If anyone needs a place to stay for second look hit me up.

Also, feel free to send any questions about anything my way (including wait-listers! I too was one of you).

Oh, and for anyone looking for housing, do not live in Federal Hill

Anything west of I-95. College Hill is good. Wayland square if you can afford it. If you can, visit apartments in person and ask neighbors how they like it.

Also, I'd highly recommend living with other med students if you can work it out. It's so much easier to understand eachothers' schedules that way.

Do you mean east of I-95?

is there anothe decision day coming up? how much waitlist movement can we expect? Can waitlisters go to second look or would that be awkward 😛 ? And is a second letter of interest off-putting lol?

I think it'd be awkward for waitlisters to come to second look.

Hi everyone,

I received my official acceptance letter yesterday and was surprised that it doesn't mention a deposit being required. Is that correct? Is that standard for most private schools? In any case, looking forward to second look and excited about Brown.

Don't worry it's not a trick! From my experience it's hit or miss with which schools require a deposit (and my public was kind enough to refund me after I withdrew my acceptance) but if memory serves, Brown doesn't expect one until I believe after the May 15th single decision deadline. It's a nice touch not to have to fork over another $100 to hold your spot, especially considering the massive expenses incurred during the app process.

Wonderful. Thanks for the quick response.

I understand that the Office of Admissions gives out merit-based scholarships while the Financial Aid Office deals strictly with need-based aid.

Are merit-based scholarships sent out with our admission letters or do we find out about them (if at all) when we get our financial aid packages in April?
