Secondary submitted 🙂 So, due to my unique situation, the closest city I would be commuting from if I attend FAU would be Ft. Lauderdale (let's assume I beat the odds and get accepted, of course)... anyone know if tri-rail/bus shuttle to FAU Campus would be a good idea vs. driving from Ft. Lauderdale? I figured it might be good to commute on tri-rail b/c I could study, read, etc rather than sit and be mad in traffic lol Then again I'm all about saving time, so if it would take me 2 hrs public transit vs. 1 hour by car, that's a big deal. I'm just curious.....

If you actually were to go to FAU you will need a car. We have preceptorship once a week with a physician whose office is anywhere from south Fort Lauderdale up to north West Palm and out to Weston. The administration tries to make accommodations, but it will certainly be problematic. We also start class at 8 am sharp every day so all in all, it would probably make life more difficult than you think.

Edit: Traffic goes toward Miami in the morning. You are unlikely to hit much traffic on 95, particularly since you'd be driving up around 7 am.

does anyone know how FAU deals with OOS applicants? I saw someone got a secondary OOS, but I wonder how many if any actually get acceptance OOS since they have no data on the MSAR. I have strong ties to south Florida despite being a resident in NC (majority of my family lives there and I spent most of most of my childhood summers working in Arcadia as a farm hand) so Ill probably apply regardless... Im just curious I guess!

Here's some info from FAU:

"Approximately 10 students, however, may be admitted from states other than Florida if they have outstanding academic records, life experiences, and accomplishments that the admissions committee might find highly desirable in meeting our educational goal."

cool, thank you! That is helpful. I must have missed that on their admissions website when I looked it over before.

Application did not save my essays even though it said it had. It was the one secondary I didn't do on word too. Make sure you write out your answers on word if you aren't doing that already. I'm pretty pissed I have to rewrite everything.

Thanks for that info! 🙂 Thankfully, I have a car. I just wanted to make the most of my time and perhaps get reading/studying done on the commute if it were possible vs. driving... I have a one year old (will be two while I'm in med school), so efficiency with my time and multi-tasking is key! lol

4 out of the 64 this year have kids. The oldest is 4 and the youngest is ~12 weeks. More power to you (and them) for going for it with little ones at home.

just checked my status and it says 'preliminary review started' on 8/9. today is 8/23.. are they still reviewing my application or am i on hold or what???

submitted 8/18, and status now at preliminary review completed, 8/23.

Has anyone else had trouble selecting the AMCAS fee waiver on the app? I can't submit yet because it won't let me choose 🙁.

I applied for FAU last year to be part of the charter class and was interviewed/waitlisted. The questions are the exact same as the secondary last year. Would it be awful if I copied over some of the same questions? Because a lot of things, like my leadership experience, haven't changed. I just figure that I made it to the interview last year, as long as I update my answers slightly I should be able to make it that far again...right? :scared:

All you can do is update your experiences, I would think, and express how much you love FAU. I would focus on new things you've done since the last application cycle. I wish you the best of luck.

I agree with Cinclus. I am finishing undergrad at FAU. I love this school. New Bio Med building is impressive

Thanks for the input, basically what I was thinking, so that's good to know.

Yeah, when I interviewed at FAU last year I fell in love. The facilities are amazing and they have so many resources dedicated to their students. Med students have private workspaces, reserved parking, and they each get a laptop. Plus the small class size is a bonus, and the simulation lab is awesome. I'm just hoping I'm applying early enough to get in this year!

Same here... preliminary review started 8/12 for me... any updates?

they actually DID accept a bunch of OOS.... out of our class of 64, I think 11 of us are OOS.... however be warned, OOS tuition is very high (around $55-60K a year)

For successful submission of the secondary, does it matter which Internet browser (i.e., Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox) we use? If so, which one is recommended?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I used Mozilla and everything turned out okay. I don't think the Internet browser matters for this secondary. Typically, if that's the case, the secondary will include the recommended one in the instructions. :luck:

My status just changed to "Preliminary Review Completed." Not sure what that means...

My status just changed to "Preliminary Review Completed." Not sure what that means...

I submitted my app on 8/3, and am still in "preliminary review started" stage 🙁

The admissions representative shared that no files will be officially reviewed by the admissions committee till Sept 7. Since other students' statuses have changed to "review complete" before that date, I unfortunately also have no idea what the status update means. Hopefully, it means something good.

Maybe the "preliminary review" is just a matter of checking to see that applicants' files are complete? I'm not sure.

I contacted the admissions coordinator, and she said my file is complete. She could not answer why some students, who submitted their secondary later than me, have a complete status and I don't.

I am keeping my hopes up high and trying not to be annoying to the admissions staff (who are understandably busy), though obviously I would like to reap the benefits of an early application by being one of the first reviewed by the committee.

Sigh.

According to the admissions website, interviews start in October, so invites should be coming out soon... I hope!

invite! complete mid july...first available was november 1, looks like most tuesdays and thursdays.

for those who got interviews, how long did it take between "preliminary review completed" and your interview invite?

Call Dr. Hinkley if your file review is not complete and it has been a while (I would say three weeks is enough for an applicant's status to go from preliminary review started to preliminary review complete). Make sure you call Dr. Hinkley on his direct phone line because others on the admissions staff are not as well informed, and kept telling me my file was complete when in fact it was not because of a glitch in the system. :luck:

I went to Preliminary Review Started on 8/8. You think it's worth a buzz?

It took a month for mine to go from prelim review started (8/12) to prelim review complete (9/13).

I would definitely recommend doing it. One month is more than enough for an app to go through the preliminary review stage, and there's no point in taking a risk. His direct phone line is 561-297-3694. :luck:

Interview Invite! IS -- I'd been complete since 9/13. The first available dates are not until 12/1.

Anyone complete on or after 9/16 get an invite yet?

Ill be interviewing November 15th

Lucky! I called trying to get this date, since I'm interviewing at UCF on 11/18 -- I was hoping to get a few interviews out of one trip (I'm currently in MD). The earliest date for me was 12/1 -- I'm on the waitlist in case anyone scheduled for 11/15 or 11/17 changes their date...

How long did it take for people to receive interview after being prelim complete?

A little over a month if you applied early

Sorry to repost, but anyone complete on or after 9/16 get an interview invite yet?

I haven't gotten one yet. Got one for FIU today so I was kind of hoping to do everything at once (I applied to U MIami as well) but its' looking like my Nov 14th date there is too soon compared to FAU's openings.

Anyway, here's hoping for some news soon!

Would those invited for interviews mind posting stats? Don't feel obligated. I'm just curious.

Does anyone know what is the next status after "Preliminary Review Complete"? Mine says this since end of August.
Thanks
