Did Dartmouth have a second look recently? How was it?

... Anything else you can share? For ex- number of prospects or how many people were unsure about attending ?

Sorry, I don't know anything about that. I just got the emails about some of the events for the prospective students but didn't go to any of them.

Does anyone know how many people are on the Dartmouth wait list?

I don't think any of us know unfortunately and I'm guessing that the number of wait-listed individuals will decrease come May 15 when people are forced to make decisions! In past threads, from years before they said something like 100 people were wait-listed... I would think less than that but I think it's really difficult to say for sure!

If anyone has called or has any updated information that would be great 🙂

A 100? That would be nice if the number were that low. From this year's thread, it seems like not many people were straight out rejected after the interviews. I think I saw only 1 person that kindly shared the bad news after the interview with us. And I believe Dartmouth gives out around 650 to 700 interviews. Assuming that maybe a 100 were rejected straight out (which is a conservative number because I think they didn't reject that many people after the interview this year), and assuming that about a 100 were accepted (because I hear Dartmouth is conservative with their initial acceptances right? And I read from another post that Dartmouth does not initially accept more than their incoming class size) Which means around 450 to 500 people are on the wait list currently. Please correct me if any of this is wrong, but at least that is the number I have in my head at the moment. (which is an entirely subjective surmise based on vague hypotheses. Disclaimer: None of these assertions were confirmed by the admissions office)

Someone should call to find out if the tiny number of rejections we have seen is reflective of a different policy this year, or if there really are ~100 after waitlist declining this year and ALL of them are on this forum.

Anything beyond 100 seems a bit absurd and cruel for Geisel. The "alternate list" at Indiana University is 100 deep and they accept roughly half from that list. Their class size is also 300+.

Just withdrew from Geisel. I hope one of you can get my spot! At the visiting days, many people were unsure. I would say of the people I met, 1/3 to 2/5 of the people were unsure about where they were going. I think that Geisel ends up accepting many people off the waitlist mostly because of the location. Their match list is pretty insane, and the school community was really phenomenal. Good luck to the rest of you.

Thank you so much for the update! Congrats on your other acceptances!

i was there as well 🙂 just out of curiosity, why did you decide to withdraw then? location?

I just got off the waitlist at somewhere I really wanted to go.
I really liked everything about Geisel, so I was having a really tough time deciding (I love the Hanover area as well). To talk about some of the things I really loved about Geisel when I visited it:

1) Other prospective students were really down-to-earth. They were the kind of people I wanted to be classmates with.
2) Small class size. The intimacy that you will feel at Geisel is really priceless. I think the location also helps students grow closer to each other.
3) Tuck school of business. If you are interested in MD/MBA, I would go here. During the visiting days, people emphasized how Tuck ppl and Geisel ppl know each other and try to work closely with each other.
4) The dynamics between the students and the professors. Apparently some professors know all the students' names!

Before I got off the waitlist, I think my biggest concern was that I would pretty much be inaccessible to my parents or to my boyfriend if I went to Geisel. It was really tough to think about what I really wanted when I knew what my parents and my boyfriend clearly wanted.

I guess it's really weird that I've listed some of my thoughts about Geisel here, but hopefully it can help others who are having a hard time making a final decision 🙂

Pirung congrats on WashU! Hopefully I will be able to hear some positive news here and at WashU soon.

Just thought I'd say... 36 hour countdown to wait-list movement 😉 good luck everyone!!

No news on my end yet! My fingers are crossed. I am actually really curious when Andy will first call people

Just withdraw from my waitlist. Dartmouth is a fantastic school. I truly loved the environment (the green space and little pollution!) The faculty-student relationship is also top-notch.

However, due to personal health reasons, I have decided to stay somewhere closer to home to monitor my health while I am in medical school. I wish all of you, both the accepted students and the waitlistees, the very best in your future studies and practice of medicine.

That's too bad medhopeful I hope you will be ok and thank you for the encouragement! Is there anyone else waiting that didn't get in another school? Im on the Dartmouth waitlist but I didn't get in anywhere else but I don't know how unique of a position that is. I also live and work here...

I think they are holdin off on calling since Canadian acceptances went out may 15 instea of may 7 this year so a couple people will withdraw before they review everyone again 🙂 fingers crossed!!

In all fairness, the wait list email did say "late May".

Still n=4.

My guess is the middle of next week at the earliest.

I feel like in previous year's waitlist movement happened almost immediately following May 15th... does anyone know any stats of how many people may have declined their offer/approx. how many of us remain waitlisted?

The options i see are:

1. the class is full.
2. they've extended a few offers and we haven't heard of them
3. they haven't been able to meet yet/took a few days to get canadian responses in.

The facebook group has 106 members, of whom 35 are upperclassmen, so 71. But likely some people just haven't left the group and others haven't joined.

One comforting fact: not all waitlist movement is under-enrollment, some people will leave due to more attractive waitlist movement. Anyone want to call? 🙂

I called a few days ago and asked about the waitlist size and possibility of waitlist movement, but didn't think to ask when it might begin. Andy Welch said that in his 20 years as the director of admissions, there's only been one year where they had no waitlist movement. No info on the size of the list--sorry! Good luck everyone! I'm crossing my fingers along with you.

Like somebody said above, the wait list email did say late May at the earliest. They must have said that for a reason. I think they are just re-reviewing everyone on the wait list. I'm guessing the wait list movement is going to happen some time this week. Brace for impact everyone! I'm on the wait list too and this is my first choice school, but I wish everyone else good luck! I'm sure everyone on this thread is more than qualified to become a wonderful doctor.

It sounds like Accalia did and was rebuffed. Is this true?

Yup. He said that he doesn't keep a number because it changes frequently as people withdraw throughout the season. I didn't press for more information. I suppose someone else could call and ask for a general idea of how long the list is.

First round of Canadian acceptances are may29 so maybe they are holding off!! I did see a couple people on premed101 debating between Dartmouth and a Canadian school, hopefully we start hearing soon

I am not really expecting to get off the wait list...but this waiting is kinda torturous!

Does anyone have a link for the dartmouth class of 2016 Facebook group? I can't find it when I search for it, I can only find prior classes'.

First round of Canadian acceptances went out on May 15th instead of May 7th this year.
