They didn't reply to any emails I sent them about the issues addressed earlier in this thread, among others. You answered your own question....if you want fast feedback, call.

Just called, they told me to email...

I'll update later with the news... ugh.:scared:

Frustrating. Sorry 🙁

Incredibly. I'm praying that it was a simple computer error due to my MCAT not being reported yet... Maybe they will be able to overturn this. Doubtful and Hopeful at the same time.

Thanks for listening y'all.+pissed+

BTW for anyone who is interested in stuff from this school:

If you are a URM i think you get sent an additional email from them tell you to apply quick. Nothing important but they are really pushing for minorities it seems

Best of luck everyone

Another strange aspect of my dilemma. I had called and inquired about EDP, and they only thing holding me back was a late MCAT test date (7/6). I was told that I was a really strong applicant, and I applied URM, due to being part of the 2.6% of folks with parental income <10k.

I am really thinking that it's an auto-screen error. :xf:

No, I didn't, but when I called in late march, early april, and they admissions lady said it would be a good idea, but I was taking the MCAT too late for them to make a decision by October...

Verified on 7/29, and still no secondary...
Anyone else in the same boat?

Not sure if this helps but it took me 2 weeks to get my secondary. Hopefully you will get it in the next few days

It took me like 2-3 weeks. So chillsssssss. It'll make you feel better 🙂

For everyone else who has submitted the secondary, if you have received the complete email, how long was it from when you submitted secondary

3 days for me

Took me about the same. Submitted 8/3, complete 8/5

I must say, I am BEYOND happy that there is no status page for this application. I've found myself checking my status with other schools compulsively, even if Im not complete there yet.:beat:

i submitted 4 business day ago, still no complete email =/

Hey everyone,

I was interested in applying to EVMS, but decided not to last minute (low, but manageable MCAT score). I'm an URM and registered for MedMAR and I was recently e-mailed by EVMS's minority affairs "encouraging" me to apply. I'm tempted to because I was interested in the school, but hesitant because according to MSAR (I have the older one from last year), they accept nearly no Hispanic students. I don't really understand why their minority affairs office would encourage me to apply when they don't seem to accept many Hispanic students in the first place. Any advice/ideas? Do they have access to my MCAT score because of MedMAR?

Thanks!

I got the same email as you and applied. Not many hispanic's applied and not many had that greta of an app. If you have their numbers or a little higher and some great ec's go for it

I'm below average when it comes to their MCAT average 🙁 But my EC's and letters are amazing and GPA is good. Maybe I'll call tomorrow and talk to someone in the minority affairs office.

i'm yet another quarter system student... 🙁 boo on us.

i have a question that i just want answered once and for all. the evms secondary says we should enter our classes twice. but someone here posted on sdn that the admissions people said to only post the first two quarters for semester 1 and 2. does that mean we should disregard posting everything twice?

ALSO... how specific did you guys get about when the course was completed?! i'm going to cry if i have to dig through old academic calendars to find out when each quarter ended. =\

I copied the semester end dates from my transcript, but I doubt it's that essential to be extremely specific.

So if you use the ask a question link on the completed secondary page of EVMS they are really quick to get back to you(about a day or so).

Also they say they accept updates from summer stuff. So lets say you finished a REU or extensive shadowing, or forgot to list something on AMCAS, they'll let you update.

Interviews will start Wednesday September 7th, and last year they started invites on Aug 18. So you all should start hearing something very soon.

Just got a rejection E-mail pre-secondary. Weird thing is I have a 3.7 GPA and 34 MCAT. There is no way I was screened out because of my stats and my EC's are fairly strong. I am a Canadian applicant, do you think that could be why?

Maybe. They might not accept internationals .

Yeah, I read on MSAR that they don't accept international students...sorry!

Did you guys take a year long lab course for all your prerequisites? I thought a semester lab was all that was required (a year long lab isn't even offered at my school).

Their screening really makes no sense to me. According to MSAR, their stats range (10-90% is as follows): science gpa ranges from 3.06-3.91, cum gpa 3.26-3.92 (about). MCAT from 28-32. Students HAVE BEEN accepted with these stats in the past. More importantly, about 10% of their accepted students had even lower stats than what I quoted above.

Doe anyone have a possible explanation or are they just picking and choosing from all over the place?

There's no such thing as a year long lab course. There are lab courses such as Lab for Orgo 1 and Lab for Orgo 2, each lab is a semester long. There is a lab for every prerequisite lecture. Did you not take a coinciding lab for every semester of orgo, chem, bio, and physics?

No, my school's lab course is only 1 semester, and covers a year's worth of material. It is completely independent from the lecture. Maybe I should just put the same course for both semesters?

Yeah I think you should do that and maybe indicate somewhere that it covers a year's worth of material. Call them to make sure, I called them earlier for a secondary question and they very friendly. Here is the number I called 757-446-5812

Thanks Don15.

Also note to all: I was screened in with a 29 MCAT OOS.

Someone actually addressed this earlier in this thread, like the first or second page. My school does Ochem the same way, we just have 1 semester of lab but it is worth 2 credits and is 8 hours a week, covering a full year's worth of Ochem (must be taken after or concurrently with 2nd semester lecture). This isn't all that an uncommon way to do this lab. I put the same course for both semesters, I think it will be clear when they look at the transcript. But I suppose it wouldn't hurt you to try calling.

O well. EVMS's website says that Canadian's aren't considered internationals but it seems like the rules are different in reality. I'll send off an E-mail anyways. Congrats to all of you who are in the running still. This is a crazy and stressful process.

I've met a student at EVMS that was Canadian

Beginning with the 2012 entering class only U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. will be considered for admission. Applicants who are enrolled or are planning to enroll in a degree-seeking graduate program must fulfill the degree requirements for that program prior to matriculating at EVMS.

^That is why, i bet.

Lol, yeah that's what they said to my E-mail. They must have forgoten to update their website. The same thing happened to me with Temple actually.

Has anyone else been rejected post-secondary? It's kinda off-putting how I was the only one on this thread it seems...they also included a little plug for their SMP in the rejection email. Nice.

I'm waiting on the primary to be verified, but I really appreciate you posting your status (good or bad). Sometime it seems like only the good news gets posted on SDN which can be quite unnerving :scared:

did all you guys use 2000 characters for each question?? my response about what i like least about being a physician is only 500 characters

It definitely varied for me as well... my responses were between 900-2000 characters per question. As long as you answer it thoroughly. There is no point in "fluffing" your answers to make them longer.

I got the "complete" e-mail on Friday... is there a place to check your status, or is it just a waiting game until they e-mail again?
