Anyone know where they are in interview offers? I heard they go through by MCAT score.
So start at 45 and go down.... anyone know what number they're on now? (I only got a 32R
🙁(( )

I think Loyola really does take a holistic approach on apps because my friend and I both have lower than a 32 MCAT score and were accepted. I would call on Thursday and see where your application is. Good luck! :luck:

lol i hope they don't do that. Mine is a 33, and I haven't heard yet.

This is definitely not the case - I just recently got the interview call and I had a 37 on my MCAT (but relatively low GPA). Therefore if not holistic, they will at least take both GPA and MCAT into account before sending out interviews, but not just one or the other (i.e. don't fret if you don't have a 40+!!).

my status changed to this:

"Your file has been reviewed by the Committee on Admissions. The review process is continuous from now until the conclusion of our interview season in mid-April. If you are granted an interview, you will be contacted by phone and/or e-mail. "

I guess this is not a death sentence...

Yeah, I don't think that is how they do it. I mean if you have a 45T and have never seen a sick person in your life I don't think you would be more competitive than someone who has clearly shown a passion for medicine and a low MCAT. Just because you have a high GPA and MCAT does not mean you will be a good doctor. From my experience, Stritch understands that and selects it's students based on this understanding.

When were you complete?

My friend got a 30 and did their summer research program and interviewed in September and got in. He's the one who told me about this approach, because the admissions person TOLD him that! haha

So they review based on MCAT and GPA- I'm sure.

My friend just got an interview offer and she has a 33.

I've been complete since early/mid September I think. I have a bunch of friends who've interviewed/been accepted but they mostly have 34/35s.

Haha I'm entering anxiety mode. I've only interviewed at SLU, and have an upcoming one at Indiana once they send me the date (I got the secondary which means interview there etc so I'm going to call and see if they got my secondary materials) but I have rejections from BU, Georgetown, Wisconsin Madison, UChicago, and got Vanderbilt today. I literalllllly am just like "WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?!" haha I have a 3.85 c&s, 32R, 1 semester of research, 7months clinical work experience as a CNA, 1 full year of chem TAing (on my 3rd semester now) with excellent rankings, volunteering, service trips, study abroad, leadership experience, extracurriculars.... BLEGH.

I'm pretty much in the exact same situation as you, GraMaire...same-ish scores/grades/ec's. I've only had one interview (got waitlisted, and not in a good spot...👎). I don't understand what more these schools want from me!!!!

We've done everything we can. Now we just wait WOOHOO! lovez it. 😎

Where'd you interview at?

BLEGHHHHHHHHHHHH none of my non-pre-med friends understands either

So is the consensus that they do review applicants and offer interview invites in order of MCAT score??

😕😕😕

Eastern Virginia. none of mine get it either haha. SO STRESSED OUT. sdn doesn't help...

I would say NO to this. MCAT is obviously important, but I highly doubt they extend interviews based on MCAT's alone. I am a 32 and was interviewed on September 18th and accepted November 1st. There's a lot more that goes into it. (Of course, I have a 4.0 which helps).

Remember that Loyola grants 49% of its acceptances to Illinois residents. It's not a state school, but has a commitment to Illinois students. This might have something to do with the long wait.

Also remember that Loyola is a Jesuit institution; they probably have a very strong weight on extracurricular activities and community service and a focus on community. I think this would play a large part in the interview granting process.

And stay calm. They are reviewing about 6000 completed apps. A very large majority probably have around a 3.7 and a 31-32. Ask yourself, what separates YOUR application from the rest? As the process proceeds I'm sure you'll receive some good news from them.

Best of luck!

Anyone complete back in August or September still have the following status message right now? "Your file is complete and pending further review by our Committee on Admissions. If you are granted an interview you will be contacted by phone and/or email. Our interview season is September thru April and your file can be reviewed several times during this time."

What's the general opinion on in the area emails to Loyola? I looked through the thread and didn't see anything about this.

Complete in September and I still have the same message.

Been complete since end of august and still have this status. I figure either its a re-review status or they have just forgotten about my app. Its most likely that they haven't reviewed our files yet for some reason given the regular re-review status people have been receiving.

I sent one. Still haven't heard back. They were receptive to it tho.

Since early Sept mine has said: "We have received all required information and your file is under review with the Committee on Admissions."

Mine says the same thing.

What do the two different things mean?

Are they tryingggg to make us go insane? haha

They can't be starting from highest MCAt score and down if you're friend interviewed with a 30 in Sept and mine was lower than a 32. I think there is some kind of method to the madness and I'm sure that you will get an interview bc your app seems great! I was completed at Loyola and SLU in early Sept but didn't get an interview at SLU yet. I know waitig sucks but I'm sure you'll get an invite!

Complete since mid-August with a 35 MCAT and a cGPA> 3.7 and a sGPA> 3.9 with over a year of experience working in a hospital among many other things, and I still have this status. So, I have no idea what they go on. I am an IL resident as well. 😛

complete since end of august... also still have this status as well....

guess im in good company!

About the MCAT prioritizing debate: I think the answer to this is most definitely "no", they do not extend invites based solely on MCAT scores. In fact, from what I know, Loyola has always had a reputation of being a school that takes a holistic approach on admissions. I of course am not an adcom myself, but having been accepted with an average MCAT score, I feel strong that my opinion is accurate.

100% Agree. 👍

Also agree with this statement completely. Loyola is a school that definitely looks at the 'whole package' (aren't all Jesuit schools like this?).

Hey you guys I have a question,
I'm doing research with a doctor at the medical center (@ Loyola) right now and I wasn't sure if I should ask him to add the additional recommendation letter now, or later on. I'm under the initial review right now but do you guys think it would be better if he gave a letter later on if they put me under re-review? Which one seems to be more effective?

How well does the doc know you right now? I would be prone to ask him for the letter asap because the later in the interview season it takes for a decision to be made, the worse off the chances are for admission.

I agree. Generally speaking, the sooner documents get in in this process, the better off you are. If you feel comfortable in having him recommend you at this stage, ask for it asap.

thanks guys, yea I will ask soon..I soo want to come here next year!

got on the 2012 alternate candidate list 🙁 for loyloa som 11/19/2011

The wait list doesn't have to be a death sentence to your Loyola dreams. It does move and I have people in my class that were accepted all the way up to the week before orientation in July (and in the past the first day of orientation). So, if you are still interested in Loyola, don't lose hope yet!

Does anyone know if Loyola accepts pre-interview update letters? I just got the hold status that I have been reviewed, the process is continuous, etc. Thanks! 🙂

Yes, they do accept pre-interview update letters. I've heard they like a lot of communication/contact, so send one in! They'll take email or snail mail.

My friend was one of those people. From what I know, Loyola's waitlist does indeed have movement. Hope is not lost.

Just email admission after 3 months of silence:

Fatty, your file can be reviewed several times throughout the year up until the end of April. If you are granted an interview, you will be contacted by phone and/or email.

Anybody knows if Loyola does pre interview rejection? or reject everybody at the end? Read a few pages back but didn't see anybody rejected preinterview.

Only complete for 2 weeks.

I know it seems a bit ridiculous to ask if it is too early to send a letter on why I want to attend Loyola, but does anyone think this would be beneficial since it is so late in the cycle?

Is it weird to send an in the area e-mail if you are on hold? I've never sent one of these before so I don't know about the proper etiquette.

When you email update/interest letters, do you send them to the admission email? (ie. ssom-admissions@lumc(dot)edu)

I would definitely do this if I were you. I remember during my interview the dean of admissions (Adrian) was talking and said something along the line of "If you get placed on hold don't be afraid to send a letter telling us you're committed to the school. Those are nice to get. Of course, don't be a stalker, but just be professional and let us know you really do want to be here" or something like that. Granted, you're not on hold or anything, but I doubt it could hurt.

Also, he seemed to make it known that he thought letters meant more than e-mails. So I'd say write a letter 🙂

Go for it. They definitely seemed very receptive to that kind of thing.

Loyola loves letters of interest/update. If you show interest, it shows that you really want to hear from Loyola and Loyola is definitely one of those schools that when you show them love they are more likely to show you some. Several friends in my class were granted interviews after emailing or calling admissions.

anyone interview here for the joint program? I received a very 'terse' phone invitation for the joint interview last week, and was just curious as this program is a bit more opaque in regards to the joint-program interview process...

I was complete at the end of August, and I'm still under initial review (Status: We have received all required information and your file is under review with the Committee on Admissions. ). No re-review status. Is anyone else in the same situation?

Also, have they done pre-interview rejections?

I am in the exact same situation. However, I was not complete until November 27th. My status reads complete and under review with the committee on admissions. Hopefully we will here something soon!
